People will put an end to dynasty rule of DMK in 2026 Assembly election: Edappadi K. Palaniswami

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Friday said his party would secure an 'absolute majority' and form the next government in the State in 2026. Addressing a gathering of party workers following a roadshow on Thiruchitrambalam Road in Vanur in Villupuram district, he said the people were disillusioned with the DMK and will put an end to its dynasty rule in the 2026 assembly election. 'The DMK has not fulfilled a majority of electoral promises it made to the people in 2021. Though Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has been claiming that the DMK had kept all its promises, the reality was that only 10% had been fulfilled,' he alleged. Mr. Palaniswami said: 'In the 2021 election manifesto, the DMK said minimum working days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) would be increased from 100 days to 150 days, education loan taken by students would be waived, and ₹100 in subsidy would be given for every domestic LPG cylinder. But these promises remain unfulfilled. The list is endless.' He said the DMK government was anti-people, and the 100% increase in residential property tax, 150% increase in tax on commercial properties, and the drastic increase in power tariff had hit the people hard. Prices of essential commodities have risen, subjecting the people to untold hardship, he alleged. Mr. Palaniswami said that during his tenure as Chief Minister, an Executive Order was issued, granting 7.5% horizontal reservation for NEET-qualified students of State-run schools in undergraduate medical admissions. He also alleged that a university established by the AIADMK government in Villupuram in the name of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was abolished by the DMK government.

Q: Income disparities are still painfully high in India. We're not even a fully middle-income country…. Let me give you some numbers to dispel the idea that we are caught in some low-income trap. The health budget was around Rs 37,000 crore in 2014. Now it's around Rs 1 lakh crore. The farm budget was about Rs 22,000 crore, it's Rs 1.37 lakh crore today. Infrastructure? Up from Rs 2 lakh crore to Rs 11.21 lakh crore. Over 10 years, we have provided 60 crore poor people with housing, cooking gas, electricity, drinking water, 5 kg of free rations, free medical care up to Rs 5 lakh. That's around 14 crore families lifted out of basic hardships, something no government could do in 75 years. We didn't look at things in isolation. Take our integrated approach to a sector like health. When we said we would build toilets under Swachh Bharat, people thought it was just a slogan. But it was directly linked to health. Then Nal Se Jal. No one realises that addresses the problem of fluoride-contaminated water for every household. We brought a scheme for affordable medicines. Whether cancer, blood pressure or diabetes, medicines are now available at 20 per cent of their original cost. We made vaccinations for kids free. We've redesigned the malnutrition programme. From anganwadi to Class 9, the child is tracked and supported. We stopped 13 crore firewood-based cooking systems to improve women's health. For years, only slogans were raised based on ideology. But what did they do? Just got articles published in English? Q: Why are we still fighting over language and medium of education? There's no fight as far as we are concerned. We have a firm policy: India should be run in Indian languages. The fight is in the minds of those who still believe the country should run on foreign languages. You just gave the example of China. Learn from them. Learn from Russia. Japan too. Germany as well. And France. We respect all Indian languages. We believe the South should be run in its own languages. Two states should run in Telugu. Tamil Nadu should function in Tamil. Kerala should function in Malayalam. Hindi's standing is not the same there. Q: What about Hindi? Our leaning is towards all Indian languages. We conducted CAPF constable GD exam in 13 languages. JEE, NEET, UGC are conducted in 12 languages. NEP provides for imparting primary, technical and medical education in regional languages. Stalin should tell people in TN what he has done. Q: The two Thackeray cousins have come together on language. That's not the only reason. Both have come under two digits, that's the real issue. Q: You are tying up with the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. How's the language issue going there? When I say Indian languages, Tamil is included. I have this to say to Stalin. Teach medicine in Tamil. Why don't you? Teach engineering in Tamil. Why don't you do it? If Tamil Nadu's stand is that it opposes teaching in Tamil, then I have a problem. Q: What do you feel about the AIADMK-BJP's prospects? We will win by a landslide. Q: Your political acumen and strategy… does it depend on that or on what happens on the ground? I am talking about the mood of the population. The people of Tamil Nadu are fed up with corruption, deteriorating law and order, nepotism and family feuds. Q: If you win, will you join the government? Yes. Q: Is there a possibility that Vijay will join you, or PMK and smaller parties? Otherwise, it will be a multi-cornered contest. We can't say that now. We will make efforts to bring parties on to a single platform.

CM Yadav unveils Rs 195 crore education boost with free bicycles, electric scooties, and scholarships for MP students

BHOPAL: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced a sweeping package of educational support during the 'Guru Purnima Mahotsav' in Bhopal, centred around improving access, equity, and digital empowerment for students across Madhya Pradesh. At the heart of the Rs 195 crore initiative was the distribution of free bicycles to over 4.30 lakh students who travel more than two kilometres to attend school. The launch was symbolised by the Chief Minister personally handing over 50 bicycles to students at Kamla Nehru Sandipani Girls School in Bhopal, marking a state-wide rollout of the MP Free Cycle Yojana. Meritorious Class 12 students from government schools will now receive electric scooties, continuing a programme that benefited nearly 8,000 students last year. "Next month, school toppers will also receive electric scooties. Those who secured more than 75 per cent marks have already been given laptops recently," the Chief Minister announced. CM Yadav also unveiled a series of new commitments aimed at bolstering academic opportunities. In a fresh promise of educational inclusivity, the chief minister said, "Meritorious students will also get financial assistance for private medical colleges. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Upto 15% Discount for Salaried Individuals ICICI Pru Life Insurance Plan Get Quote Undo Students who clear the NEET exam but fail to gain admission to prestigious government colleges will have their tuition fees fully paid by the government, even if the cost reaches Rs 70 or Rs 80 lakh, or whatever amount, if they gain admission to private medical colleges. A student from an economically weaker family must not be deprived of medical education." He added that state medical colleges will soon have a combined seat capacity of 10,000, up from the existing figure of nearly 5,000. The state is also investing in the transformation of government-run schools, now called Sandipani Vidyalayas, into modern hubs of learning. These institutions will be equipped with smart classrooms, science and computer labs, libraries, and extensive sports facilities, including swimming pools. Over 265 schools are under construction, with 116 ready for occupancy this year. Additional support includes ready-made school uniforms for all students starting next year and free coaching for competitive exams alongside career guidance. Earlier this month, nearly one lakh students who scored above 75 per cent in Class 12 received Rs 25,000 each to purchase laptops. Starting next year, the laptops will be distributed directly, reinforcing the government's commitment to digital literacy. The number of such students stood at 94,000. "With transportation, tuition, infrastructure, and digital tools now part of a broader education framework, the state is laying the groundwork for a more inclusive and opportunity-rich future for its youth," he said.
