Belfast's DUP Lord Mayor says next year's Fleadh will have ‘a few twists'

Belfast's DUP Lord Mayor says next year's Fleadh will have ‘a few twists'

The celebration of traditional Irish music, song and dance took place in Wexford last week with a handover ceremony at the conclusion of the festival on Sunday.
Speaking on the TG4 broadcast, the DUP's Tracy Kelly acknowledged that Belfast will have 'big shoes to fill' in 2026.
'From what I have been over the last couple of days, Belfast has big shoes to fill,' the Lord Mayor said, as she was quizzed by musician and presenter, Doireann NíGhlacáin.
'[It's] absolutely fantastic what I have witnessed here today and last night, and we do have big shoes to fill, but we are looking forward to it.
'It is still in the planning stage. But yes, there is lots of different traditions in Belfast's music, so we are really looking forward to having a little bit of a twist to the Fleadh this year.'
Offering advice to the DUP councillor was CEO of Wexford County Council, Eddie Taaffe.
'Start planning early, it is a huge job, but we will give them every help that we can,' he advised Ms Kelly.
'And we have had two fantastic Fleadhs here in Wexford, a huge team behind it, a mountain of work, but we are really privileged to do it.
'We would have every confidence that, from what we have seen from the people in Belfast, it will be a fantastic Fleadh.'
During the event, Ms Kelly accepted the Fleadh harp on behalf of the city in line with the long-running tradition which signifies a gesture of friendship and goodwill.
Organisers Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann announced Belfast as the next host back in March.
The last time the historic celebration was hosted in NI was in 2013 when it drew around 430,000 people onto the streets of Londonderry and hailed as the 'biggest ever' Fleadh.
A world record was broken at the time, when 2,500 people – including Eamonn Holmes – took part in Riverdance in Ebrington Square.
'Having hosted the Fleadh in both 2024 and 2025, Wexford will prove a very hard act to follow, but Belfast is delighted to take up the baton and really ramp up our preparations for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026 – let the countdown begin,' the mayor said.
'I am delighted and honoured to receive the Fleadh harp for our year ahead, on behalf of the citizens of Belfast.
'The festival gives us an opportunity to showcase our city as a superb cultural destination and we're ready, along with our city partners, to give everyone a huge welcome.
Belfast History Explained: Who was Mary Ann McCracken?
'The benefits that the Fleadh will bring to Belfast can't be underestimated. We're expecting hundreds of thousands of people to travel for a week of music, fun and friendship, and it will be a momentous event for all our residents, visitors and businesses, with plenty of opportunities for everyone to come along, get involved and celebrate our people and our city, together.'

Dolly Parton reveals how to cope with loss in heartbreaking message to Kelly Clarkson

Country music icon, Dolly Parton, has reached out to American Idol star, Kelly Clarkson, after the death of the singer's ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, 48 Dolly Parton has offered her friend Kelly Clarkson some words of advice after the tragic death of her ex-husband. Brandon Blackstock died last week, aged 48, after losing his battle with cancer; five months after Dolly's husband, Carl Dean, passed away, leaving the Jolene star heartbroken. ‌ Dolly shared her words of wisdom for Kelly shortly after her friend and fellow country singer Reba McEntire — who was Blackstock's former stepmother — broke her silence about his death. ‌ Reaching out to Reba and Kelly, Dolly advised the women to focus on the happier memories they have of Brandon. It comes after it was revealed that the talent manager was in a relationship with Kelly's former assistant before he died. ‌ READ MORE: Ozzy Osbourne's 'played prank' on daughter Kelly at funeral from beyond the grave Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Dolly said: "I think that you just have to be grateful for the years that you've had with someone, and just try to remember the very best of all that." She also suggested that those dealing with grief should take the "energy" from those better times in the past and "just recycle "that' and "let that become a part of you." ‌ Dolly added that Kelly, who shares two children with Brandon, whom she was married to for seven years, should "honour" his memory, concluding that the star should take comfort in knowing that their loved ones "are in a better place than we are these days." When asked if she had spoken to Kelly since Brandon's death, Dolly admitted that she hadn't yet but would "catch up with her" because "I love Kelly." ‌ She explained: "No, I have not," adding that she had been busy promoting her new memoir Star Of The Show: My Life On Stage. "But I will, I'll catch up with her," Dolly added. The star also said that she would have a chance to see Reba soon, as they were going to be working together to sort out publicity for her new book. ‌ "I love Reba and I love Kelly," Dolly declared, before explaining into how difficult it is to keep up with her friends and their busy show business schedules. In March, Dolly suffered her own tragedy when her beloved husband, Carl, died after nearly 60 years of marriage to the 9 to 5 star. In a tearjerking tribute, Dolly looked on the "many wonderful years" the pair spent together as she shared deep love for Dean and thanked fans for their prayers. She said: "Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can't do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy." The couple had been married since 1966.

Kelly Clarkson's ex husband moved on with her former assistant before tragic death

Talent manager Brandon Blackstock moved on from his Kelly Clarkson divorce with her former assistant before his tragic death aged 48 following a cancer diagnosis Kelly Clarkson's ex-husband Brandon Blackstock had a "loving partner" at the time of his death, according to his obituary. The talent manager was married to singer Kelly from 2013 to 2020 and they welcomed two children together, River, 11, and son Remington, 9. ‌ He tragically died this month aged 48 following a cancer diagnosis over three years ago. Kelly had postponed her Las Vegas residency after sharing Brandon had become ill just before his death. ‌ Brandon also had two children from a previous marriage and in 2022, he became a grandfather after his eldest daughter gave birth to a son. Kelly filed for divorce from Brandon after six years of marriage in 2020, just weeks after they put their home on the market. ‌ She said in 2023 that the split "ripped her apart". Brandon's obituary has revealed he was in another relationship at the time of his death as they quietly built a new life together in Montana. He had been in a relationship with Brittney Marie Jones, who once worked as a former assistant to Kelly. "After more than 20 years in the music business, Brandon found his way back to the mountains and the cowboy way of life he always wanted to live," the obituary read. ‌ "He found a homestead and a love in Butte, Montana. Brandon, along with his beautiful and loving partner in life and business, Brittney Marie Jones, started building a life, building companies, and working tirelessly to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana." A report on Blackstock and Jones' rodeo business from 2024 listed Brittney as Kelly's "former assistant". The surprise revelation came just hours after Brandon's first wife, Melissa Ashworth spoke out. Alongside photos of her with Brandon on their children - Seth, 18, and Savannah, 23 - she wrote: "On May 29, 1999 I married the man who would become the father of my children. ‌ "Brandon was full of charm, wit, and just an absolute gentleman who happened to wear cowboy boots, wrangler jeans, and a cowboy hat. He was by far, hands down, the best Daddy and Pa. He loved hard and he fought hard. "The best thing Brandon has left for his children is they know where he is. I've heard it said, "Nothing is lost when you know where it is" and Brandon is with Jesus his Savior. Savannah, Seth, and our grandchildren are the best parts of who Brandon and I are. Thank you all for your prayers and condolences." ‌ Brandon married Kelly following his divorce from Melissa. A statement from the family announcing Brandon's death read: "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time." When announcing she was cancelling her Las Vegas residency, Kelly shared: "Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas.. "While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding."
