Espionage case: YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra's judicial custody extended by two weeks

Time of India4 hours ago

A court here on Monday extended the
judicial custody
by 14 days of
social media influencer
Jyoti Malhotra arrested last month on the suspicion of espionage.
The Hisar Police arrested Malhotra, who ran a YouTube channel 'Travel with JO', on the suspicion of espionage on May 16. Hailing from Hisar, the Youtuber was arrested at the New Aggarsain Extension and booked under provisions of the
Official Secrets Act
and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Malhotra's lawyer Kumar Mukesh said, "Her judicial remand has been further extended by 14 days and the next date of hearing has been fixed by the court on July 7."
The 33-year-old YouTuber appeared before the court through video-conferencing, he said.
Earlier on June 9, another court here had rejected her regular bail plea.
Live Events
Police had opposed the bail and argued that the investigation in this case was still going on.
After her arrest on May 16, Malhotra was remanded to five days of police custody by the court.
Following the completion of the remand, the court extended the custody by four more days after the police sought to question her further.
On May 26, the court remanded her to judicial custody for 14 days, which was further extended later.
The Hisar Police previously said no evidence had emerged to indicate Malhotra had access to any military or defence-related information but claimed she was in contact with some people, aware that they were Pakistani intelligence operatives.
Police sources had previously said she was in touch with
Ehsan-ur-Rahim
alias Danish, a staffer at the Pakistani High Commission, since November 2023.
India expelled Danish on May 13 for allegedly indulging in espionage.
Police had last month claimed that Pakistani intelligence operatives were developing Malhotra as an "asset".

Gathered a substantial body of evidence on identity of Pahalgam attackers: NIA

NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday said it has gathered substantial body of evidence regarding the identities of three Pakistani terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack based on testimonies from witnesses, video footages, technical evidence and even the sketches earlier released by Jammu and Kashmir Police. Soldiers patrol near Pahalgam in Anantnag, south of Srinagar on 23 April (HT File Photo/Waseem Andrabi) It, however, refused to name the three Pakistani terrorists saying their identities and other details will be shared at an 'appropriate time'. The agency added that media reports or social media posts regarding the identifies and sketches of terrorists are 'speculative' and 'therefore of misleading nature'. Two Pahalgam residents, Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar, who are accused of harbouring the Pakistani attackers and providing them with food, have been remanded in NIA custody for five days. 'The NIA has gathered a substantial body of evidence regarding the identities of the terrorists. This includes eyewitness accounts from victims, video footages, technical evidence, and the sketches released by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. All this evidence is being carefully analysed and NIA has not reached any conclusions at this stage,' said the NIA in a statement on Monday. 'The NIA assures that the investigation is being carried out with the highest standards of professionalism, and all aspects of the terror attack are being thoroughly examined. The identities and further details of the terrorists will be made public at an appropriate time,' it added. 'It is reiterated that, as stated in the official press release dated 22 June 2025, two accused persons have been arrested in connection with the attack. During their interrogation, they have disclosed details about the identities of the three armed terrorists involved,' the statement said. On Sunday, the agency said Parvaiz and Bashir knowingly harboured the three armed terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) at Hill Park before the attack. 'The two men had provided food, shelter and logistical support to the terrorists who selectively killed the tourists on the basis of their religious identity,' it said on Sunday. The anti-terror agency also said that the three terrorists involved in the attack were Pakistani nationals affiliated to the proscribed terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The Resistance Front, a proxy group for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba organisation, had claimed responsibility for the attack. Indian agencies say the group is a front used by Pakistan to avoid international sanctions. As first reported by HT on April 24, intelligence agencies traced the attack's digital communications to safe houses in Muzaffarabad and Karachi, establishing Pakistani involvement in what officials described as similar to the control room-operated 2008 Mumbai attacks. India responded with Operation Sindoor on May 7, bombing nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in pre-dawn strikes that killed at least 100 terrorists. The operation sparked four days of cross-border fighting involving fighter jets, missiles and artillery.

India slams OIC for 'unwarranted' references to it

India on Monday slammed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation ( OIC ) for making "unwarranted" and "factually incorrect" references to it while coming under influence of Pakistan , which turned terrorism into "statecraft". India's strong reactions came after a two-day foreign ministerial conclave of the OIC in Turkiye criticised New Delhi on a range of issues including what it said is "social marginalisation" of Indian Muslims. The OIC also called for strict adherence to bilateral pacts between India and Pakistan, including the Indus Waters Treaty and stressed the need for a broad-based dialogue for peaceful settlement of all outstanding disputes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Chi phí cấy ghép răng là bao nhiêu vào năm 2025 (kiểm tra giá) Cấy ghép răng | Quảng cáo tìm kiếm Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "India categorically rejects the unwarranted and factually incorrect references to India at the OIC council of foreign ministers' meeting," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement. "These statements, driven by Pakistan, which has turned terrorism into statecraft, reflect the continued misuse of the OIC platform for narrow political ends," it said. Live Events The MEA said the OIC's repeated "failure" to acknowledge the real and documented threat of terrorism emanating from Pakistan, most recently evidenced in the heinous Pahalgam attack , reflects a "wilful disregard" for facts. It said "the OIC has no locus standi to comment on India's internal affairs, including Jammu and Kashmir , which is an integral and sovereign part of India -- a fact enshrined in the Indian Constitution and irreversibly settled." "The OIC should reflect deeply on the perils of allowing Pakistan's propaganda to hijack and politicise its agenda. Any other course can only undermine the OIC's credibility and relevance," the MEA said. It said India also "outrightly rejects" Pakistan's baseless allegation of "unprovoked and unjustified military aggression". "India's Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack was a precise and legitimate act of self-defence against terrorist camps operating from Pakistani territory," the MEA said. "It is absurd for Pakistan to speak of targeting only Indian military installations when its retaliatory attempts not only failed but recklessly endangered civilian lives and property and ended up causing several deaths and injuries among the civilian population. "It is also ironic that Pakistan, a country with an abysmal human rights record and a history of sheltering, breeding and empowering terrorists, should lecture others on counter-terrorism and human rights," it said. The MEA said the comments made by Pakistan at the OIC meeting are nothing more than a "desperate attempt" to deflect international attention from its own appalling record of "state-sponsored terrorism, minority persecution and sectarian violence, apart from failure of governance".

India slams OIC for its unwarranted and factually incorrect references

New Delhi, June 23 (UNI) India on Monday slammed the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its 'unwarranted and factually incorrect' references at the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers' Meeting and said these statements, driven by Pakistan which has turned terrorism into statecraft, reflect the continued misuse of the OIC platform for narrow political ends. The External Affairs Ministry, while outright rejecting the 57-member OIC's references to India's internal matters, said the OIC's repeated failure to acknowledge the real and documented threat of terrorism emanating from Pakistan, most recently evidenced in the heinous Pahalgam attack, reflects a wilful disregard for facts and the global consensus on the fight against terrorism. 'The OIC has no locus standi to comment on India's internal affairs, including Jammu and Kashmir, which is an integral and sovereign part of India — a fact enshrined in the Indian Constitution and irreversibly settled,' the Ministry said in a statement. It said the OIC should reflect deeply on the perils of allowing Pakistan's propaganda to hijack and politicise its agenda. Any other course can only undermine the OIC's credibility and relevance. The OIC had in its Istanbul Declaration adopted during the two-day 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, renewed solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
