1 killed, 4 seriously injured in highway crash
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash on State Route 73 near Portsmouth Road, according to a release from OSHP.

One person was killed and four others seriously injured in a two vehicle crash in Adams County, OSHP said.

According to OSHP, a vehicle driven by Christopher Gilley, 43, with three passengers was traveling southbound on SR 73 when it crossed the center line and hit another vehicle driven by Daniel Hammonds.
Gilley was pronounced dead at the scene, according to OSHP. Hammonds and all of Gilley's passengers were transported with serious injuries to an area hospital, OSHP says.
According to OSHP, the crash is still under investigation.
The highway patrol was assisted by the Adams County Sheriff's Department, Franklin Township Fire Department, Peebles Fire Department, West Union EMS, Adams County EMS, Adams County Coroner's Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Larry's Towing and Barnett's Towing.

Three 'illegal aliens from Mexico' face charges following a methamphetamine lab bust in Cobb County. One is still on the run. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Juan Perez-Maldonado, Francisco Garcia Gomez and Filemon Hernandez-Jijon were charged after a federal operation on June 3. Officials said Drug Enforcement Administration agents saw Hernandez-Jijon allegedly supply two kilograms of meth to a drug customer in Smyrna. Agents also found two handguns, including one that was hidden in the tank of a toilet, as well as money remitter receipts with Garcia Gomez's and Hernandez-Jijon's names, according to the Justice Department. USDOJ said agents searched an apartment in Smyrna in connection to the investigation, finding a bag with a loaded Glock pistol, two loaded magazines for a firearm and identification for Perez-Maldonado inside of a baby's crib. Also in the apartment, agents found a Springfield XD firearm and mechanical press used to turn powder into kilogram bricks, according to USDOJ. As the investigation continued, agents found that Perez-Maldonado and Hernandez-Jijon had already been deported and removed from the United States earlier. While Perez-Maldonado and Garcia Gomez appeared in court on Wednesday for charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, officials said Hernandez-Jijon is currently a fugitive. 43-year-old arrested after stealing car at gunpoint, prompting chase, police say
A man is in custody after police said he stole a car at gunpoint and led officers on a chase Thursday. The car had been taken at gunpoint, according to a Dayton police spokesperson. Chase ends in 6-vehicle crash on I-75 after truck drives wrong way on highway
Jun. 6—A chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies ended in a six-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 that sent several people to the hospital. The exact number of people injured was not released, but none of the injuries were life-threatening as of Friday afternoon, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. Four people from the suspect vehicle were taken to the hospital. Several others from the remaining five vehicles were also transported. The chase involved the sheriff's office, Perry Twp. police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The suspect vehicle, a GMC Sierra, drove on the wrong side of the road multiple times — including on I-75 — and a person in the truck bed unloaded large wooden boards onto the roadway during the pursuit, according to the sheriff's office. The incident started around 8:28 p.m. after a Perry Twp. officer initiated a traffic stop on the truck near Diamond Mill Road and Wolf Creek Pike in Western Montgomery County. The truck reportedly had no visible registration, and its occupants are believed to be connected to recent thefts in the area. A Montgomery County sheriff's deputy was also in the area as part of a Violent Crime Reduction Blitz and responded to assist police. OSHP also provided air support. During the chase, the truck appeared to try to hit an unmarked sheriff's office vehicle on U.S. 35 near Hoover Avenue and West Third Street, according to the sheriff's office. Crews used multiple sets of stop sticks, or tire deflation devices, but the truck was able to regain traction and continue to flee. On eastbound U.S. 35 at Abbey Avenue, the truck crossed into the westbound lanes and drove into oncoming traffic. An unmarked sheriff's office vehicle hit rear driver's side of the truck near James H. McGee Boulevard to try and disable it. The driver regained control of the truck and continued going the wrong way on U.S. 35 before entering I-75 North and traveling in the opposite direction. Deputies followed closely behind the truck with lights and sirens activated to help shut down the highway and stop vehicles heading toward the truck, the sheriff's office said. At I-75 and Dryden Road, the truck hit a vehicle head-on, resulting in a six-vehicle crash. Other vehicles were slowing down when the crash happened, according to the sheriff's office. Four people in the truck tried to flee but were arrested by law enforcement. They were taken to the hospital with deputy guards. Several people from the other five vehicles in the crash were also transported to the hospital to be evaluated. OSHP is investigating the crash, and the sheriff's office is handling the criminal investigation. The suspects could face charges including possession of drugs, aggravated vehicular assault, fleeing and eluding and felonious assault of a peace officer, according to the sheriff's office. The Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office will formally review potential charges.
