No Pakistani films, shows, or music on Indian OTTs: Govt
While the advisory, issued by the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB), does not cite specific companies, it said content, including web series, films, songs, podcasts, and other streaming media must be discontinued.
'In the interest of national security, all OTT platforms, media streaming platforms and intermediaries operating in India are advised to discontinue the web-series, films, songs, podcasts and other streaming media content, whether made available on a subscription-based model or otherwise, having its origins in Pakistan with immediate effect,' the advisory said.
The advisory, issued under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, reminds platforms of their duty to follow the Code of Ethics and ensure content does not harm India's sovereignty, security, foreign relations, or public order.
The advisory also points to Rule 3(1)(b) of the IT Rules, which says that platforms must try to ensure that neither they nor their users share any content that could harm India's unity, security, or relations with other countries.
Since the advisory is non-binding in nature, OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar among others, and digital intermediaries such as YouTube and Spotify can review and remove content that originates from Pakistan.
'While it's a non-binding advisory, the directive language of it presents it as an expectation rather than a suggestion,' said Abhivardhan, technology law specialist and founder of legal consultancy Indic Pacific.
Meanwhile, people familiar with the matter said that the MIB and the IT ministry are working in 'heightened coordination with each other' to deal with disinformation online.

Stray dog menace: Meghalaya HC satisfied with govt steps
Guwahati: Meghalaya high court has expressed satisfaction regarding substantial action taken by the state govt to mitigate the menace of stray dogs after a petition was filed by one Kaustav Paul. Submitting their report before a bench of Chief Justice IP Mukerji and Justice W Diengdoh, the govt detailed their steps, which included setting up of awareness camps, drives to vaccinate stray dogs against rabies, sterilisation and castration, and providing shelters to segregate the dogs from people. The court also took note that the committees, under rule 4 of the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001, had been constituted for South Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district to implement the rules. The committees for the other 10 districts were formed earlier, which had been submitted by the additional advocate general T Yangi B before the court during the previous hearing of the petition last month. The petitioner, through the petition filed last year, sought the court to pass orders, directing the state to take appropriate measures to control the menace caused by stray dogs. Railway budget for Karnataka jumped nearly ninefold under Modi: Ashwini Vaishnaw
Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday highlighted a sharp rise in budgetary allocation for Karnataka's railway projects since 2014, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the change. Addressing a gathering after Mr. Modi inaugurated the Yellow Line of Namma Metro here on Sunday, Mr. Vaishnaw said that Karnataka had been receiving only about ₹835 crore annually for railway works prior to 2014. 'Under Mr. Modi's leadership, this allocation has surged to ₹7,500 crore. At present, projects worth ₹54,000 crore are under way across the State,' he said. He added that 61 railway stations in the State are being modernised under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aimed at upgrading passenger amenities and infrastructure. 'A decade ago, the idea of India exporting electronics seemed far-fetched. Bengaluru leads in AI Highlighting initiatives to make advanced technology accessible, especially artificial intelligence (AI), Mr. Vaishnaw said the India AI Mission provides 34,000 GPUs as a shared computing resource for innovators across the country. 'Bengaluru is one of the biggest users of this facility. The cost is less than one US dollar an hour, making it the world's most affordable common compute resource,' he said. He also pointed out to the efforts of Bengaluru-based startup Sarvam, which is developing an indigenous Large Language Model trained on extensive datasets in multiple Indian languages. This AI system, he said, is being designed to be free from biases and to reflect India's linguistic diversity.

U.P. cop reinstated by High Court after ex-IG's daughter argues case against father's order
In a striking instance of professional integrity taking precedence over personal ties, the Allahabad High Court has reinstated a police constable dismissed by then Bareilly Range Inspector General Rakesh Singh (now retired), after the constable's appeal was argued by Mr. Singh's daughter, advocate Anura Singh. Constable Taufiq Ahmad was dismissed on January 13, 2023, following departmental proceedings over allegedly sexually assaulting a woman passenger and offences under the POCSO Act, lodged at the GRP police station. He was also sent to jail in connection with the case. Mr. Rakesh Singh had taken a "strict but duty-bound" decision to remove him from service, citing the severity of the charges. Mr. Ahmad challenged the dismissal in the High Court, where Mr. Anura Singh argued that the inquiry violated the Uttar Pradesh Police Subordinate Ranks (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1991. She contended that the inquiry officer had not only found the charges proved but also recommended punishment — a power reserved solely for the disciplinary authority. Justice Ajit Kumar agreed with the argument, quashed the inquiry report and the dismissal order, and directed Mr. Ahmad's reinstatement with a fresh inquiry to be completed within three months. "This was simply about doing our respective jobs," Mr. Anura said on Sunday (August 10, 2025), adding that the authority of the court stands above all personal equations. Mr. Rakesh Singh said he was proud his daughter upheld her professional role, while Mr. Ahmad expressed gratitude, saying he was unaware of the personal connection during the case.
