Delhi CM Rekha Gupta thanks PM Modi for Urban Extension Road-II project
Accompanied by Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and local MP Yogender Chandolia, Gupta inspected the venue for the inauguration of the UER-II at Rohini Sector 37, from where the road will be inaugurated by the prime minister on Sunday.
Describing the project as a "historic gift" for the city, the chief minister said the inauguration of the UER-II will not only move Delhi closer to becoming a traffic-free capital but also strengthen connectivity across the National Capital Region (NCR).
"The UER-II is not just an infrastructure project, it is an investment in the future of Delhi. It will improve the traffic flow, cut travel time drastically and uplift the quality of life for lakhs of people living in Delhi and NCR," she said.
The corridor will start at National Highway-44 (Alipur), traverse through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh and Dwarka, and terminate at National Highway-48, near Mahipalpur.
Highlighting its utility, Gupta said one of the most significant advantages of the road is the reduction in travel time from the Singhu border to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. It will now take just 40 minutes to cover the distance, compared to almost two hours earlier.
"The pressure on Inner and Outer Ring Roads will be substantially reduced, while major junctions such as Mukarba Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Peeragarhi Chowk, Dhaula Kuan and NH-9 will no longer face heavy congestion. This will be a huge relief for lakhs of daily commuters," she noted.
The UER-II will also act as a critical link connecting major highways, including NH-44 (Alipur), NH-9 (Bahadurgarh) and NH-48 (Mahipalpur). This improved connectivity will also expand industrial and logistics opportunities, the chief minister was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Delhi government.
The project will connect the industrial hubs of Sonipat and Bahadurgarh through dedicated link roads, giving a direct boost to industry and facilitating faster movement of goods. Gupta said this will not only accelerate economic activities in Delhi-NCR, but also strengthen the region's role as a hub of trade and commerce.
"With smoother traffic flow and shorter travel time, fuel consumption will decrease significantly, contributing to lower emissions. The UER-II will directly aid in reducing air-pollution levels and improving the overall environment of the capital," she underlined.
The route will also integrate with the Delhi-Jaipur national highway, the KMP Expressway, the Gurugram-Rewari highway and the Gurugram-Sohna highway. Notably, the Gurugram-Sohna stretch is directly linked to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, the statement said.
With this network, the UER-II will emerge as a backbone of high-speed connectivity, linking Delhi not just with the NCR but with the entire country, Gupta said.
Travelling to Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jaipur and even Mumbai will become much faster and more convenient. It is truly a "transformative" project for the people of Delhi and beyond, the chief minister said.

Real estate companies and consultants are optimistic about the impact of the inauguration of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Delhi stretch of the Dwarka Expressway on the overall Delhi NCR micro market. 'The housing sector, in particular, stands to benefit, as major infrastructural projects invariably enhance the overall appeal of the housing market among buyers,' said Ashok Kapur, chairman, Krishna Group and Krisumi Corporation. The 75.7-kilometre-long UER-II connects Alipur in North Delhi to Mahipalpur, near the Delhi-Gurugram border, passing through Bawana, Rohini, Mundka, Najafgarh and Dwarka. Built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the corridor links to the Dwarka Expressway as well as the Western and Eastern Peripheral Expressways, with two operational spurs towards Sonipat and Bahadurgarh in Haryana. Together with the 27.6-kilometre Dwarka Expressway, experts are calling UER-II a game changer that could ease traffic and provide momentum to the real estate market in Delhi and Gurugram. Pradeep Aggarwal, founder and chairman of Signature Global, said the interlinked, access-controlled highways will significantly reduce travel time between Delhi, IGI Airport and Gurugram, while decongesting National Highway 48 (NH 48) and other arterial routes. 'Bridging major economic hubs such as Cyber City, Udyog Vihar, and key IT parks, this infrastructure not only streamlines commuting but also catalyses large-scale residential, commercial and retail development,' he added. Property prices double along Dwarka Expressway Developers point out that property prices along the Dwarka Expressway have doubled over the past five years, demonstrating the ripple effect of infrastructure on real estate. Prices in the region have risen from Rs 9,434 per sq ft in 2019, when the foundation stone was laid, to Rs 18,668 per sq ft in 2024. 'With upcoming infrastructure upgrades, educational institutions, advanced healthcare facilities and well-developed social amenities, the Dwarka Expressway is poised to remain a leading driver of property growth, particularly in the premium housing segment,' said Kapur. Commercial and warehousing demand expected to rise Movement is expected on the demand side for commercial, residential and warehousing projects in the long term, with potential uplift in catchment areas such as Dwarka, Najafgarh, Rohini and other localities along NH 48 and the Dwarka Expressway. 'With close to 3 million sq ft of Grade A office stock nearing completion in the NH 48 micro market, commercial real estate activity across demand segments is likely to gain traction in the next few years,' said Vimal Nadar, national director and head of research at Colliers India. Growth driven by metro expansion and investor demand Developers anticipate that the growth story of the real estate market around Dwarka Expressway will accelerate, supported by enhanced metro connectivity and rising demand from both homebuyers and investors. Ravi Nirwal, sales director and principal partner at Square Yards, added that the operationalisation of UER-II is also expected to boost residential activity in Delhi's peripheral areas such as Kundli, Sonipat and Narela. 'The new connectivity corridor is expected to create a broader and more resilient base of demand,' he said.

The sentencing was handed down last week to Varun Gupta, who had worked at Intel for nearly ten years as a product marketing engineer. He was later dismissed from his senior role at Microsoft after the misconduct came to to Assistant US Attorney William Narus, Gupta transferred thousands of confidential files from his Intel-issued computer to a personal hard drive before resigning from the company in 2020. TOI reported that he subsequently accessed those files and used them while representing Microsoft in negotiations with Intel, particularly in a deal involving computer of the documents Gupta accessed was a PowerPoint presentation that detailed Intel's pricing strategy with a major customer. 'Not only did the defendant take proprietary materials with him, he also used those materials during negotiations against his prior employer,' Narus said in a sentencing memo, as quoted by the memo, Narus had pushed for an eight-month prison sentence, arguing it would serve as a deterrent in a high-turnover industry such as technology, where the misuse of confidential information poses a recurring attorney, David Angeli, argued that his client had already faced significant consequences, including losing his high-level job at Microsoft, settling a civil lawsuit with Intel for $40,000, and suffering irreparable reputational damage that had effectively ended his tech a statement to the court, Gupta expressed regret for his actions and apologised to Intel, Microsoft, and the government for the time and resources spent due to his "bad decision."Following the incident, Gupta relocated his family to France and left the technology industry altogether.
