Construction of capital city is nothing but restoration of AP's pride, says CM Naidu
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has urged the full strength of the TDP, JSP, and BJP cadres to actively participate in the grand relaunch of Amaravati's capital development works, to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 2.
In a teleconference held on Wednesday with MPs, MLAs, senior party leaders, and booth-level workers, Naidu described the occasion as a 'historic moment' in Andhra Pradesh's development journey. 'This is not just about Amaravati, it is about restoring pride, growth, and governance to our State,' he said.
PM Modi will lay the foundation stones for projects worth Rs 49,040 crore in Amaravati and an additional Rs 57,962 crore for national-level works linked to Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and Indian Railways, Naidu announced.
Attributing the NDA's 93% success rate in the elections to the public's faith in its promises, Naidu said the government, despite financial constraints, has delivered on welfare and development initiatives over the last 10 months. He also reaffirmed that the Polavaram project will be completed by 2027 and highlighted major investments, including TCS in Visakhapatnam and Rs 5,000 crore by LG at Sri City.
The Chief Minister said AP is now attracting record-high investments and has launched the Swarnandhra Vision 2047, aimed at decentralised, inclusive development. He refuted allegations of land being undervalued in Visakhapatnam, terming them part of a false narrative propagated by the previous YSRCP government. 'They looted the State through wine, mine, sand, and land,' he remarked.

'Tragedy calls for introspection': Naidu vows reforms after Air India crash
Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Saturday (June 14) expressed deep sorrow over the crash of Air India Flight AI171 and assured the nation that the government "would leave no stone unturned in uncovering the causes and ensuring long-term aviation safety reforms". Addressing a press conference at Udaan Bhawan, New Delhi, alongside Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol, Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and senior officials, Naidu said the incident had 'shaken the entire nation,' and stressed that the loss of young lives — many of them students — was 'heartbreaking beyond words'. 'I myself lost my father in an accident. I understand what these families are going through,' said the Minister. 'This is not just a technical event. It's a humanitarian tragedy. The government's priority is to provide every form of assistance possible.' "India's aviation safety systems are among the world's best, as recognised by the ICAO,' Naidu reiterated. 'But this tragedy calls for honest introspection. We will ensure meaningful reform, not just reassurances.' Ahmedabad plane crash: Support to affected families The minister announced a series of directives issued to Air India to support families of victims and the injured. These include: Immediate disbursement of ex gratia compensation Logistical and emotional support to next of kin Deployment of senior Air India personnel for family assistance A dedicated support cell at Gatwick Airport for British nationals and their families Help with travel arrangements, medical documentation, and hospital coordination Naidu stressed that the government's approach would prioritise 'compassion, dignity and respect' for the deceased and their families. Ahmedabad plane crash: Emergency measures and coordination Soon after the crash on June 12, a 24X7 control room was activated at the Ministry's headquarters, staffed by officials from DGCA, BCAS, CISF and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). A parallel media control room was also set up at the National Media Centre to ensure streamlined information dissemination. Helplines were activated to support victims' families, including: Ahmedabad Airport Emergency Helpline: 9974111327 MoCA Control Room: 011-24610843 / 9650391859 Air India Passenger Helpline: 1800-5691-444 Senior officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), DGCA, Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), AAI and BCAS reached the crash site within hours to coordinate rescue and relief operations. Ahmedabad plane crash: Investigations and black box recovery The AAIB launched a formal investigation the same day, dispatching a five-member GO Team led by the Director General. The team has since been reinforced with forensic and medical experts. In a significant development, the aircraft's black box was recovered on June 13 around 5 pm. 'This will provide critical insight into what happened during the flight's final moments,' said the minister. To conduct a broader inquiry, the government has constituted a high-level committee under the Union Home Secretary. This independent panel will include representatives from: Ministry of Civil Aviation Ministry of Home Affairs Government of Gujarat DGCA, BCAS, Indian Air Force, Intelligence Bureau State Disaster Response Authority National and state-level forensic experts Key objectives of the committee include: Examining the crash from technical, operational and regulatory perspectives Identifying systemic and institutional gaps Recommending long-term reforms to aviation safety systems, emergency protocols, crew training and air traffic management The committee will submit its report within three months. Deliberations are scheduled to begin on Monday (June 16). Ahmedabad plane crash: Technical inspections and oversight The DGCA has directed Air India to conduct immediate inspections of all Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft fitted with Genx engines. Of the 33 Dreamliners in service with Indian carriers, eight have already been checked. The rest are being inspected on a priority basis. Meanwhile, DGCA has intensified surveillance of maintenance and airworthiness protocols for all wide-body aircraft in the country. Besides, the Ministry has also urged the public and media to avoid speculation and rely only on verified information. 'We will ensure transparency. The focus is to get to the truth and deliver justice,' the Minister said.

