‘Clubs won't expect it' – Luke Littler gives his prediction for Man Utd's season
United are keen for the recently-crowned World Matchplay champion to visit Old Trafford to show off his latest trophy success. RED DEVILS REVIVAL 'Clubs won't expect it' – Luke Littler gives his prediction for Man Utd's season LUKE LITTLER is 'excited' about Manchester United's prospects this year – and reckons 'most clubs' will be surprised by their revival under boss Ruben Amorim. United embarrassingly finished 15th in last season's Premier League, losing 18 league matches as morale hit rock bottom. It was their worst campaign since they were relegated from the top flight in 1974 and Portuguese chief Amorim, 40, is under pressure to deliver this term. It has not been easy being a fan of the club and Littler, one of their most high-profile supporters, had to put up with a lot of abuse, especially on social media, from those from rival teams. Yet performances in the recent Summer Series in the US have given him cause for great optimism. Advertisement READ MORE ON MAN UTD DONNA-RUMOUR Watch Ruben Amorim's reaction when asked if Man Utd are signing Donnarumma And the United hierarchy have backed their man, splashing the cash this summer by signing Matheus Cunha (£62.5million), Diego Leon (£7million), Bryan Mbeumo (£65million) and Benjamin Sesko (£74million). Striker Sesko, 22, has arrived from RB Leipzig and is an exciting young talent who could take the Prem by storm and perhaps solve their scoring issues. Littler, 18, said: 'I'm very excited. I think we are underdogs. 'Obviously from last season, I don't think anything worse can happen – unless we finish 16th. Advertisement 'But yeah, I think it is going to be a very interesting season. Most clubs won't expect it but I'm expecting top five.' Manchester United are keen for fellow Treble winner Littler to return to Old Trafford and show off his latest major darts trophy. 6 Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo has arrived at Old Trafford as part of a mega-money summer recruitment spend Credit: Getty 6 Brazilian star Matheus Cunha is set to make his United senior debut against Arsenal next weekend Credit: Getty Advertisement Waiting for the match to start? 📺 Keep up the live action with bet365 live casino! 👇 Last month, the Warrington teenager completed the Triple Crown when he beat James Wade 18-13 to lift the Betfred World Matchplay. Within the space of just 15 months, he has won the sport's three biggest events – the Premier League Darts, the World Championship and the Matchplay. It is going to be a very interesting season. Most clubs won't expect it but I'm expecting top five. Luke Littler on Manchester United's new Premier League campaign Following his latest triumph, secured at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, club insiders would welcome him doing the same again with this pot of silverware. Though Littler was not even born when United completed the historic Treble in 1999, they see the similarities with his latest achievement. 6 Luke Littler showed off the Sid Waddell Trophy at Old Trafford in January 2025 Credit: Getty Advertisement 6 Ruben Amorim will be determined to avoid a repeat of last year's terrible Premier League campaign Credit: Getty No official conversation has been had yet between the two parties but Littler has close links to the management. SunSport understands they are open to talks and say he is always welcome given his love and loyalty towards United. On his first VIP visit in January 2024, he met up with legendary boss Alex Ferguson and posed for photos. Tommy Conlon: Time for a revolution in order to halt the alarming decline of Irish Premier League stars
Dark days have returned in the fortunes of Irish players Truly, you are safe nowhere. You can journey as far away from Ireland as it's possible to go on this planet and still, for better or worse, bump into a few of your fellow country men and women. Indeed, this viewer was only recently watching a BBC documentary on the scientists marooned at a research station on the vast icy wastes of Antarctica. And sure enough, a couple of Micks turned up there too, fixing engines and the like.

Former World Snooker champion Luca Brecel pulls out of Saudi Arabia Masters for ‘medical reasons'
LUCA BRECEL will not have another competitive snooker match for at least five weeks after he withdrew from the Saudi Arabia Masters. The former Belgian world champion pulled out of the £2.3million event in Jeddah citing 'medical reasons'. 3 Luca Brecel lifted the world title in 2023 but fell to the Crucible curse the year later Credit: Getty 3 The Belgian is one of the most talented snooker stars but has not played since April 30 Credit: Alamy The 30-year-old had been due to meet Sanderson Lam, 31, in round three on Sunday evening in the Kingdom but the Englishman has now received a bye into the fourth round. The top 16 players, such as Ronnie O'Sullivan and Judd Trump, will enter the competition in round five on Tuesday. It is believed Brecel will not be fined or punished for skipping the ranking tournament, particularly if he provides acceptable evidence to justify his medical situation. The last time Brecel was involved in competition was back at the Crucible when he lost 13-8 to world No1 Judd Trump in the quarter-finals of the World Championship in Sheffield.
