Agra to get Rs 126 crore for better management of sewerage system
Under this project, 40 interception and diversion structures will be constructed to enhance the efficiency of the city's sewer network.
In addition to this, 21.20 km of interception and diversion sewer lines will be laid to ensure proper management of sewage in different areas.
"The project includes the installation of eight state-of-the-art pumping stations to control and ensure swift transportation of sewage water.
Trash screens will also be installed in five major drains to block pollutants and waste, thus safeguarding water bodies," said a UP govt official. He added that it will follow the Design-Build-Operate-Transfer (DBOT) model.
The mission also approved a project to assess the environmental flow in the Ghagra and Gomti river basins, with a budget of approximately Rs 8 crore. This project will create a detailed database of river ecosystems using drones and on-site monitoring across different weather conditions.
The database will cover water quality, flow, biodiversity of flora and fauna, and local social aspects, offering a comprehensive understanding of the environmental conditions of these rivers and their surroundings.
"The data will help in developing conservation strategies while factoring in climate change, land use, and cover changes, along with human water demand. Various models will be used to identify suitable management options, which will be reviewed and improved regularly," the official added. The data will also enable an accurate assessment of required environmental flows and the development of best management practices for sustainable conservation of the Ghagra and Gomti river basins.

Works on to fix weak ceiling at Gudiyattam bus stop
VELLORE: Work is ongoing to remove the existing P-sand ceiling plaster of a newly-constructed bus stop at Chittor Gate area in Gudiyattam and to reconstruct the ceiling with Plaster of Paris as of Sunday. According to officials at the Gudiyattam Block Development office, since several building roofs with P-sand ceiling plaster have been chipping off, they have been instructed to check the structural integrity of buildings constructed with such roofs in the past 3 to 4 years, especially at Anganwadis, schools, bus stops, and other facilities where large numbers of the public congregate. 'As the plaster of the bus stop had chipped off within days of its inauguration, we asked the contractors to inspect its roof. Last night, they struck it to test its strength. Due to the impact, a portion of the ceiling fell off this morning. Since it was found to be weak, the entire roof plaster is being removed, and work will be carried out to lay the ceiling with Plaster of Paris.' The bus stop was constructed at a cost of Rs 11 lakhs using the MPLADS fund of Vellore MP Kathir Anand. Earlier, within two days of its inauguration in April last year, a portion of the roof plaster had collapsed, and the fallen portion alone was hurriedly repaired following the incident.

Uttarkashi Flood Survivors Protest Against Rs 5000 Relief Cheques, Call Amount 'Too Less'
Last Updated: Uttarkashi has been battered by flash floods, which caused severe loss of lives and properties in the area. The flash floods in Uttarkashi have left many locals homeless, sweeping away people, houses, and entire families. Adding to their distress was the issuance of Rs 5,000 cheques as 'immediate relief" on Friday—an amount many felt was grossly inadequate given the scale of the tragedy. According to a report by The Times Of India, several people refused to accept it and called it an 'insult" to their 'suffering". 'We have lost everything: our families, homes, businesses worth crores. This amount is an insult," one villager was quoted as saying. The area has no electricity, and they received candles four days after the disaster battered the place. 'We spent those nights in darkness. Used firewood to heat food. Govt talks about ration, but that, too, has not reached us. We had to go door to door looking for it," one of the villagers said. This also sparked a protest as Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced Rs 5 lakh compensation. Speaking to ANI on Saturday, CM Dhami asserted, 'More than 1000 people have been rescued. All the devotees and pilgrims from all across the country, who were stuck there, have been rescued… All the injured people have been shifted to hospitals. Connectivity was completely destroyed in Harsil. It was restored there yesterday. A Bailey bridge will be installed by evening near Lachi Gad, which will help reconstruct roads till Harsil." He added, 'We have decided to provide affected families with rations for the next six months… A three-member committee is being formed under the chairmanship of the Revenue Secretary… They will see how the affected family can be rehabilitated and the extent of the loss incurred… We will also provide a relief package to those in need." Earlier on Saturday, CM Dhami met the state Governor, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Gurmit Singh at Raj Bhavan in Dehradun to take stock of the situation. In a post on X, Dhami wrote, 'I met the Honourable Governor @LtGenGurmit (Retd.) at Raj Bhavan. During this, we discussed the ongoing disaster relief operations in Dhrali and Harsil and the rehabilitation of the affected people." view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
