National Drug Take Back Day held Saturday
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — National Drug Take Back Day was held Saturday across the country.
In Sioux City, folks could drop off your unused prescriptions at either Hy-Vee located on Gordon Drive or the Hy-Vee on Hamilton Boulevard between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
People could also drop them off at Drilling Pharmacy in Morningside.
'The purpose of the national drug take back is to ensure a safe way to recover unused prescription pills and have everybody turn those in and feel comfortable about where they are ending up,' said Sergeant Anthony Vondrak of the Sioux City Police Department. 'Not having concerns about them ending up in the wrong hands, specifically children getting access or young adults and misuse of those prescription pills.'
If people missed Saturday's event, you could always drop off any unused prescriptions at the Sioux City police Department in downtown Sioux City.

WATCH: Suspect shot at during pursuit in stolen vehicle, Dakota County Sheriff says
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — A pursuit suspect was shot at during a pursuit in a stolen vehicle Sunday afternoon. According to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, a pursuit ensued in Dakota County at around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday after the sheriff's office spotted a white Honda Accord in the area of Highway 35 and Highway 110. This vehicle had been spotted by a FLOCK camera and had been involved in a prior eluding incident. A Dakota County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, which turned into a pursuit that went through South Sioux City. Officials said that they had attempted to stop the vehicle using spike strips, but the attempt was unsuccessful. Later, spike strips were deployed on the Veteran's Memorial Bridge by the South Sioux City Police Department. After hitting the patrol vehicle, the suspect then drove toward a South Sioux City police officer, who fired a shot from their gun at the suspect vehicle. The suspect made their way into Iowa where they eventually crashed into three other vehicles while trying to wedge their way through a stoplight. In total, the pursuit lasted for about 15 minutes, officials said. The suspect in the pursuit was arrested and identified as Benjamin Horn, of Winnebago, Nebraska. Officials said that the vehicle had been identified as a car that had previously been stolen out of Winnebago two days prior to the incident. Horn is currently being held in the Woodbury County Jail on charges of reckless driving, not having a driver's license, improper use of lanes, and failure to provide security against liability. The release said that he also has a warrant in Nebraska for charges that including felony flight to avoid arrest, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, willfull reckless driving, driving under suspension, and sixty-six counts of traffic violations in connection with the pursuit on the Nebraska side. Omaha man denied new trial, sentenced for deadly rollover near Salix
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A man found guilty of vehicular homicide and operating a vehicle while intoxicated has been sentenced. The charges stemmed from an incident in February of 2023 when Ashley Bond was killed following a crash near Salix. Officials claimed the vehicle left the road on I-29 and rolled; Bond was ejected from the vehicle, hospitalized, and died. Cotton was found guilty in April of 2025. He requested a new trial because he claimed he was 'denied due process,' but the new trial motion was rejected. Sioux City pharmacist receives Bowl of Hygeia Award
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Bill Drilling has just received the Bowl of Hygeia Award for his commitment to community service. According to the press release, Bill Drilling was presented the award on June 5 at the Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA) award banquet in Des Moines. The award recognizes pharmacists across the country who demonstrate civic leadership and commitment to the well-being and overall health of their communities. For 40 years, Drilling has run Drilling Pharmacy in Sioux City with his brother Don. Drilling has launched Scrip Talk to help visually impaired people receive better care, as well as helping to administer over 10,000 Coronavirus vaccines.
