‘They love coming here:' CMAC officials talk recruitment for busy 2025 lineup

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WROC) – Concert season has arrived, and if you're looking to add some shows to the calendar, there's many options across Western New York.
There's been plenty of buzz specifically around CMAC in Canandaigua, which is bringing in some big names this year.
News 8's Natalie Kucko spoke with officials at the venue to learn more on what they have in store as well as the draw coming in locally this season.
'We always have our wish list, if you will, and then look to our promoter, too, to say, 'Hey, who's up and coming?' So, it's really exciting,' said Jordynn Gould, marketing and public relations director for CMAC.
CMAC was recently nominated Outdoor Venue of the Year by the Academy of Country Music Awards.
Already, the venue has four sold-out shows for 2025, which includes Benson Boone, Megan Moroney, The Killers, and Hozier.
Gould says CMAC's new promoter, New York City's 'The Bowery Presents,' has helped to bring in bigger acts. The firm signed on with the venue ahead of the 2024 season.
'I think we have a well-oiled machine. We have a small team that puts everything together and we're really proud of what we offer to all of our fans. We have quite a few who have never performed at CMAC, so it's really exciting to bring new faces to the area,' said Gould.
The 2025 season kicks off in mid May with two back-to-back shows from country artist Kane Brown. Other notable acts include James Taylor, The Beach Boys, Brad Paisley, Bonnie Raitt, John Mulaney, Train, and more.
Gould adds when artists perform in the Finger Lakes, they enjoy staying in the region. She says that helps the recruiting process, along with revenue brought in by ticketholders.
'When artists perform at CMAC, they really love coming here. They remember. They love the Canandaigua area. We always offer them time out on the lake. It's just very different. So, the hospitality they receive when they come here, they remember it. It's helpful. Once they come here, we hope they'll come back,' she said.
If you're looking to splurge on tickets this season, CMAC promises more entertainment.
'We hope when [fans] think about concert season, as the weather warms up, they think about CMAC and wanting to come back and have a good experience from the time they park to the time they leave,' said Gould.
CMAC's box office is now open on the venue grounds Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from noon until 4 p.m.
The venue plans to announce more acts for this season's lineup in the coming weeks.

YouTube hits play on bid to broadcast the Oscars

Every good Oscar race needs a dark horse nominee, even the race to own the Oscars itself. YouTube has presented itself as that very out-of-left-field pick, Bloomberg reports. While ABC will air the ceremony through 2028—as it has done for decades at this point—the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences is currently in the middle of negotiations about the future of Hollywood's biggest night. If YouTube had its druthers, that night would also be small enough to fit right inside its little video player. As other streamers scoop up live rights left and right, YouTube has also shown an increased interest in the space. YouTube TV recently acquired exclusive rights to NFL Sunday Ticket, and Bloomberg points out that the streamer also made a big deal of just how many people watched Taylor Swift's album announcing appearance on the Kelce brother's New Heights podcast last week. (Approximately 13 million people tuned in within 24 hours, Variety reports.) YouTube snatching the Oscars would be a shock, but it also makes a sort of sense. Nominations are already announced via a livestream on the platform, as they are with most award shows these days. Other film-specific awards like the Independent Spiritm Awards are already using the platform to broadcast their ceremonies. Bloomberg also points out that YouTube is 'the single most-watched video platform in the world' and would almost certainly deliver eyeballs after viewership for ABC's broadcast dipped for the first time in four years this March. Still, nothing has been decided as of this writing, and other competitors have their own standard cable networks or connections to major studios to sweeten the pot. ABC will almost certainly make a bid to extend its contract, and Bloomberg reports that NBCUniversal, Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount are also hovering. We'll see who wins the big one in the coming months and years. More from A.V. Conan O'Brien sounds the alarm about late night, while praising Stephen Colbert

While receiving a TV Academy Hall of Fame award, Conan O'Brien offered some thoughts about the state of late-night television. The former late-night host talked to those gathered over the weekend in Los Angeles for the event, where O'Brien noted that there is currently 'a lot of fear about the future of television, and rightfully so.' 'The life we've all known for almost 80 years is undergoing seismic change,' O'Brien said. His remarks come after the recent announcement that CBS would be ending 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' in May 2026. While CBS cited financial reasons for the cancellation, there have been questions about the timing of the announcement, which came just before federal regulators approved a sale of Paramount, the parent company of CBS. During the ceremony, O'Brien said he had decided 'not to mourn what is lost, because I think in the most essential way, what we have is not changing at all.' 'Streaming changes the pipeline, but the connection, the talent, the ideas that come into our homes… I think it's the focus,' he said. 'We have proof here tonight.' O'Brien, who was being honored along with Viola Davis, Don Mischer, Ryan Murphy, Mike Post and Henry Winkler, said Colbert 'is going to evolve and shine brighter than ever in a new format that he controls completely.' 'Technology can do whatever they want. It can make television a pill. It can make television shows a high-protein, chewable, vanilla-flavored capsule with added fiber,' O'Brien said. 'It still won't matter, if the stories are good, if the performances are honest and inspired, if the people making it are brave and of goodwill.'
