Cabinet hails Amir's participation in GCC-ASEAN Summit
DOHA: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting at the Amiri Diwan.
Following the meeting, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi stated the following:
At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet hailed the participation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in the Second GCC-ASEAN Summit held on Tuesday, in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.
The Cabinet emphasized that HH the Amir's participation reflects the State of Qatar's commitment to strengthening partnerships and deepening the GCC-Asian cooperation across various fields, in a manner that serves the interests of people and supports joint efforts for development and peace.
Afterward, the Cabinet considered the topics on its agenda. It approved a draft Cabinet decision to amend the structure of certain administrative units within the Ministry of Labour and define their jurisdictions. This draft decision, prepared by the Ministry of Labour, aims to update responsibilities related to the formulation and development of nationalization policies, which are considered one of the main pillars for achieving workforce-related development goals.
The Cabinet also approved a draft basic contribution agreement between Qatar Fund for Development and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to support the regular resources of UNFPA.
Additionally, it approved a draft agreement between the State of Qatar and the United Nations regarding arrangements for the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption. A draft memorandum of understanding for political consultations on issues of mutual interest between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia was also approved.
The Cabinet was also briefed on the audited financial statements of the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority for the fiscal year ending Dec31, 2024, as well as the Authority's annual report for 2024.
The Cabinet's meeting concluded with a review of the 15th annual report on the activities and outcomes of the Qatar Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations for the year 2024, before the appropriate decision regarding the report was taken.

These include the freedom of movement and residence, the right to engage in economic and investment activities, and access to healthcare and education services without discrimination—all of which contribute to a shared sense of belonging and a unified Gulf identity. The campaign was officially announced during the 123rd meeting of the GCC Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee, held on Sunday in Kuwait. The meeting was chaired by Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment of the State of Kuwait Engineer Noora Sulaiman Al Fassam, with the attendance of their excellencies the ministers of finance and economy from the member states, along with the participation ofthe secretary-general of the GCC. The media campaign will run for six months across all GCC countries as part of a comprehensive media strategy aimed at reinforcing the concept of Gulf citizenship, showcasing the tangible achievements, and increasing awareness of the rights and opportunities available to citizens under the framework of comprehensive GCC cooperation.

Qatar joins GCC economic meeting in Kuwait
QNA DOHA Qatar took part in the 123rd Meeting of the Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held in the State of Kuwait on Sunday. Minister of Finance HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari chaired the State of Qatar's delegation at the meeting. The meeting reviewed the outcomes of the 84th Meeting of the Committee of Governors of Central Banks of the GCC Countries, the meetings of the GCC Customs Union Authority, and the 14th Meeting of the Committee of Heads and Directors of Tax Departments. Discussions also covered the amendment of the minimum specific duty on tobacco, the implications of increased United States customs tariffs, and the proposed allocations for judges of the Economic Judicial Authority. It further discussed the outcomes of the GCC Common Market Committee, along with a review of the GCC's engagement in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank meetings, in addition to the implementation document on the unified criteria for defining the national Gulf product, with particular emphasis on advancing economic integration, fostering innovation, and strengthening economic resilience in the face of common challenges. The Media Campaign on the GCC Common Market was launched on the margins of this meeting. It aims to raise public awareness, foster understanding of the unified Gulf market notion, and highlight the merits it offers to citizens and investors alike. These merits include freedom of movement and residency, property ownership, employment, investment, and equal treatment across a variety of economic sectors.

China warns US not to ‘play with fire' over Taiwan
BeijingcTypeface:> China has warned the United States against 'playing with fire' over Taiwan in response to US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth calling the Asian power a 'threat to the region' at a high-profile summit in Singapore. Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue on Saturday, Hegseth said China was 'credibly preparing' for military action to shift Asia's power balance, accusing Beijing of rehearsing a potential invasion of Taiwan. China considers Taiwan, a separately governed island, to be a part of its territory and has vowed reunification by force if necessary. Taiwan's government rejects Beijing's sovereignty claims, saying only the island's people can decide their future. Hegseth's remarks provoked a swift rebuke from China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which stressed that Taiwan remains a domestic matter, warning foreign powers against using the issue as leverage. It described US actions in Asia Pacific as turning the region into a 'powder keg'. 'The US should not entertain illusions about using the Taiwan question as a bargaining chip to contain China, nor should it play with fire,' it said. Hegseth had called on allies in the Asia Pacific region, including key security ally Australia, to spend more on defence after warning of the 'real and potentially imminent' threat from China. Calling the US a 'true destabilising' force in the Asia Pacific, Beijing accused Washington of deploying offensive weapons in the South China Sea and aggravating regional tensions. Beijing accused Hegseth of 'vilifying China with defamatory allegations' and promoting a 'Cold War mentality'. 'Hegseth deliberately ignored the call for peace and development by countries in the region, and instead touted the Cold War mentality for bloc confrontation, vilified China with defamatory allegations, and falsely called China a threat,' the ministry said.
