
Nitin Gadkari Flags Off National Organ Donation Drive at GICA 2025, Honours 21 Global Indian Achievers
New Delhi [India], August 6: The prestigious Global Indians Conclave & Awards (GICA) 2025, an initiative by I Am Still Human NGO, concluded with great enthusiasm and impact on 5th August 2025 at Shangri-La Eros, New Delhi. The event brought together distinguished leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, and changemakers from across India and abroad.
The highlight of the event was the launch of a nationwide Organ Donation Awareness Campaign, inspired by Nitin Gadkari's vision shared at GICA's last edition. Over 551 pledges have already been secured, and the initiative--supported by strategic partners like Micron Group--aims to mobilize 11,000 organ donation pledges by August 2026. A dedicated registration desk was also set up at the venue to invite real-time participation from attendees.

1,240 National Highway Projects Worth Rs 7.8 Lakh Crore Underway: Nitin Gadkari
New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said 1,240 national highways projects in 29,406 km, costing Rs 7.80 lakh crore, are currently under construction in the country, of which 15,674 km have been completed. These projects are under various stages of construction and are scheduled for completion in a phased manner by the financial year 2028-29, Gadkari said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha. The ministry of road transport and highways is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of National Highways (NHs) and Expressways. Responding to a separate question, the minister said that during the current Financial Year 2025-26, the government has prepared the annual plan for the development of about 19,555 km of NHs, including about 548 km in the State of West Bengal. He also said a total of 4,557 electric vehicle Public Charging Stations (PCSs) have been installed on the State/National Highways and Expressways in the country. The minister said the government has prioritised the maintenance of the existing national highways network and has evolved a mechanism to ensure maintenance and repair (M&R), including timely repair of potholes on all NHs, through accountable maintenance agencies. NHs' development projects are executed mainly in three modes-- Build-Operate and Transfer (BOT), Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC). Concession period, including maintenance for projects on Build-Operate and Transfer (BOT), is 15 to 20 years, and on Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) is generally 15 years. The Concessionaire is responsible for the maintenance of the respective NH stretches within the concession period of the project. Only in the case of EPC projects, the Defect Liability period (DLP) is 5 years for the bituminous pavement works and 10 years for concrete pavement works.

Now, pay more for affidavits; stamp duty rates revised
Bhopal: Agreements for leasing out property or affidavits from the notary for renewing firearms licence and other services is going to cost more. The Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday passed the Indian Stamp (Madhya Pradesh Amendment) Bill, 2025 that proposes a steep hike in stamp duty for all judicial and non-judicial purposes. The passage of the bill is likely to help the state in mopping up an additional Rs 212 crore annually from the people. Opposition Congress MLAs strongly criticised the bill stating it would burden the common man. With the new Bill rates of affidavit, immovable property agreement, development, construction or bond agreements, consent deed, corrections in already registered documents, renewal of revolver and pistol licenses, partnership deed, power of attorney and for property of trusts the increase has been made from 100% to 400%. Allegations and counter allegations were witnessed between the govt and opposition during the debate on the bill with the opposition strongly demanding its withdrawal stating it will hit the ordinary man. The opposition alleged that the govt is taking frequent loans citing need for state's development, while on the other hand it is putting additional financial burden on the common man. Stamp duties for the rest remain unchanged, the fiancé minister stated. The govt cleared eight bills by the end of the day. The assembly was adjourned sine die on Wednesday evening, two days earlier from the schedule of the monsoon session that was till August 8. In his closing remark the leader of opposition, Umang Singhar urged the govt to increase the MLA constituency development fund to Rs 5 crore so that MLAs can carry out development works in their constituencies. Currently, the MLA fund in MP is Rs 2.5 cr. The CM assured the LoP that the govt would seriously consider the proposal.
