Dhankhar 3rd vice president to quit mid-term

New Delhi, Jul 21 (PTI) Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday became the third vice president to have resigned mid-term.
Earlier, Vice President V V Giri, who had taken over as the acting president after the death of incumbent Zakir Hussain on May 3, 1969, had resigned from the post.
Giri resigned as the vice president on July 2, 1969 to contest the presidential election as an independent candidate.
He also became the first vice president not to complete his term in office.
Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat resigned from the post on July 21, 2007, after being defeated in the presidential election against Congress-led UPA nominee Pratibha Patil.
After Shekhawat's resignation, the vice president's post was vacant for 21 days, before Mohammad Hamid Ansari was elected to the position.
Vice Presidents R Venkataraman, Shankar Dayal Sharma and K R Narayanan too had resigned from their posts, but after their election as the president.
Krishan Kant was the only vice president to die in office. He passed away on July 27, 2002. PTI SKU RC

Kharge: Trump's claim is humiliating
Mallikarjun Kharge NEW DELHI: Calling US President Donald Trump 's claim that he facilitated India-Pakistan ceasefire "humiliating", Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge sought a clarification on the issue. Kharge said that Trump has made the claim 24 times. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, the Congress president called for a two-day debate on the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor and foreign policy. "The terrorists responsible have neither been apprehended nor eliminated to date," he said. "We had extended unconditional support to govt to maintain unity in the country and to strengthen the armed forces. In light of this, we wish to know from govt what the complete situation is," said Kharge, raising the issue. Kharge said the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Deputy Army Chief and one of the senior defence attache have made some revelations regarding Operation Sindoor. "Apart from this, govt should also clarify its stand on the statement of US President Donald Trump, because he has claimed not once but 24 times that he got the ceasefire done. This is humiliating for the country," he said.

1 2 Ranchi: After several party lawmakers spoke up against Congress ministers in the cabinet of chief minister Hemant Soren and objected to their ways of functioning in recent weeks, state Congress president Keshav Mahto Kamlesh on Monday claimed that all its legislators and MPs are united and on the same page over issue. Mahto also reiterated that the INDIA bloc, which is helming the govt, is working in tandem and there is synergy among all its constituent parties. Mahto's claims came as several MLAs criticised various govt plans and announcements, including the Rims 2.0 project in Nagri in Ranchi district. Addressing media at party office, Mahto said, "Raising public sentiments shouldn't be dubbed as opposition to govt or its policies. It is part of the democracy. All our MLAs, MPs are united, and our alliance partners too are on same page for smooth governance." He also informed that on July 25, several workers from state unit too will take part in national convention by AICC's OBC wing at Talkatora stadium in New Dekhi.
