Egypt, Qatar FMs discuss Gaza ceasefire efforts - Foreign Affairs
The call focused on the horrific humanitarian situation in Gaza due to Israel's mass starvation policy and the Egyptian-Qatari efforts to halt the Israeli genocidal war against Palestinian civilians, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
During the call, both foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying diplomatic efforts to reach a comprehensive ceasefire agreement that would allow for the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid to starving Palestinians and end the repeated Israeli attacks on civilians.
Moreover, they discussed the ongoing preparations for the upcoming International Conference on the Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza, which Egypt will host.
The conference will focus on implementing the Arab-Islamic plan for rebuilding the war-battered Gaza.
Egypt and Qatar also stressed the importance of sustained coordination between them and mobilizing international support for establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
On Thursday, the US and Israel pulled back from Gaza ceasefire talks in Doha.
However, Egypt and Qatar said Friday they will continue the mediation efforts to halt the brutal war in Gaza, end the humanitarian tragedy, protect civilians, and facilitate a captive-prisoner exchange.

He also reviewed Egypt's ongoing efforts to bring humanitarian, medical, and shelter aid into Gaza, stressing the need to ensure the continuous flow of humanitarian aid into the strip and the importance of continuing pressure to increase the number of aid trucks. Additionally, Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart stressed the importance of continuing joint action with international actors to halt the brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza and reach a deal that would guarantee the release of captives and put an end to the current starvation policy. They also emphasised the need to confront Israel's disregard for all rules of international law and international humanitarian law, reaffirming the importance of exerting pressure on both concerned parties to reach a ceasefire deal as soon as possible. During his call with his Greek counterpart, the Egyptian FM addressed the latest developments in Libya, where both sides stressed the utmost importance of holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously at the earliest possible opportunity. They also stressed the necessity of dismantling militias and the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries, considering this the only guarantee to achieve security and stability in Libya. During the call, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's steadfast commitment to protecting religious sanctities, including Saint Catherine's Monastery. He emphasised the state's commitment to protecting and preserving the monastery's sacred religious status, as well as refraining from encroaching on its associated archaeological sites, given their spiritual value and religious standing. Thousands of Palestinians across West Bank protest against Israeli war on Gaza - War on Gaza
Thousands of Palestinians protested in the occupied West Bank's major cities Sunday against Israel's war on Gaza and in support of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. One of the largest marches took place in Ramallah, the seat of the Palestinian Authority located just north of Jerusalem, with hundreds gathering at the main square, waving Palestinian flags. Many protesters carried photos of Palestinians killed or imprisoned by Israel, as well as photos showing the starvation in the Gaza Strip under Israel's blockade, where UN-backed experts have warned that a "famine is unfolding." "My son is in (Israel's) Megido prison and he suffers from many things, such as the lack of medicine the lack of food," Rula Ghanem, a Palestinian academic and writer who took part in the march, told AFP. Iran sets up new defence council after war with Israel - Region
Iran's top security body has approved the creation of a new defence council, state media reported on Sunday, more than a month after a ceasefire ended a 12-day war with Israel. "The Supreme National Security Council approved the establishment of the National Defence Council," state television said. The new body -- which will be chaired by the president and include top military commanders among other senior officials and ministers -- will be tasked with "reviewing defence strategies" and "enhancing the capabilities of Iran's armed forces", it added. On Friday, the Fars news agency said the decision comes as part of broader structural changes to Iran's security apparatus. The move comes in the wake of a conflict with Israel that, according to official figures, left more than 1,000 people dead in Iran and 29 in Israel. The war began on June 13, when Israel launched strikes on military, nuclear and residential sites in Iran. Iran responded with retaliatory attacks on Israeli territory.
