Your Friends and Neighbours star Amanda Peet faked being waitress to land job at Italian restaurant

Perth Now27-05-2025
Amanda Peet once faked being a waitress to get a job in an Italian restaurant.
The 53-year-old actress "made up" a name for a restaurant in San Francisco and put her then-boyfriend's phone number "as the reference" to land the job, but the 'Your Friends and Neighbors' star soon got fired after she warmed bread in the pizza oven.
Amanda told PEOPLE magazine: "I had never waitressed, so I put that I had and then made up a restaurant that was in San Francisco, even though I was from New York, and then gave my boyfriend's number as the reference.
"Then, on my first day, it was like an Italian restaurant where they had a pizza oven.
"A lovely couple whose table I was assigned to asked me if I could warm the bread, which was in a bread basket. I put the whole thing in the pizza oven.
"I didn't start a fire, but the dude was like, 'You're fired, you dumb, actress type.'"
Amanda plays Mel Cooper - a therapist who has separated from her former former hedge fund manager husband, Andrew 'Coop' Cooper (Jon Hamm), after it was revealed he had been having a fling with his best pal and NBA player, Nick Brandes (Mark Tallman) - in the Apple TV+ thriller series, 'Your Friends and Neighbours'.
The show sees Amanda's alter ego take part in steamy sex scenes with Coop and Nick, but Amanda is not fazed by the intimate performances.
The 'Something's Gotta Give' actress explained: "Dude, I've been doing this for so long, I'm just like, 'Show me where to be. Show me who to kiss.
Who do I have to make out with today?'
"Whenever I see Lizzy [Talbot], the intimacy coordinator, I'm like, 'Wait, I have a sex scene?' And she's like, 'No, dear. It's somebody else.' It's so funny when I see her, I'm like, 'Oh my God, I forgot I have a sex scene.' "
As well as Amanda, 44-year-old actress Olivia Munn, who plays Samantha 'Sam' Levitt in the show, also had to do intimate scenes with Jon, 54.
Their characters had a secret fling while he was navigating his divorce from Mel, and Olivia was so nervous about pushing her teeth into the Hollywood legend's skin when filming the intimate scene.
The 'X-Men: Apocalypse' star told the same outlet: "My character had to bite him, and I was nervous, but he just kept saying, 'It's okay. You can bite really hard.'
"And then I did. And he's a pretty tough guy. He's a very tough guy."

Brandon Blackstock's cause of death revealed

Brandon Blackstock's cause of death has been confirmed. The talent manager, who was married to pop star Kelly Clarkson from 2013 to 2022, sadly passed away at the age of 48 last week and it has been revealed that he died from melanoma - a form of skin cancer - by Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis. He added to People: "Brandon Blackstock passed away peacefully at his home in Butte, Montana on August 7th under hospice care surrounded by his family." Brandon - who had children River, 11, and Remy, nine, from his marriage to Kelly - died last week after battling cancer for over three years. A statement from a family representative read: "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time." Blackstock's passing came just a day after Kelly, 43, revealed that her ex-husband was ill and that she would be postponing the rest of her Las Vegas residency dates for August. The Since U Been Gone hitmaker wrote on Instagram: "Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas. "While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding." Kelly is understood to be "staying strong" for her kids in the wake of Brandon's death, even though the couple's marriage ended in acrimony. A source told People: "Kelly and Brandon had their ups and downs, but at the end of the day, he was the father of her children and she is absolutely heartbroken for them. Her kids are her entire world, and she's staying strong for their sake." The Because of You singer had always tried to remain "classy" for the sake of their kids after learning that Brandon - who served as her manager during their marriage - was seriously ill. The insider added: "When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake. "Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She's been devastated for the kids."

