Apple TV 4K or Google TV: The better choice for your streaming needs
Streaming devices have changed the way we watch TV. From endless apps and OTT platforms to features like voice search, Dolby Vision and smart home integration, these gadgets now offer much more than just video playback. Among the top contenders, Google TV Streamer and Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen) stand out. Both promise premium performance, but they cater to different kinds of users. While Google focuses on content variety and smart AI-powered suggestions, Apple leans on its seamless ecosystem and blazing-fast performance. Have you figured out which one's right for you, or cannot decide yet? In either of the cases, our detailed comparison guide will help you make an informed decision. Specs at a glance: Google TV vs Apple TV 4K Feature Google TV Streamer Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen) Ports USB-C, HDMI 2.1a, Ethernet HDMI 2.1, Ethernet Storage 32GB 64GB / 128GB Resolution 4K (3840 x 2160) 4K (3840 x 2160) HDR Support HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision Refresh Rate 60Hz 60Hz Connectivity Wi-Fi 5 Wi-Fi 6 Software Google TV tvOS Google TV vs Apple TV 4K: Design and usability When it comes to design, both Apple and Google stick to their brand identities. The Apple TV 4K carries forward Apple's signature minimalistic design. The device is meant to blend into your TV cabinet without drawing much attention. The Siri Remote adds to the premium feel, slim, lightweight and responsive. Its touch-enabled clickpad makes scrolling and navigation easy, while voice commands via Siri add extra convenience. The Google TV Streamer, on the other hand, opts for a softer, more modern look. The design makes cable management easier, as wires can be tucked away neatly. The bundled remote keeps things simple, with dedicated buttons for popular apps and Google Assistant. A standout feature here is the 'find my remote' button on the device itself, a lifesaver for anyone who frequently loses remotes between couch cushions. Overall, Apple plays it safe with elegance, while Google focuses on practicality and small details that improve day-to-day use. Performance and picture quality In terms of performance, both devices deliver excellent results. Both devices support 4K Ultra HD resolution, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Dolby Atmos audio, ensuring sharp visuals and immersive sound that can easily turn your living room into a mini-theatre. The Apple TV 4K excels in performance with its A15 Bionic chip, offering near-instant app loading and smooth multitasking. Its 64GB and 128GB storage options let users download games, apps, and offline content without worrying about space. The Google TV Streamer is capable but slightly limited, offering 32GB storage and Wi-Fi 5. While fine for casual streaming, heavy users or gamers may notice slower load times and less future-proof connectivity compared with Apple TV 4K. Smart features and ecosystem This section might clear all your confusion. The Google TV Streamer shines with a content-rich interface and plenty of free streaming options. It integrates well with Google Home and Gemini AI, offering smart voice search, personalised recommendations, and enhanced smart home controls. On the flipside, the Apple TV 4K focuses on a clean, ad-free experience. It works seamlessly with iPhones, iPads, and Apple Music, and adds fun features like Music Sing karaoke. One limitation is that its AI-driven smart functionalities remain limited compared to Google TV. Features comparison for better understanding: Apple TV 4K vs Google TV Feature Google TV Streamer Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen) Design White, curved, modern Black, minimalistic, blends in Remote Google Assistant, app shortcuts, 'find my remote' Siri Remote, touch clickpad, voice control Cable Management Easy to hide wires Standard setup Resolution 4K Ultra HD 4K Ultra HD HDR Support Dolby Vision, HDR10+ Dolby Vision, HDR10+ Audio Dolby Atmos Dolby Atmos Storage 32GB 64GB / 128GB Wi-Fi Wi-Fi 5 Wi-Fi 6 Performance Smooth for casual use Fast app loading, smooth multitasking Interface Content-rich, personalised recommendations Clean, ad-free, Apple ecosystem Smart Features Google Home, Gemini AI, voice search Music Sing karaoke, integrates with iPhones/iPads Which one should you buy: Apple TV 4K or Google TV Both devices bring excellent performance to your living room, but your choice depends on priorities. If you want a budget-friendly option loaded with features and smart integration, the Google TV Streamer is the better pick. If you are already invested in the Apple ecosystem and prefer faster speeds, higher storage, and an ad-free experience, then the Apple TV 4K is worth the extra cost.

Lumio Arc 5 projector review: At ₹19,999, this is a ‘smart TV' on-the-go
Projectors have become a quiet alternative to TVs, and the Lumio Arc 5 steps in as a compact, mid-range option for those who want smart features without a bulky setup. It's easy to like at first glance, but it does ask for a few compromises. At just 1.33 kg and roughly 112 × 142 × 185 mm, the Arc 5 feels almost toy-like in its portability, yet it carries enough substance to handle a bedroom cinema setup or a weekend binge in a guest room. I found it effortless to move between spaces, and its plug-and-play approach makes it almost worry-free. Lumio Arc 5 projector offers Full HD 1080p with HDR10 for crisp visuals. The projector runs on a MediaTek 9630 processor with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage, powering a responsive smart interface. Google TV is built-in, Netflix-certified, and it comes preloaded with YouTube and a range of other apps. The Minion Noir remote is surprisingly practical, giving one-touch access to Netflix, YouTube, Google Assistant, and even sports and music dashboards. For anyone used to juggling streaming sticks, this simplicity is a welcome touch. Lumio promises native Full HD 1080p with HDR10 and can project up to 100 inches. The 200 ANSI lumens brightness is respectable for darker rooms, but it won't compete with daylight or well-lit living areas. I noticed that in brighter settings, the image can look flat, lacking the vibrancy and pop of an LED TV or higher-lumen projector. In darkened rooms, though, it holds up well with crisp detail and decent contrast. The ArcLight Engine and sealed optics keep dust away, while the integrated ToF sensor handles autofocus, auto-keystone, and obstacle avoidance through the STR8 system. It works smoothly most of the time, but there's a slight learning curve. Menus and app switches aren't instantaneous, so you'll spend a few extra seconds navigating compared to a TV or tablet. It's not frustrating, just something to adjust to. The single 5W speaker with Dolby Audio and dual passive radiators punches above its weight in small rooms, offering clear mids and reasonable bass. For immersive movie nights or action sequences, however, you'll miss the depth and power that separate speakers or TVs deliver. Lumio Arc 5 projector At ₹ 19,999, the Arc 5 is one of the more affordable smart projectors in India. Lumio backs it with a one-year warranty and a nationwide service network, which adds reassurance. The Lumio Arc 5 works best for those who value portability and built-in smart features over raw power. Its compact design, Google TV integration, and approachable price make it an attractive option. Brightness limitations, a slightly sluggish interface, and modest audio mean it won't replace a home theatre for anyone chasing perfection.
