Taylor Swift reveals she screamed about Chiefs drafting Xavier Worthy after she became football 'obsessed'

Fox News3 days ago
Taylor Swift opened up about how she went from only being involved in sports strictly to further her music career to going wild when the Kansas City Chiefs selected Xavier Worthy in the draft.
Swift appeared on Travis and Jason Kelce's podcast, "New Heights," for the first time Wednesday night and, in between talking about their love story, the pop music icon talked about getting to know what professional football was all about.
She recalled asking Travis on their first date what it was like when he faced his brother in the 2023 Super Bowl but didn't realize they technically weren't on the field against one another at the same time.
"Jason, on our first date, I legitimately asked him what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl, and he looked across the field across the line of scrimmage and saw his brother standing on the other, like five feet in front of him on the field," she said.
"He didn't even look at me. Like, I now know what an insane question that was. … I thought everyone was on the field at the same time. I thought it was like Jared Goff is here, and Josh Allen is here, and they blow a whistle. And they go at each other, and they're like, 'Who's going to win?'" she added, describing how she thought quarterbacks squared off in a one-on-one matchup.
From there, Swift said she started to learn certain defensive schemes and went wild when the team drafted Worthy No. 32 overall in 2024.
"I didn't know what a first down was. I didn't know what the chains were. I didn't know what a tight end was. … Oh my God, I fell in love with it. I became obsessed with it. I became a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, 'We drafted Xavier Worthy!' My friends are like, 'Who body-snatched you? What do you mean we drafted Xavier Worthy?"
Even Travis expressed skepticism when she was going wild about Worthy when he didn't even know who the team had drafted.
"I was so excited. I couldn't believe it," she added.
Later in the show, Swift said her only interaction with spots was when she sang the national anthem at football games.
"My relationship with sports was like, you know, I grew up in Pennsylvania. I always heard my dad yelling at the screen watching Eagles games. That was always the sports sounds that I heard in my house," she said. "However, I was up in my room, playing guitar, learning instruments, playing piano. I was focused on different things. I was so laser-focused on music, and that's how it was in school.
"I would go to sporting events so I could sing the national anthem. Everything was a means to an end to get me to do music. I know every halftime show from the Super Bowls, but I didn't watch the sports."
Travis took credit for Swift being "engulfed" by football in an interview with GQ Magazine.
"I definitely became obsessed with sports when it came to him," she added. "I'm competitive on his behalf, but if you and me are gonna go against each other in something athletic, I'm gonna let you win because I don't see what the points even mean. I'm a fan of athletics and the sports. If I'm doing the sports, I'm throwing like this because I don't really care where it's supposed to go."

Eagles' Lane Johnson Shares Strong Thoughts on Jalen Hurts

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Since entering the national spotlight as the franchise quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles, Jalen Hurts might be undervalued by outside eyes. When it comes to the All-Pro offensive lineman Lane Johnson, he has plenty of positives to say about the quarterback he's been blocking for over the past five years. What is it about Hurts that caught Johnson's attention early on—and continues to later on in the young quarterback's career? "I think it's his demeanor," Johnson told Ryan Clark of 'The Pivot' podcast. "The city's very rambunctious, very passionate. I think you need a guy who's very even-keeled. Emotions don't ever get high, even when we're winning. We win a Super Bowl. We smiled a couple of times, but it was back to work. When you have a guy like that, when he first came in, you don't know if it's the role he's playing, but that's how he's always been. For me, it allows guys to stay calm in pressure moments. Seeing a guy never get rattled." Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks on against the Cleveland Browns during the NFL Preseason 2025 game at Lincoln Financial Field on August 16, 2025 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Cleveland Browns defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 22-13. MoreHurts' calm persona once left many wondering if his leadership was up to par for an NFL quarterback. Over time, it became clear that Hurts may just be one of the best motivators at the position. While he might struggle to be a critics favorite when it comes to the "elite quarterback" conversation, nobody can deny that Hurts isn't a winner. Many point to the loads of talent surrounding Hurts as a primary reason why he's successful. Lane Johnson wants the world to know that Hurts carries a great work ethic with him. "With Jalen, man, he's always working," Johnson added. "You go in there before practice, he's got his own routine. It's never wavered since he's been a rookie. It only kept developing. Now, as he's aging, he's becoming more personable with the guys on the team. But he's always been the same leader, same demeanor from day one. Just more evolved over the past couple of years. I respect how he works." Hurts has started 66 games in the NFL. Since earning starter reps in 2020 as a rookie, Hurts has achieved a record of 46-20 during the regular season. He's thrown for 14,667 yards, 85 touchdowns, and just 39 interceptions. On the ground, Hurts has rushed for 3,133 yards and 55 touchdowns. He's been to two Super Bowls and was recently crowned the MVP of Super Bowl LIX after the Eagles took down the Kansas City Chiefs. Johnson has played with a handful of quarterbacks throughout his career. At this point, Hurts is by far the most successful one. No. 1 might have a hard time winning over the critics, but it's clear that an eventual franchise legend for the Eagles sees the value in the two-time Pro Bowl passer. NFL Insider Provides New Update on Chiefs' Rashee Rice

