Maharashtra cabinet decides to double honorarium for persons imprisoned during Emergency
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 17 (ANI): The Maharashtra cabinet has decided to double the honorarium provided by the state government to those imprisoned during the Emergency in 1975.
The cabinet also decided to provide the honorarium to the spouses of the imprisoned persons, which means that the surviving spouses would be the beneficiaries of the pension benefits. These decisions have been approved under the revised 'Gaurav Yojana,' which aims to honour the contributions of individuals from Maharashtra.
Currently, an honorarium ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 is provided as a pension benefit to people imprisoned during the Emergency. As per the cabinet, the honorarium amount will be twofold.
The cabinet meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also approved MahaKrishi-AI policy 2025-2029, which pushed for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in agricultural activities with a view that transformation can be achieved by using such emerging technologies in the agriculture sector.
Using AI, generative AI, drones, computer vision, robotics, and predictive analytics would help further projects in the state, such as Agri Stack, Mahaveda, CROPSAP, and Agmarknet.
Moreover, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will get 29 hectares 52 R land at Mauje Jambutke in Nashik district for the tribal industrial cluster. Emerging entrepreneurs from the tribal community will be encouraged, promoting employment generation and economic growth.
The cabinet decision, taken under the revenue department's ambit, approved the waiver of stamp duty on land required for the joint project of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and M/s Raigad Pen Growth Centre Ltd.
This is the first significant project in the state through public-private partnership (PPP), which is expected to attract foreign investment.
Stamp duty will be waived on the transfer of land required for Maharashtra National Law University at Pahadi Goregaon in Mumbai. The university will have its building with academic facilities for thousands of students.
The cabinet also decided to waive stamp duty on the lease agreement between a special purpose vehicle (SPV) and other agencies in the Dharavi redevelopment project. Since it is a major project in the public interest, the rehabilitation and redevelopment plan will gain momentum, and it will facilitate its implementation.
Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) will be set up at the Gram Panchayat level under the central government's WINDS (Weather Information Network Data System) project. To this end, the cabinet has decided to extend the deadline for the Mahaveda project.
This project aims to provide accurate weather information to all the villages of the state. It is important for farmers to get weather-based agricultural advice and guidance.
The other cabinet decision includes the extension of loans from the Asian Development Bank and the New Development Bank for Mumbai Metro Route 2A, which connects Dahisar East to D N Nagar, and Route 2B, which connects DN Nagar to Mandale.
The Virar-Alibaug Multipurpose Transport Corridor project has been approved and will be taken up on a 'Build, Operate and Transfer' (BOP) basis.
The cabinet also approved a change in the definition of non-resident Indian (NRI) for admission in courses in non-aided private professional educational institutions. This means that children and dependents of NRIs will be admitted to professional courses. This decision prompts an amendment to the Admission and Fee Regulation Act of 2015. (ANI)

These threats are rising fast—70% saw cases double, 12% saw a threefold surge. These attacks are harder to detect. The fallout is costly: 56% suffered financial losses, 20% lost over $500,000, the report noted. Data theft (60%), trust erosion (50%), regulatory fines (46%), and operational disruptions (42%) are the other top business impacts. The threats are evolving. Are we? Only 14% of firms feel equipped to handle AI-driven threats, while 21% can't track them at all, notes IDC. Evolving AI threats call for AI-savvy governance, regular training, and simulations. Airtel, for instance, now uses AI to block spam and scam links in real time; Darktrace uses self-learning AI to detect threats without prior data. Cyber insurance must also cover reputational and regulatory risks.

‘India-Canada relations extremely important': PM Modi meets Mark Carney at G7 summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada on Tuesday night (local time). Modi said relations between India and Canada are 'extremely important' and the two leaders look forward to working closely to add momentum to the friendship. This was the first meeting between the two leaders since Carney assumed office in May 2025. 'I believe that India-Canada relations are extremely important, and India and Canada should work together and achieve win-win cooperation in several areas,' PM Modi said in his remarks ahead of the bilateral meeting. Modi complimented Canadian PM Carney on the successful hosting of the summit and expressed his enthusiasm for strengthening India-Canada relations and emphasised the shared commitment to democracy, freedom, and the rule of law that binds India and Canada together. "Had an excellent meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney. Complimented him and the Canadian Government for successfully hosting the G7 Summit. India and Canada are connected by a strong belief in democracy, freedom and rule of law. PM Carney and I look forward to working closely to add momentum to the India-Canada friendship. Consumer court orders BDA to refund Rs 8 lakh for delay in handing over flat
Bengaluru: The IV Addl District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to refund Rs 8.03 lakh, with 18% interest, to a Marathahalli resident here, who waited for nine years for possession of a flat that BDA had promised to deliver in a year's time. On March 21, 2025, the Commission ordered BDA to refund Rs 8.03 lakh, along with an interest of 18% from the date the first payment was made, Rs 1 lakh for service deficiency, Rs 25,000 for mental agony, and another Rs 10,000 in litigation costs. The complainant, Suryaprakash H R, 70, had booked a 1BHK flat at Gunjur village under the housing scheme for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) on March 7, 2014, making an initial payment of Rs 1.12 lakh. According to Suryaprakash, BDA had allotted him a 1BHK flat in Gunjur through draw of lots, and On December 3, 2014, he was told to pay the remaining amount of Rs 7.87 lakh within six months. To fulfil this, Suryaprakash took out a housing loan of Rs 8 lakh, which was released to BDA in four instalments. Construction halted midway When Suryaprakash visited the project site in 2016, he found only the first and second floors had been built, with no further progress. On December 22, 2016, he wrote to the chief minister, who in turn directed the BDA commissioner to act. A letter from BDA's chief engineer confirmed that construction had been entrusted to Deepak Cable India Ltd., but due to non-completion, the contract was cancelled and re-tendered. As the delays dragged on, Suryaprakash and other EWS allottees staged a hunger strike in front of the Gunjur BDA project. On January 5, 2019, they submitted a joint representation to BDA and again approached the CM on June 15, 2019. The CMO yet again forwarded the complaint to the BDA commissioner, but work remained incomplete. Frustrated with his runs from pillar to post, on Jan 28, 2023, Suryaprakash issued a legal notice to BDA, followed by a representation to the deputy CM on October 26, 2023. The BDA deputy secretary replied on April 3, 2024, acknowledging receipt of Rs 4.73 lakh, but alleging that Rs 3.13 lakh was due. Suryaprakash countered the claim, saying he had already paid 95% of the sale amount. On June 13, 2024, he finally filed a consumer complaint, seeking a full refund. Unjustified act The BDA's legal counsel contested the claim, saying Rs 1.16 lakh was still due, and that possession was withheld because of that. The Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission observed that the elderly complainant was a valid allottee who had paid 95% of the flat cost by August 2015. Rejecting BDA's claim that possession was withheld due to the pending amount, the consumer court observed that it did not justify the delay, and ruled that BDA had failed to provide proper civic amenities, parking facility, and sanitary connections at the Gunjur project, making the residential units uninhabitable.
