But insiders said the broadcaster was backing him.
A source said: 'There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to John but ITV are standing by him.
'There were crisis talks yesterday about what to do. There were some concerns raised about the optics around John and what has happened at the BBC.
'But after much discussion they chose to stand by John.
'As it stands, this weekend's episode will go ahead.'
A second source added: 'ITV have never had any issues with John and they've never had any complaints or concerns about his conduct.
'They will back him to the hilt.'
The Sun revealed on Tuesday that John was the second person to have complaints upheld against him in the investigation into Gregg Wallace's conduct on MasterChef.
Yesterday he was sacked by the BBC.
The Corporation said: 'John Torode has identified himself as having an upheld allegation of using racist language.
'This allegation — which involves an extremely offensive racist term being used in the workplace — was investigated and substantiated by the independent investigation led by law firm Lewis Silkin."
John Torode denies the allegation.
'We will not tolerate racist language of any kind and, as we have already said, we told Banijay UK, the makers of MasterChef, that action must be taken.
'John Torode's contract will not be renewed.'
A source said: 'John's agent received a call 11 minutes before the statements went out and hadn't had a chance to call him.
'He read about it on the BBC News website.
'Obviously he's heartbroken.
'He feels he's been made a scapegoat off the back of the Gregg Wallace report.'
Another source told The Sun the Australian chef planned to quit at the end of this week.

Loose Women horrified as Nadia Sawalha offers peek inside 'cluttered' home - gasping 'it's stressing me out just looking at it!'

The Loose Women panellists were left horrified when Nadia Swahalha offered a peek inside her 'cluttered' home. Friday's instalment of the ITV show saw Christine Lampard, Christine McGuinness, Nadia and Frankie Bridge sit down to discuss the hot topics. During the programme, footage of the TV star's home was shown when the panel talked about the new trend of intentional clutter. Nadia joked: 'I am so bang on trend that I am offering my services for £2,000 per hour, you too can have a home like mine. 'You will never be able to find anything, it doesn't matter, because you'll have wasted lots of energy and wasted lots of time looking for anything you might need.' Frankie commented: 'It's stressing me out just looking at that!' During the programme, footage of the TV star's home was shown when the panel talked about the new trend of intentional clutter Nadia joked: 'I am so bang on trend that I am offering my services for £2,000 per hour, you too can have a home like mine.' 'Intentional clutter, you are tackling it and then some,' Christine interjected. The studio chuckled as Nadia went on to add: 'It's so funny, in the break earlier when you had shown that [Nadia's home], Christine went: 'That that that's not your house...' and I went: 'No, it is!' And she went: 'No, no, no, that's not where you live?'' Christine McGuinness laughed as she joked: 'It's stressing me out!' It comes after Nadia shocked her fellow panellists in May when she flashed her bra live on Loose Wome n. She lifted up her white top to show off her floral blue bra on set. Nadia explained to the rest of the panel, which consisted of Jane Moore, 62, Judi Love, 44, and Sue Cleaver, 61, that she was told that her lingerie didn't actually fit her properly by Fantasie Fit specialist Suzanne Pentland. She was told that her item of clothing was two sizes to small and proceeded to ask: 'Do you want to see it?' The TV star then lifted up her top to show off her bra underneath her blue jacket suit and matching trousers. Nadia said: 'Look at that!' Christine McGuinness (left) laughed as she joked: 'It's stressing me out!' The live studio were left lost for words as she kept the top lifted to display her chest. 'Now I've got to tell you girls, usually they are here, but a good bra...' But co-star and anchor Jane had to interrupt her as she spoke about her bra, and told her that they didn't have much time left to talk about her item of clothing. Jane said: 'We've run out of time...' Nadia pulled her top down and said: 'What I wanted to say is when you feel uncomfortbale, wear it a bit longer and it will stretch out.' The show then had to cut to an advert break.

