Meta AI introduces generative video editing for creativity
Meta AI is unveiling a generative AI video editing feature, now available in the Meta AI app, the Meta.AI website, and the Edits app allowing for users to enhance short-form videos, according to a press release by the company on Thursday.
Through a selection of preset AI prompts, it is offering transforming elements like outfits, locations, and lighting with a simple tap.
Inspired by Meta's Movie Gen models, this release marks the first step in expanding AI-driven video generation across Meta's platforms, added the press releas.
Later this year, users will have the ability to customize edits through their own text prompts.

Meta AI's video editing feature will enables users to create high-quality edits without prior expertise. After uploading a video to the Meta AI app, Meta.AI web, or Edits app, users will be able to choose from over 50 preset editing prompts. For a limited time, users will be able to experiment with 10-second transformations at no cost.
Edited videos will be able to be shared directly onto Meta platforms –Facebook and Instagram – directly from the Meta AI and Edits apps, or posted to the Discover feed via the Meta.AI website.
Earlier it was reported that Meta Platforms was in talks to make an investment that could exceed $10 billion in artificial intelligence startup Scale AI, according to Bloomberg, although no further details were reported.

PARIS: American tech heavyweight Google on Friday reiterated its opposition to verifying the age of a device's user through the app stores built into operating systems, calling a proposal from Facebook and Instagram parent Meta 'ineffective'. Limiting access to age-restricted content online is a live issue in Europe, with France battling pornography sites over its newly-introduced requirement that they check users' ages. Paris is also one of several capitals pressing Brussels to introduce Europe-wide regulations cutting off access to social networks for under-15s over concerns including addiction, cyberbullying and hate speech. Basing age verification on details from a device's app store 'would require the sharing of granular age band data with millions of developers… who don't need it', such as producers of uncontroversial apps like flashlights, Google wrote in a blog post. 'We have strong concerns about the risks this 'solution' would pose to children,' it added. The search giant's Play Store is a part of the Android operating system, by far the most widely-used around the globe. Google said that using app store data to verify ages would also leave major ways people access content online unprotected for the underage, such as desktop computers or shared family devices. Google says to buy cybersecurity company Wiz for $32bn Apple – whose own App Store is loaded on every device running its iOS operating system, such as iPhones and iPads – has also pushed back against Meta's proposal. 'The right place to address the dangers of age-restricted content online is the limited set of websites and apps that host that content,' the iPhone maker said in a February document. 'Implementing age verification at the operating system or app store level will help ensure that we create an ecosystem that's safe for teens,' the Facebook owner's safety chief Antigone Davis told Euronews in February. Meta has sinced launched a campaign for European regulation to require the measure. Europe's Digital Services Act (DSA), which came into force last year, says it is up to platforms like Meta's to verify the age of their users – not providers of operating systems or app stores. Google said that changing to the latter system – which has also been pushed by Pornhub parent company Aylo – would mean 'reengineering the protocols that have defined the decentralized web in ways that are hard to fully predict'.

Meta finalizes $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI, sources say, poaching CEO Wang
Facebook-owner Meta has finalized the $14.3 billion purchase of a 49% stake in data-labeling startup Scale AI, according to two sources familiar with the matter. Scale said late on Thursday that the deal values it at $29 billion and its CEO Alexandr Wang will join Meta to play a prominent role in the Facebook owner's AI strategy. Scale's chief strategy officer, Jason Droege, will serve as its interim CEO, Scale AI said. The company did not respond to a request for additional information on the financial details of the transaction. Scale was valued at nearly $14 billion in a May 2024 funding round where the company raised $1 billion from backers including tech giants Nvidia, Amazon and Meta. Founded in 2016, Scale AI provides vast amounts of accurately labeled data, which is pivotal for training sophisticated tools like OpenAI's ChatGPT. To do so, Scale set up subsidiary platforms such as Remotasks and Outlier to recruit and manage gig workers who manually label the data. Wang, the 28-year-old co-founder, has steered the company to provide data labeling services across the buzzy tech sectors of the moment, from autonomous vehicles several years ago to generative AI today.
