Pop a cork! Bangkok sweeps gold in the Star Wine List of the Year Asia 2025

Time Out13-05-2025

There's more to Bangkok than street food and skyscrapers – the capital's also making major moves in the world of wine. The Big Mango claimed six out of 12 Gold Stars in the Star Wine List of the Year Asia 2025, cementing its status as a rising star in Asia's wine scene.
The awards, released annually, celebrate the best wine lists and the talent behind them across Greater China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam. With categories covering everything from list length and by-the-glass offerings to sparkling wines, regional focuses, sustainability and rising stars, the competition highlights all dimensions of wine curation.
Judging is handled by an independent panel of internationally acclaimed sommeliers. For the 2025 edition, the panel included Salvatore Castano, ASI's Best Sommelier of Europe and Africa 2021, and Reeze Choi, ASI's Third Best Sommelier of the World 2023, who engaged in rigorous discussions to determine the winners across 11 categories.
This year, the capital takes home six of the 12 Gold Stars – the highest recognition in each category. Inddee leads the pack with three wins: Best By the Glass List, Best Medium-Sized List and the prestigious Grand Prix. Other standout winners include Haoma, recognised for Best Short List and Sustainable Wine List and Sühring, which claimed Best Austrian Wine List.
But the excitement doesn't end there – Gold Star winners automatically qualify for the Star Wine List of the Year International Final, set to take place in Vienna this June. So keep an eye on the announcement as we might see Bangkok shine even brighter on the global stage.

Red Bull chief vows to confront Schumacher over 'nonsense' Verstappen comment

Ralf Schumacher produced a theory for Max Verstappen's moment of madness at the Spanish Grand Prix appears to have angered Helmut Marko, who slammed the German's 'nonsense' Helmut Marko has dismissed a 'nonsense' theory about Max Verstappen after the Dutchman's moment of madness during the Spanish Grand Prix. Angry about two collisions he felt other drivers had caused with him late in the Barcelona race, he appeared to deliberately bang wheels with George Russell. Fortunately, it didn't cause a crash or any significant damage, but Verstappen was handed a penalty which dropped him from fifth place to 10th. And it sparked widespread condemnation of his actions, which also led to three more penalty points on his licence which puts him just one away from a race ban. ‌ The general consensus has been that Verstappen suffered a fit of road rage which led to his petulant act. But, analysing the situation for Sky Germany, former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher offered a different theory. ‌ He mentioned a paddock rumour which claims Verstappen might be able to retire at the end of this season if he does not finish in the top three in the championship. Schumacher's theory was that he might throw away points on purpose to give himself that option. But it is not a theory to which Red Bull adviser Marko will be subscribing to. "I don't know where he said that nonsense," was his retort when Schumacher's comments were presented to him by Austrian outlet OE24. Marko admitted that Verstappen "could have handled the situation much more elegantly", but insisted that any rumoured release clauses in the Dutchman's Red Bull contract are "not relevant at the moment" and dismissed the details of them as little more than speculation. He also made it clear that he plans to have words with Schumacher, obviously unimpressed by the rumours that the six-time F1 race winner has been spreading. Asked if he plans to confront the German, Marko replied: "The next time I meet him, I'll tell him straight away." ‌ Verstappen's penalty saw him take just one point away from the Barcelona race. To make matter worse, his main title rivals scored maximum points with championship leader Oscar Piastri securing his fifth victory of the season and Lando Norris finishing second behind his McLaren team-mate. Verstappen is now 49 points off the lead, but with plenty of time to address that situation with 15 rounds remaining in the 2025 season. However, he offered only a glum outlook on his title chances after the race when he said: "We are way too slow anyway to fight for the title, that was clear again today." Marko knows he will have to play something of a cheerleader role to lift Verstappen's spirits after a damaging weekend. He said: "I'm trying to cheer him up: We're not giving up, but something has to finally change with the car."

Montreal metro and bus strike June 2025: Dates and everything you need to know

With the Canadian Grand Prix coming to Montreal, the city will be busier than ever —with a week-long metro and bus strike in the mix. Maintenance workers at Montreal's public transit agency are set to strike this month, causing disruptions to bus and Metro service outside of rush hours. Time Out Tip: No better time to mention that over 7 km of road across six boroughs will be officially car-free for nearly four months from June to September, 2025. According to Quebec's labour tribunal, Société de transport de Montréal (STM) employees are permitted to strike from 12 a.m. on June 9 to 11:59 p.m. on June 17, 2025. During this period, only essential services will be maintained during peak hours and late evenings. There will be extended service periods on June 12, 2025, and full service over Canadian Grand Prix weekend from June 13 to June 15, 2025. When will the bus and metro run during the STM strike? STM service will be limited to rush hour and late evenings on June 9, 10, 11, 16 and 17, 2025: Metro: 6:30 a.m. to 9:38 a.m. 2:45 p.m. to 5:48 p.m. 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Bus: 6:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. 11:15 p.m. to 1:15 a.m. Will service be affected during Grand Prix weekend? The following is the schedule of services offered on June 12, 2025, the eve of Canadian Grand Prix weekend: Metro: 6:30 a.m. to 10:38 a.m. 2:45 p.m. to 6:48 p.m. 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Bus: 6:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 11:15 p.m. to 1:15 a.m. Why is the STM going on strike? Members of the local Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) stated that the STM administration continues to make significant demands on unionized staff, particularly when it comes to work schedules, work-life balance and job security. Also among the points of contention between union members and the employer is the issue of wage increases and the privatization of paratransit services.