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Kansas City Chiefs and their fans are still licking their wounds after the team's lopsided loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIV. That loss prevented it from becoming the first team to ever claim three straight Vince Lombardi Trophies. While some may be counting out the Chiefs for this season, Patrick Mahomes and crew are still expected to do a good amount of damage, if not return to the big game. The biggest concern for Kansas City right now appears to be wide receiver Rashee Rice's impending suspension. ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported a couple of days ago that Rice is expected to have his disciplinary hearing with the NFL on Sept. 30, which seems to indicate that Rice will be able to play in at least the first four games of the regular season. Read more: Chiefs Get Major Update on Rashee Rice's Looming Suspension According to another ESPN insider -- Tom Pelissero -- the league wants to suspend Rice for a long stretch of games. "The expectation is Rashee Rice is going to be suspended for a portion of the 2025 season," Pelissero reported. "The question now is how much? My understanding is the NFL initially proposed a lengthy suspension — double-digit games for Rashee Rice — the players union and Rice's attorney and agents argued for a much shorter suspension, in part, because there is no precedent for suspending someone for over half the season in a case like this." The NFL initially proposed a lengthy suspension that would sideline #Chiefs WR Rashee Rice for over half the season. And while a Sept. 30 hearing date has been set, it's still possible a settlement could be reached before the season. @NFLGameDay @nflnetwork — Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) August 15, 2025 In fact, Pelissero said that there isn't any real clarity on when Rice would serve his likely suspension, and that it could still come during the beginning of the schedule. "There is still a possibility the sides could come together and agree to a settlement on a suspension that would allow Rice to be suspended at the start of the season," Pelissero added. "If not, he would be eligible for at least those first (four) games, but given the fact that not only the decision-making process but potential appeals could extend that process into October or November, this is something then that could jeopardize his availability for the postseason." As a rookie in 2023, he caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns, and last year, he had 24 catches, 288 yards and two touchdowns before a knee injury prematurely ended his season. They have lacked a legitimate star wide receiver ever since trading Tyreek Hill, an eight-time Pro Bowler, in 2022. KANSAS CITY, MO - SEPTEMBER 15:Rashee Rice #4 of the Kansas City Chiefs catches a pass during the fourth quarter of an NFL football game against the Cincinnati Bengals at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on September 15, 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri. Rashee Rice sustains knee injury in Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. MoreBut Rice seems to be on his way to perhaps becoming one. Additionally, speedster wideout Xavier Worthy showed some promise as a rookie in 2024 with 742 total yards from scrimmage and nine touchdowns. Their tag-team duo of Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt at running back looks rock solid, as does their defense, which was fourth in points allowed last year. Any team with Mahomes on it can beat any other team, especially in high-leverage situations, and he could have as many weapons around him as he has had in a couple of years -- when Rice is available to play. Former Packers QB Throws Brutal Shade at Coaching Staff

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Green Bay Packers are fresh off of a 23-19 win over the Indianapolis Colts in their second preseason game of the year. While they won the game, it was also their seconds straight ugly preseason outing of the year. So far, there hasn't been a lot for Packers fans to cheer about. On both sides of the football, the team has looked sluggish. Granted, the starters have not seen much playing time. Matt LaFleur has not been known to play his first team very much in exhibition games. However, there is some reason for concern about how unengaged the team has looked. Head coach Matt LaFleur of the Green Bay Packers reacts during the second quarter of the game against the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field on September 29, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Read more: Packers QB Jordan Love Shares Significant Injury Update Kurt Benkert, who spent some time with the Packers and was a fan favorite, took to social media to share his sharp opinion about Green Bay. He has not liked what he has seen thus far during the team's two preseason games. "I don't care that it's preseason," Benkert wrote on X. "The product the Packers have put on the field looks disgusting. The games don't matter but have some pride in the performance at least a LITTLE bit." He continued on, shading the coaching staff for being "unprepared" even when he was on the team. "I dealt with this when I was there," he wrote. "We played against the Jets first team defense for an entire half and were completely unprepared for their nickel double mug package. It's frustrating when you're trying to put your best foot forward and you're not given a schematic chance." That is not a glowing opinion when it comes to head coach Matt LaFleur. Calling the team "unprepared" usually falls back on the head coach for not having his group ready to play. From a scheme perspective, that would also fall on LaFleur. Read more: Justin Jefferson Injury Update From Vikings' Coach Raises Questions It's possible that Benkert was not meaning his comments as a diss at LaFleur. Or, perhaps he was. Either way, the product that the Packers have put on the field over the course of two preseason games has not looked good. Hopefully, the team is able to get things firing on all cylinders by the time their Week 1 matchup with the Detroit Lions comes around. Only time will tell, but Benkert's comments certainly resonate for Green Bay fans. In a season that is expected to come with Super Bowl contention, at least seeing a team playing sharp football in the preseason would be nice.
