Opposition in denial about Sabah's progress under current govt, says Hajiji
He said the opposition kept harping on a "lack of progress" but conveniently refused to acknowledge the development and economic initiatives that are in place and already benefitting the people.
"We have... implemented many initiatives for the (economic) well-being of the people," Hajiji said at an event to mark the upgrading of interior Sook from a sub-district to a full district on Monday (April 28).
"These claims by the opposition that the GRS-Pakatan government has not brought any development to the state are false.
"These are the claims of those who deny the successes brought by the government.
"However, we will not keep silent, but continue to work for the development of the state and the people," said Hajiji, who is expected to call for the dissolution of the Sabah assembly before its term is completed in November.
He said assistance was also given to children from B40 families who successfully furthered their studies at higher education institutions.
Other forms of student aid included IPT Registration Cash Assistance (Budi), the Special Examination Cash Assistance (Bakti), Computer Kindness Assistance (BAIK) and special subsidy on RM800 flight tickets (GRS-Subfly) to students who studying in the peninsula and Sarawak, as well as RM300 given under the Sentosa programme for higher education.
"This is part of 13 state government educational assistance initiatives for eligible students," he added.
Hajiji said other initiatives included the construction of 3,000 units of SMJ Friendly Houses in all 73 state constituencies at a cost of RM250mil.
The latest aid this year is the Sentuhan Kasih Rakyat (Syukur) programme, he said, which will benefit about 100,000 recipients through cash assistance of RM300 per month until the end of the year.
On the opposition's criticism about water supply, electricity and roads, Hajiji said his government inherited those decades-old problems and was in the process of solving them.

GRS accuses Warisan of hypocrisy
Published on: Monday, August 11, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 11, 2025 Text Size: Joniston, who is also Parti Bersatu (PBS) Information Chief said while Warisan has the right to contest all 73 state seats, politics should not be reduced to a game of one-upmanship. Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan's claim it wants to contest all 73 seats in the coming state election so as to block peninsula-based parties interfering in Sabah politics smacks of hypocrisy, says GRS Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai. He recalled the party's action in teaming up with peninsula-based Umno in the failed attempt to unseat the Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor-led State Government in January 2023. Advertisement 'Wasn't Warisan's move in the 'Langkah Kinabalu' plot to give Umno a lifeline? 'Warisan's action shows it is prepared to do anything that serves its interest,' he said. Joniston, who is also Parti Bersatu (PBS) Information Chief said while Warisan has the right to contest all 73 state seats, politics should not be reduced to a game of one-upmanship. 'Even in Sarawak, PBB could govern independently but chose to form GPS for a more inclusive state government,' said the Kiulu assemblyman during a meet-the-people session in Kampung Ranau-Ranau in his constituency. Advertisement He also said political stability from the very first day after polling is critical to ensuring that the government can immediately focus on serving the people. Joniston stressed that Sabah's political realities demand an end to post-election horse-trading, which risks delaying the urgent work of governing. 'We must be realistic. The priority is to have a stable government from day one, without endless bargaining or prolonged negotiations after the election. 'The sooner we have clarity, the sooner we can get to work,' he said. He noted that just as Gabungan Rakyat Sabah works closely with Pakatan Harapan (PH) today, such cooperation safeguards Sabah's voice at the federal level while ensuring the state remains steady in its own governance. He stressed that the partnership is built on mutual respect, with Sabah's leadership and decision-making firmly in the hands of GRS. 'When the state and federal governments can work in sync, Sabah gains in funding, development, and policy support. That's what matters to our people,' he said. Joniston said only with stability can the government fully focus on solving pressing issues, from improving rural infrastructure to ensuring a reliable water and electricity supply and creating more economic opportunities for the people. He added that consistency in principles is essential to earn and keep public trust, especially when safeguarding Sabah's autonomy. While acknowledging that the people's mandate will ultimately shape the next government, he said GRS is committed to placing Sabah's stability and development above political brinkmanship. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? 73 seats decision based on needs: Shafie
Published on: Monday, August 11, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 11, 2025 Text Size: Shafie stated that Warisan would ensure its candidates would not focus on lobbying for projects or engaging in corrupt practices. Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan's decision to contest in all 73 seats was based on the Sabah people's needs, says its president, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal. He also stated that the party would be relying on the support of the people of Sabah in the upcoming election, as it does not have a large war chest. Advertisement 'We have the plans and the capacity and can do better than GRS if given the chance to govern.' 'So vote for Warisan in this coming state election, I am not forcing you, to vote is your right and I know that the rakyat knows what they need and require,' he said. Shafie stated that Warisan would ensure its candidates would not focus on lobbying for projects or engaging in corrupt practices. 'Anyone aiming to be a Yang Berhormat should not own any businesses. If you are appointed as a cabinet minister, do not lobby for projects, or I will sack you,' said Shafie. Advertisement He added that the assemblyman or minister can lobby for a project if it is development for their constituency and not to line their pockets. 'For example, he can request road construction if it is for the benefit of the people,' said Shafie. He also warned that the government's allocations to state assemblymen should never be for personal use. 'Do not let me find out that the allocation was used to renovate your house or to purchase a new vehicle,' said Shafie. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? NGOs preserving heritage assured of government support
Published on: Monday, August 11, 2025 Published on: Mon, Aug 11, 2025 By: R Gonzales Text Size: TYT Musa at the event. Tuaran: The Sabah Government will continue supporting non-governmental organisations that organise activities aimed at preserving the cultural heritage of the State's diverse ethnic groups, provided these do not overlap with similar government programs. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said cultural and arts programs like the Bajausamah Ethnic Cultural Festival can elevate the State's cultural treasures to higher levels while boosting Sabah's international image. Advertisement He said this at the opening ceremony of the Bajausamah Ethnic Cultural Festival held at the Bajausamah Ethnic Cultural Centre in Lok Batik, here, Sunday (also see p5 reports). The event was graced by Head of State Tun Musa Aman and his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin. Hajiji said such programs also strengthen community bonds regardless of race and religion. Reflecting the festival's theme 'Traditional Culture as the Core of Malaysian Madani Unity,' Hajiji said the Bajausamah Association bears the responsibility of promoting unity as their core mission, as the true goal of honouring cultural heritage is creating harmony and maintaining solidarity. Advertisement 'For generations and centuries, the people of this State have practised a culture of mutual respect, cooperation and assistance regardless of skin colour or religious beliefs,' he said. He said Sabah's spirit of unity and tolerance has created a unique and attractive community identity. With 35 ethnic groups and 217 sub-ethnic communities, Sabah represents true diversity within Malaysia's context, yet maintains harmony under the motto Unity in Diversity. Hajiji said unity brings strength and respect, while division leads to weakness and vulnerability. He expressed confidence that through festivals featuring traditional dance competitions like Limbai and Runsai, Bintang Soromas singing contests and Betitik competitions, new talents can be discovered while preserving cultural heritage. He also acknowledged Musa's support in establishing the Bajausamah Association 12 years ago and developing the cultural centre, which began construction in 2017 during Musa's tenure as Chief Minister. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
