Malaysia Hosts Largest Ever Higher Education Fair In Indonesia
JAKARTA, July 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is holding the largest-ever higher education fair in Indonesia, aiming to attract more Indonesian students and boost regional academic cooperation under its 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship.
The Mega Ayo Kuliah di Malaysia 2025 fair organised by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) is taking place in Central Jakarta from July 12 to 13 and in Bekasi, West Java on July 15.

The fair features 21 Malaysian universities and showcases the country's close geographical proximity, affordable tuition fees, and globally recognised institutions.
The fair is expected to attract some 2,000 visitors. Prospective students have the opportunity to get advice and conditional offer letters.
Established in 2012, EMGS operates under Malaysia's Higher Education Ministry to promote the country as a global education hub.
A total of seven Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between Malaysian and Indonesian universities, including Universiti Utara Malaysia with Universitas Airlangga, Asia e University with Universitas Hasanuddin, and Lincoln University College with Universitas Borneo Lestari.
'Malaysia continues to strengthen regional academic mobility through initiatives such as the Graduate Pass, which offers a one-year post-study visa for graduates from 32 countries, including Indonesia,' said Higher Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Anesee Ibrahim at the fair.
He also highlighted the ASEAN Global Exchange Mobility and Scholarship (ASEAN GEMS) platform, which connects students with over 300 scholarship providers across ASEAN, offering total commitments of more than RM19 million.

Ringgit strengthens broadly on cautious trade sentiment
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened marginally higher against the US dollar in early trade on Monday amid cautious sentiment, as traders awaited clarity on a possible extension of the trade truce between the United States (US) and China, said an analyst. At 8 am, the local note stood at 4.2110/2310 versus the greenback, compared with Friday's close of 4.2195/2245. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said that earlier, the US and the European Union (EU) had agreed to a 15 per cent tariff on most EU imports, while most US imports would face zero tariff under the deal. He said markets are also closely watching the upcoming US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting scheduled for July 29 and 30, with consensus expecting no change to the Federal Funds Rate, currently at 4.25 per cent to 4.50 per cent. "Based on recent developments, most countries appear accommodative in offering favourable terms to the US. It remains to be seen whether this will effectively narrow the trade balance in the near term. "However, the cost of doing business in the US is likely to rise, and it also appears the US may be relying on a weaker dollar to boost export competitiveness. "Against this backdrop, we expect the ringgit to remain within a narrow range of RM4.22 to RM4.23 versus the US dollar,' Mohd Afzanizam told Bernama. At opening here, the ringgit traded mostly higher against a basket of major currencies. It rose against the Japanese yen to 2.8499/2863 from 2.8529/8565 at Friday's close, and strengthened versus the British pound to 5.6600/6869 from 5.6786/6853. However, it eased slightly against the euro to 4.9521/9757 from 4.9507/9566. Against regional peers, the ringgit was also firmer. It advanced against the Indonesian rupiah to 258.0/259.3 from 258.5/258.9 on Friday, and gained versus the Singapore dollar at 3.2878/3039 from 3.2937/2978. The local note also strengthened against the Thai baht to 12.9809/13.0546 from 13.0268/0478, and edged up against the Philippine peso to 7.37/7.41 from 7.38/7.40 previously. - Bernama

Dewan Rakyat to debate SST in construction, foreign-run businesses
KUALA LUMPUR: The government's efforts to ensure ongoing construction projects remain unaffected by the Sales and Services Tax (SST), along with the policy allowing foreign nationals to operate businesses in Malaysia, are among the key issues highlighted in today's Dewan Rakyat sitting. According to the Order Paper published on the official Parliament website, Yusuf Abd Wahab (GPS–Tanjong Manis) is set to question the Works Minister on the categories of construction projects exempted from the SST. He is also seeking clarification on the measures the ministry is taking to ensure that ongoing construction projects remain unaffected by the tax. Yusuf is further expected to ask whether the Madani government will consider introducing a grace period before fully implementing SST in the construction sector. Meanwhile, Mohd Hasnizan Harun (PN–Hulu Selangor) will raise a question to the Minister of Housing and Local Government regarding the current policy that allows foreign nationals to operate businesses in Malaysia, particularly in the retail sector. He is also requesting clarification on enforcement action taken against premises registered under Malaysian citizens' names — but which are fully operated by foreign nationals — including cases involving the use of a citizen wife's name to register the business. Also drawing attention today is a question on the abuse of stray animals, posed by Wong Chen (PH–Subang) to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security. Wong seeks to know whether the ministry intends to introduce a comprehensive national framework to address the abuse of stray animals. He is also asking whether the ministry will collaborate with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), local authorities, and animal welfare experts to implement an integrated and holistic approach. Following the Q&A session, the Dewan Rakyat is scheduled to proceed with the tabling of two bills for first reading: the Cross-Border Insolvency Bill 2025 and the Education (Amendment) Bill 2025. MOHE urges polytechnics to expand digital learning in TVET sector
SHAH ALAM: The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) has urged polytechnics and community colleges (POLYCC) to accelerate the adoption of digital technology in teaching and learning to strengthen Malaysia's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector. MOHE secretary-general Datuk Dr Anesee Ibrahim emphasised the need for higher learning institutions to move beyond traditional methods and integrate advanced tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR). 'For the first time this year, these technologies are being showcased in an exhibition format at the POLYCC eDOLA Digital Fair 2025, allowing visitors to experience the technology used in teaching and learning,' he said in a statement issued by the Polytechnic and Community College Education Department. Anesee officiated the closing of the two-day fair at Setia City Mall, which featured digital innovations including AI, AR, VR, flight simulators, robotics, and e-sports. The event also marked the launch of ILHAM@CeLT (Innovative Learning Hub for Advancing Method) by Politeknik METrO Kuala Lumpur, designed to develop future-focused digital teaching materials. Additionally, the fair hosted Malaysia's first POLYCC–AWS League of Large Language Model (LLM) Bootcamp, organised by Amazon Web Services (AWS), making POLYCC the first agency in the country to hold the programme.