Baby calls for detoxification of society from fascist ideals propagated by RSS
Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] general secretary M.A. Baby has observed that while politically defeating the fascist Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-controlled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is important, even more important is defeating their fake cultural nationalism project through which they are invading people's minds. He was speaking after releasing the Malayalam translation of the book, Being Muslim in Hindu India written by Ziya Us Salam, Associate Editor of The Hindu, here on Saturday (June 14, 2025). 'What is needed parallel to a political fight is a cultural fight by democratic and secular forces to detoxify people's minds of fascist ideals. Otherwise, even if the BJP is electorally defeated in the future, the RSS will continue to work in Indian society,' Mr. Baby said. 'The electoral setback suffered by the BJP in last year's general elections is a lesson that attempts by the Modi-led neo-fascist, majoritarian forces to set up a Hindu State with the backing of the corporate and the neo-rich can be effectively resisted by democratic and secular forces, if they so desire. However, whether the political parties, which are supposed to learn lessons from that, are acting accordingly remains a question,' he said. Mr. Baby said that Modi, whose party lost its majority in the last general elections and now relies on two crutches — the Janata Dal (United) and the Telugu Desam Party — is trying to win back popular support by politically exploiting the post-Pahalgam scenario, just as he did before the 2019 general elections. He bemoaned the 'othering' based on religion and caste in the country, citing the denial of passage to Mr. Salam over a mere misspelling in his air ticket as an example. Mahayuti govt to form committee on waiving farm loans after Kadu's hunger strike; opposition slams delay
MUMBAI: The Mahayuti government in Maharashtra has decided to constitute a committee to execute the decision of waiving farm loans. Prahar Sangthan leader and former minister Bacchu Kadu was on a hunger strike for the last seven days to press the demand of farm loan waiver. He said that during the assembly elections, the BJP-led Mahayuti had given the promise of farm loan waiver, but now they are dilly-dallying over it. Kadu said that after his hunger strike, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called him and assured him that farm loans would be waived. However, the Chief Minister requested more time to study the issue, saying the state government is forming a committee. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena minister Uday Samant rushed to Amarawati to break Kadu's hunger strike by offering lime juice and handed over a letter promising the waiver of farm loans. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the government is committed to waiving farm loans, but they need time to study and finalise the matter. He said that the Mahayuti government has already started various welfare schemes for farmers. 'Once we receive the committee report, we will start the farm loan waiver scheme in the state,' said Shinde. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that Kadu will also be part of the proposed farm loan waiver committee. Kadu said that if the Mahayuti government tries to betray the farmers, they will barge into Mantralaya and carry out protests on a large scale. Opposition leaders slammed the Mahayuti government for its announcement of forming a committee to waive farm loans. Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar questioned why the Mahayuti needs to form a committee as they are in power and can make an announcement right away. He said that when the Maha Vikas Aghadi was in power, they waived farmers' loan without any delay and without any terms and conditions. Senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat said that farm loans should be waived without any ifs and buts. It should be a complete loan waiver as only then will farmers get real relief, he added.