After making it through to the final round, Siobhan had her skills put to one final test, going against the clock to answer questions on the catchphrase pyramid. Unfortunately, she stumbled right at the Super Catchphrase final question – but would you have any luck? In the clue, three people are exercising next to each other, but while two are doing quite well, a third is looking sad and struggling to keep up and working on bicep curls. On the floor is a painted triangle, square, and circle. Do you get it? Siobhan was unfortunately unable to figure it out in the timeframe, though didn't go home empty handed, earning an incredible £25,000 in the final round. Add that to the £4,500 she had collected already, and that meant she was able to give £29,500 to North London's Maya Centre – a specialist charity offering counselling and holistic support to low-income and minoritised women. After the game was over, host Stephen asked her if she wanted to know what she'd missed out on – but it had already clicked for her. Without the pressure of the clock against her, Siobhan correctly guessed the answer was "Out Of Shape" – as the person struggling was standing outside of the circle in front of them. Watch the moment Nadine Coyle misses out on huge £50k Celebrity Catchphrase prize On top of earning some serious cash for her own charity, Siobhan managed to answer the special double question – meaning that Charlie and Jimmi both got their pot doubled too. Jimmi donated his money Baby Lifeline - which supports frontline NHS staff to prevent injuries and deaths in and around childbirth – while Charlie raised money for breast cancer charity, Future Dreams. 4 The star realised what it meant after the clock ran out Credit: ITV

A hit BBC One series is due to return to TV screens in a matter of days, with Fiona Bruce and Philip Mould set to team up as hosts The beloved BBC series Fake or Fortune? is gearing up for its 13th outing, with Fiona Bruce and Philip Mould at the helm. ‌ The art investigation programme is set to grace our screens once more on BBC One, featuring Antiques Roadshow 's Fiona alongside art expert Philip as they embark on a fresh quest through a new trove of artworks. ‌ Produced by BBC Studios Entertainment Productions, this season promises an unprecedented twist: revisiting previous artworks to discover their fates since first appearing on the show. ‌ The dynamic duo will be exploring pieces linked to illustrious figures such as Churchill, Renoir, and Frances Hodgkins. The season kicks off on Monday, 21 July, with carer and budding art collector Barry joining as a special guest, reports the Express. In the opening episode, Barry brings a painting he snagged at a Sussex antiques fair, which bears a clue on its reverse suggesting it was crafted by Winston Churchill in June 1916 at Herstmonceux Castle. Together, they delve into the mystery of whether Churchill truly painted it and what value it might hold. ‌ Art dealer Philip, who also co-created Fake or Fortune?, expressed his excitement about the new series, stating: "Each series of Fake or Fortune? continues to surprise me with the unique challenges and complexities involved in authenticating art. "Breakthroughs in information retrieval and forensic science have dramatically broadened the scope of our research and the resources available to us, making the procedure more thorough—and more captivating—than ever before. It's been an absolute delight encountering the contributors featured in this newest series; the stakes and emotions have never been more intense. Viewers are in for a genuine treat with these investigations." Meanwhile, journalist Fiona, best known for fronting Antiques Roadshow, remarked: "As always, our investigations in this series have been full of twists and the most unexpected turns. With some of the biggest names in the art world, the outcomes have been potentially life changing for the owners. ‌ "From an unloved picture hidden in a cupboard to one picked up by chance as part of a job lot at auction, the series continues to uncover hidden treasures." Robert Murphy, Series Editor at BBC Studios Entertainment Productions, commented: "Audiences are in for a rollercoaster ride with the intriguing new cases in our thirteenth series. "It's always a pleasure to bring new works of art to the screen and to explore how the art world is changing at rapid speed due to technological advances. It takes a heady mix of investigative research, forensic science and art world politics and to solve these puzzles - and with forgers lurking in the shadows, there is always a risk that a fabulous treasure might not be quite all that it seems." The latest series of Fake or Fortune? comprises six episodes, with each one showcasing a fresh investigation.
