Police nabbed snatch theft suspect following viral video
GEORGE TOWN: Police have detained a man believed to be responsible for a snatch theft involving a 71-year-old female motorcyclist, following a viral video circulating on social media.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the incident occurred at 3.30pm yesterday along Jalan Tembaga, Taman Greenview, Jelutong, where the victim's gold chain was snatched by a male motorcyclist.
He said that both the victim and the suspect fell to the ground during the incident.
"The victim managed to defend herself, after which the suspect fled. The victim filed a police report at 4.30pm.
"At about 4am today, police detained a 29-year-old man near Jalan Lim Khoon Huat, George Town.
"Authorities seized the suspect's motorcycle and the clothing he was wearing at the time of the offence. Tests revealed he was positive for THC (cannabis) and benzodiazepines," he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years, and may also include a fine or whipping upon conviction.
Rozak said the suspect has been remanded for seven days, from today until June 2, for further investigation.
"We managed to solve the case within 24 hours after the report was filed," he added.

After the incident, the suspect was taken to the Kluang police headquarters' Narcotics Crime Investigation Division for a urine test. The suspect also has a criminal record. The case is being investigated under Section 44(1)(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for self-administering dangerous drugs.

Police detain Singaporean for road rage incident in Skudai
JOHOR BAHRU: Police arrested a 40-year-old Singaporean man after he was involved in a road rage incident and alleged vandalism against another car around Tun Aminah, Skudai yesterday. Johor Bahru Utara (North) police chief ACP Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh said after a 31-year-old local man lodged a report about the incident at 3.01 pm, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Johor Bahru Utara police headquarters (IPD) arrested the suspect at about 6.20 pm yesterday (June 8) and made several seizures. 'The complainant stated that while driving his BMW at 2.39pm in the Tun Aminah area, he was honked at by a Toyota Altis with a Singapore registration number, whose driver was dissatisfied because his path was blocked. An argument ensued and the suspect allegedly kicked the complainant's car, causing damage. However, the complainant did not suffer any injuries,' he said in a statement today. Balveer Singh said the suspect had no previous criminal record and tested negative for drugs. He said the suspect would be brought to the Johor Bahru Court tomorrow (June 9) for a remand application for the case to be investigated under Section 426 of the Penal Code (for mischief and damage of property) and Section 509 of the Penal Code (utterance of insult).
