The frightening incidents saw three men prey on two separate male victims in a park area next to the River Kelvin in 2003.
A 22-year-old man was first approached by the three men who physically and sexually assaulted him late on Saturday, September 2003.
Around two hours later, in the early hours of Sunday, 14 September, 2003, a 25-year-old man was also physically and sexually assaulted by three men.
Over two decades on police yesterday arrested 65-year-old old man who was charged in connection with both incidents. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Detectives say the investigation is still ongoing to identify and trace the two other male suspects.
They have also appealed to any victims who suffered a similar attack to come forward and report it to the police, echoing the appeal shared by Strathclyde Police in 2003.

Detective Inspector John Dowds said: 'These incidents were frightening and distressing for the victims who have had to wait over 20 years for someone to be arrested in connection with what happened.
'Time really is no barrier to a police investigation. We are committed to exploring all lines of enquiry and using advancements in forensics to ensure suspects are identified.
'At the time of these incidents my counterpart in Strathclyde Police appealed for anyone who may have been the victim of a similar attack to come forward and report it to police. I would echo this message today; anyone who has concerns should come forward and speak to officers, be assured you will be listened to and taken seriously.'

Church fire 'deliberate' as Kirk Moderator visits remains amid police probe

"Following this awful fire, so much will be on hold, time will be needed to grieve, to re-think, to re-imagine, to seek God's guidance." The fire which tore apart a Church of Scotland building hailed as an iconic landmark is being treated as deliberate by police. The B-listed St Mungo's Church at St Mungo's Road in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, was deliberately torched by a firebug on Saturday evening. The blaze broke out at around 7.50pm, with no injuries reported. ‌ Nearby roads which were closed in the aftermath have since reopened, but the footpath around the church remains shut. Police are now appealing to the public for information in a bid to catch the firestarter. ‌ Detective Sergeant Craig Jeffrey said: "Enquiries so far have established the fire was deliberate. We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything to contact us. We'd also ask anyone with footage of the area at the time to please come forward." ‌ The appeal came as the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland visited the ruins of the iconic church. The Kirk said the building had been "destroyed by fire" and Rt Rev Rosie Frew's visit was so she could "stand in solidarity and support the devastated congregation". She stood shoulder to shoulder with visibly upset members of the church on Wednesday, August 6, as they surveyed the wreckage of what was an iconic landmark at the heart of the town. Struggling to contain her own tears, she said they are "grieving" the loss of a beloved gathering place and the thoughts and prayers of the wider Church of Scotland family were with them. ‌ With its pyramid shaped roof, the B-listed building in the town centre was deemed an important landmark since it was built in the 1960s, designed by notable Scottish architect Alan Reiach. Emergency services unfortunately could not save it. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. Speaking outside what is left of the building, Mrs Frew said: "How often do we hear it said and sung that the 'church is not a building, the church is a people?' But people need a gathering place and this has been your gathering place since 1966. A building described as iconic, a landmark – a building that holds a special place in the lives and the memories of so many." ‌ St Mungo's Church is now part of Trinity Parish Church, a union formed from Cumbernauld Old Church and Kildrum and St Mungo's churches on 15 August, 2024. Mrs Frew said: "I'm conscious that there has been much change in recent times with the coming together of the churches that make up Cumbernauld Trinity. "I've read of your plans and hopes and dreams, the St Mungo's Hub was, is, a big part of your vision for the future. Following this awful fire, so much will be on hold, time will be needed to grieve, to re-think, to re-imagine, to seek God's guidance. You are very much in the thoughts and prayers of members and congregations across the Church of Scotland." ‌ Mrs Frew led those gathered, including Rev Dr Grant Barclay, Clerk to the Presbytery of Glasgow, and her chaplain Rev Dr Karen K Campbell, in prayer. Morag Rusk, the Session Clerk of Cumbernauld Trinity Church and previously Session Clerk of St Mungo's Parish Church, said: "I was alerted just after 8pm by a member of the congregation who was hysterical and told me 'St Mungo's is on fire'. "I immediately went up to the church and just stood looking at the scene for an hour or two with people from the congregation. We are absolutely devastated and still coming to terms with it. It is such a well-loved and unique building for the congregation and people in the town. ‌ "It was an iconic landmark for Cumbernauld and the pyramid tower be seen as you drive into the town from whatever direction, Glasgow, Airdrie and Falkirk. "We have to get through our grief but we hope to honour this special place and recreate something in its memory as there is so much history for people – the scene of so many funerals, weddings and family events. "You can see from the huge outpouring of shock and sadness in the community that it is such a loved building." ‌ Rev Alastair Duncan, Interim Moderator of Cumbernauld Trinity Church, said he felt "deep sadness". He added: "St Mungo's was a place that has seen many, many important occasions for 60 years so it's just deeply, deeply distressing and devastating for the congregation." Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 3110 of Saturday, 2 August, 2025. Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Five more people charged after angry mob clash with police in 'beast' street protest