Kathy Griffin undergoes third facelift

Kathy Griffin is recovering after undergoing her third facelift. The 64-year-old comedian admitted the decision to go under the knife again was "vain" and admitted she just wants to look her best because she's photographed so often when she's not wearing make-up. During an appearance on the Talk Your Head Off podcast, Kathy explained: "'This is my third [facelift], yes ... "I know that's so vain! I'm so vain for no reason. No one has ever gone to a Kathy Griffin show to see her beautiful, youthful face. You come to hear my jokes, which is what I want ... "I don't want you to come to care what I look like. I'm in Lululemons today for God's sake. I'm in my fat pants. I don't have dysmorphia ... I have a little." She went on to add: "I think I'm just getting papped a lot because I'm alive. And what I mean by that is when you're at a certain age, you get paparazzi'd because you don't have make-up on. And when I work out, guess what? I don't have make-up on ... Very taut is also very true!" Kathy revealed she also had surgery on her eyelids and her chin and the recovery has been tough. She explained: "'There's a stitch in my chin, which you're probably not going to see unless you're under me, but not in that way ... I'm gonna be honest, it's painful. So these b****** that are like: 'It's like getting a tooth filled! It's nothing!' No, it's painful." Kathy has been open about her past surgeries and previous admitted she underwent an operation on her nose when she was 26 years old because she believed it would help her find more work. Speaking to People in 2009, she admitted: "I was told repeatedly: 'You would be pretty if it weren't for that nose. You'd work more if it weren't for that nose. Hey have you considered getting a nose job?' You would think I had a nose the size of Texas. "I was young and impressionable and I was told that enough that I started to believe it, so I got a nose job."

Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, 17, opens up about the one modelling rule set by celebrity parents Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban that she 'hated' at first

Sunday Rose Kidman Urban has revealed the major rule her famous parents, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, laid down before she could begin her modelling career- and why she "hated it" at first. The 17-year-old, who made her professional modelling debut at Paris Fashion Week last year, fronts the August issue of Nylon magazine and spoke candidly about life in the spotlight and what it's like growing up as the daughter of two of the world's most recognisable stars. She explained that her parents had "two big rules" before she stepped into the public eye. "The first was that I couldn't explore any kind of fashion work until I was 16, and the second is that school always has to come first, which at first I hated, but I am actually really glad that I have these rules in place because it keeps me in a good mindset," Sunday Rose said. Raised in Nashville, Tennessee, alongside her 14-year-old sister Faith Margaret, Sunday Rose turned heads in October when she opened the Miu Miu spring/summer 2025 show. At the time, Urban, 57, told People he hopes he and Kidman, 58, can help keep their daughter "balanced" as her star begins to rise. "Hopefully, she'll benefit by having two parents who know about a certain amount of celebrity," the Aussie rocker said. "It's all a challenge. I mean, raising kids is a challenge, period. It's about trying to keep a balance." That approach appears to be working, with Sunday Rose admitting that even while walking in her first runway show, schoolwork was top of mind. "So at my first show, while I was walking, I was actually just thinking about the amount of schoolwork I was going to have to make up!" she said. "I was really just hoping my teachers would let me have a couple days when I got back." The teenager says she enjoys the slower pace of life in Nashville, where most people her age don't know she has celebrity parents. "It's sort of wonderful because I am able to make a first impression based on who I am and not who my family is," she said. Still, Sunday Rose has big dreams, hoping to study filmmaking at university in a city like Los Angeles or New York. "Filmmaking has actually been my dream career since I was five, so I hope I'm able to study that in college," she said. Since her Miu Miu debut, Sunday Rose has appeared in an editorial campaign for the Italian fashion house and walked for its fall/winter ready-to-wear fashion show in March. In July, she starred in Omega's summer 2025 campaign- a brand her mother has been an ambassador for over two decades. Kidman, who also shares two adult children, Bella and Connor, with ex-husband Tom Cruise, recently told Vanity Fair she encourages her kids to seize opportunities. "It's what I try to teach my kids because I don't know what their futures are: Hold on and go for it and take the opportunities when they arise and jump in and try something," the Aussie actress said. "The worst you can do is fail. That may be humiliating, but at least you don't go, 'Gosh, I wish I'd tried that, and I regret that I didn't'."
