He went missing on the night of June 28. Three days later, he was spotted near a bar and restaurant in Basaveshwaranagar, around 3km away. However, by the time the family arrived there, Kalu had vanished.
Kalu's owner, Kusuma BH, a govt employee, her daughter Harshita, a doctor with the Indian Army, and son Bharat are making painstaking efforts to trace him.
Kusuma has announced a reward of Rs 15,000 for anyone who helps in tracing Kalu.
Over 500 handbills, featuring Kalu's picture and Kusuma's contact number, have been pasted on walls and distributed among the residents of Basaveshwaranagar, Mahalakshmipuram, Kurubarahalli, JC Nagar and surrounding areas. "Besides, we've taken to social media, seeking help from netizens. But as of now, we haven't heard anything about him," said Kusuma, who works for the public information office.
Interestingly, Kalu was found in the hilly terrain of Arunachal Pradesh.
Speaking to TOI, Kusuma said her daughter Harshita found him in Dec 2023. "Harshita was working with the army and camping on a mountain. One day, she found four puppies there. They were weak and suffering from some infections. She brought them to her camp and, with the help of a veterinary doctor, nursed them. Unfortunately, three of the puppies died while Kalu survived," she said.
Harshita and Kalu grew fond of each other.

"It was she who named him Kalu during her stay in Arunachal Pradesh," said Kusuma.
Later, Harshita was transferred to Guwahati, and then to Belagavi in Karnataka this year. "Kalu lived with her in Guwahati. However, she found it difficult to look after him in Belagavi. In Nov 2024, Kalu came to our house here," Kusuma said.
According to Kusuma, Kalu goes out for a short walk every night after dinner. "On the night of June 28, he went out but failed to return.
Seeing the handbill, a person called us on July 1, saying he had seen Kalu near a bar and restaurant in Basaveshwaranagar. Filled with hope, we rushed to the place, but he had gone by then," she said.
Harshita was in Arunachal Pradesh when Kalu went missing. "We hadn't told her about Kalu's disappearance. After searching for two days, I posted his picture in our family WhatsApp group, and Harshita learned about the situation. She took a flight to Bengaluru. I search for Kalu from 5am to 9am, as I have to go to office. But Harshita searches for him all day and returns home late at night," she said.

Inquiry report exposes irregularities in Nemom Service Cooperative Bank
Thiruvananthapuram : An inquiry into the irregularities surrounding Nemom Service Cooperative Bank, held as per Section 65 of Kerala Co-operative Societies Act, revealed fraud committed by members of the society's administrative panel. The report states that the bank received investments worth Rs 112 crore and Rs 52 crore were given as loans. Most of these loans were benefited by the accused and also by people close to them. However, not even a single penny was repaid, the report said. As per report, former secretary Balachandran Nair's wife P K Sreekala took loans worth Rs 10 lakh. A R Rajendran, who is also a former secretary, along with his wife Sreejakumari, children and son-in-law, also took loans worth lakhs of rupees. Some of the accused took loans up to Rs 25 lakh from the bank by pledging properties. However, they soon got the documents released with the help of the then secretaries. The existing liabilities of the loans at the bank were not marked in the encumbrance certificates even as the accused took loans using the same documents from other banks. They collected the interest on the deposit but did not repay the interest or the loan amount. Even the elections of panel members did not comply with the rules, the report said. No general body meeting was held at the bank since 2018, the report added. Using the documents of properties of people who took loans from the bank, the accused took other loans without their knowledge. The consent of the joint registrar is required to appoint people on a contract basis at the society. But the accused appointed their kith and kin at various positions at higher salaries and the bank incurred a loss of Rs 14.21 lakh because of this. The fixed deposit (FD) receipts have to be certified by the secretary, but here even retired staff were found to have certified FD receipts. "The report reveals grave irregularities, and the accused must be brought before the law at any cost. Measures must be taken to provide money back to the depositors," said Santhivila Mujeeb Rahman, patron of the depositors' forum. There are as many as six accused in the case. Former secretary of the bank S Balachandran Nair and former president R Pradeep Kumar were arrested earlier. Police to expand CCTV cover in Nashik city to 768 cams
Nashik: Nashik city police are enhancing their surveillance capacity — with 340 CCTV cameras already in place and 400 more planned — targeting a total of 768 cameras. This expanded network aims to greatly improve crime detection and deter criminal activity. For instance, 100 cameras have been placed in Satpur, Ambad, and Indiranagar areas. Sarkarwada now has 32 cameras, while Chunchale is covered by 52 cameras. As many as 156 cameras have been deployed across Nashik Road, Upnagar, Deolali Camp, Panchavati, and Adgaon areas. Currently, another 84 cameras are in the process of being installed in the Bhadrakali area, further expanding the reach of the surveillance network. This comprehensive surveillance will expand even more with the help of the Smart City project. As part of this initiative, 1,300 additional CCTV cameras have already been installed at 350 different locations. According to police, the four accused are Ashwani alias Dilawar, Amit Yadav, Priyanshu Gautam alias Yash, and Priyanshu Teotia. On July 2, police nabbed Teotia and sent him to judicial custody. Ashwani and Teotia were equipped with firearms and ammunition, with Ashwani retaining the Lava mobile. Following the plan, Yadav and Gautam dropped Ashwani and Teotia on an Apache motorcycle at Ramprastha Colony. After shooting Jain outside his home, the duo disposed of the weapon during their escape and subsequently hid the gun, motorcycle, and mobile phone at different locations before reporting the completed task.