Police say they are aware of another gathering planned for Friday and are encouraging people not to engage in anti-social behaviour after Sunday's scenes. A further five people have been charged after an angry mob clashed with police during a protest in Fife. A large crowd of around 100 people gathered at Pirnie Street in Methilhill on Sunday, August 3, with some chanting and others holding placards displaying messages such as "No place 4 a beast". Police were called to the area and surrounding roads had to be closed off before a disturbance broke out with eggs and stones thrown at officers. Specially trained public order officers were drafted in however no-one required hospital treatment. Four males aged, 14, 15, 17 and 23 and a female aged 16 have been charged in connection with public order related offences. The five will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal. It comes after three men, aged 22, 38 and 47 and two females aged 36 and 15 were previously charged in connection with disorder. Police also said in a statement they were aware of another planned gathering expected to take place on Friday, August 8. Members of the public have been encouraged by the force not to engage in anti-social behaviour or disorder. Chief Inspector Craig Fraser said: 'The violence officers experienced while carrying out their duties was unacceptable and we would encourage people not to engage in further disorder. "We understand there are strong feelings in the local area but that is no excuse for violence or disorder. "We are particularly concerned with the number of children who have been present. 'Our enquiries into these gatherings are ongoing as we work to identify further individuals involved in this incident. 'Anyone taking part on disorder or inciting or encouraging others to be involved should expect to be identified and charged accordingly.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Driver caught doing 'record' speed on Germany's autobahn at 124mph over the limit

The motorist was snared by police on a stretch of the road with a 75mph limit and was doing almost three times that speed Police in Germany caught a driver on the autobahn doing 199mph (320kph) which was a staggering 124mph over the road's speed limit. The motorist was snared on a highway near to Berlin last month. ‌ The Porsche driver was said to be motoring at close to three times the speed limit for that stretch of the road before being caught in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt, west of Berlin. Their name and age have not been released. ‌ German authorities said they issued a €900 (£785) fine and a three-month suspension of their licence. And the driver also had two points added from their licence. ‌ If you rack up eight points in Germany, you can have your licence permanently revoked. As per the Independent, the speeding motorist was caught by a roadside radar stand which is known as a 'Enforcement Trailer' on the A2 highway near Burg on July 28. And a reading from its display reportedly showed 'the highest record speed' of 321kph, police said. Germany's autobahns, or motorways, are known for their lack of speed limit in places. However, there are some certain sections. The speed limits tend to be in areas with more traffic congestion. ‌ Autobahns can also introduce limits when roadworks are in place. The speeder was caught in an area with a 75mph (120km/h) limit. The lack of consistent speed limits on the autobahns has been the subject of debate over the years with authorities and driving clubs airing their views on whether they should be limited. ‌ A poll in 2019 found that around half of Germans were opposed to speed restrictions on their highways. Around a third of the autobahn network does have an upper limit of 81 mph (130kph), roughly 8,000 miles of road. But an eighth has no limit and is derestricted, according to Green Flag. Green Flag say: "One moment you may see a wide open space in your rear mirror and pull out to overtake. The next there is an irate driver flashing his lights for you to move over." Where there are speed limits, it is to regulate noise near urban centres and reduce safety risks on roads deemed unfit for unlimited speeding. In 2019, a poll found roughly half of Germans remain opposed to autobahn speed limits. ‌ To combat excessive speeds on the autobahn, major German car manufacturers, except for Porsche, are said to follow a gentleman's agreement and limit the top speeds of their powerful cars. However, these limiters can be deactivated. Slower vehicles with a top speed of less than 60mph are banned from using the road network. Scooters and motorbikes with low engine capacity cannot use the autobahns either.
