'Holy fucking shit,' the U.S. star said from the fest's iconic main stage, where thousands stood to see her perform. 'I don't think I've ever seen so many people in my life.'
She brought out Smith — 'the greatest songwriter to come out of England' — nearly midway into the set. The pair played 'Friday I'm in Love' and 'Just Like Heaven' together.
A sweet moment occurred when Rodrigo dedicated the tune 'so american' to Brit boyfriend and actor Louis Partridge, who was watching from backstage. 'I fucking love England,' she began. 'I love the culture. I love how nobody judges you for having a pint at noon. I love English sweets — I've had three sticky toffee puddings since I arrived.'
'I also really love English boys,' she continued. 'I wrote this next song when I was falling in love with this boy from London and as we were getting to know each other, we were discovering all of these cross-cultural differences. I would make fun of him for eating a jacket potato with beans inside of it. He would make fun of me for pronouncing things very American — like Glaston-berry — so I took all of our little inside jokes and I made a song on that.'
The annual event, which kicked off Wednesday with a 250,000-plus-person attendance, is the crowning jewel of music festivals. Lorde made a surprise appearance Friday as her new album Virgin was born, and Charli XCX thrilled Brat fans Saturday night. But this year, things often got political onstage.
Festival organizers released a statement Sunday after rap duo Bob Vylan chanted 'death to the IDF' (the Israel Defense Forces) during their set on the West Holts stage on Saturday.
'Their chants very much crossed a line, and we are urgently reminding everyone involved in the production of the festival that there is no place at Glastonbury for antisemitism, hate speech, or incitement to violence,' wrote Emily Eavis, daughter of Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis.
Elsewhere, Irish rap trio Kneecap also took to the stage to voice their pro-Palestine views and used the platform to criticize the U.K. and U.S. governments, as well as the U.S. media.
The band, the subjects of Rich Peppiatt's print-the-legend biopic Kneecap, also thanked the Eavis family for allowing them to play despite pushback from U.K. politicians, including Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy. 'A big thank you to the Eavis family,' they said. 'The pressure that that family was under and they stood strong. Fair play to them.'
According to The 1975's Matty Healy (the band was the first to headline Friday night), viewers watching the BBC's live Glastonbury coverage at home might have been 'disappointed' by the 'lack of politics in this show.'
He said Friday: 'I want you to know it's a conscious decision. … We don't want our legacy to be politics; we want our [message] to be love and friendship.' Shortly after, screens flanking the band as they played 'Love It if We Made It' displayed, among others, clips of KKK rituals, Donald Trump, Harvey Weinstein, the war in Gaza, Kanye West, police brutality in the U.S., 9/11 and London's Grenfell Tower burning down.

'I wanted to be like them. I don't think I ever got as rock and roll as they were—we're more Catan, cold brew, and cold plunge now.' Minnette also addressed persistent rumors about his acting career, clarifying he never officially stepped away from Hollywood. 'There was this weird narrative that I quit acting, but I never felt that or said that,' he said. 'I've had a desire to do it again in some regard, and if the right thing comes along, then the right thing comes along.' His last acting credit was Hulu's The Dropout in 2021, but he still describes 13 Reasons Why as 'the most fulfilling experience I ever had shooting anything.' The band reminisced about early chaos on tour—including an Ohio incident where 'someone got their head kicked into our van'—and their first Coachella set in 2019. 'It was nerve-racking,' Minnette recalled. 'We had never played the new songs live, never used in-ear monitors. It was a lot, and after that I was like, we're never doing Coachella as the first stop of the tour again.' Perhaps the wildest anecdote came when the band revealed Morrissey once attended a Wallows show. 'Morrissey came to a show we played,' Minnette recalled of the night at Los Angeles' Roxy Theatre. 'A couple of years ago, we did this 50th anniversary special show at the Roxy, and they asked us to play. We said, 'Yeah, we have a lot of history there.' And someone told us, 'Morrissey from The Smiths, he's apparently a big Wallows fan, he's asking to come to the show.' We were like, 'What are you talking about? Morrissey's not… yeah right.'' But as the night approached, their skepticism turned into disbelief. 'Then the day of the show, they're like, 'He's coming,' and we're like, 'Okay, right.' And then before the set, they were like, 'He's in the building, he's ready to watch.' And we were like, 'Morrissey's here?'' Minnette continued. The surreal encounter didn't last long. 'There's a really funny video of him sitting there — he looks so upset and he looks so mad. Apparently our fans are really loud, screaming girl voices, and it was way too loud for him. He left three songs in,' Minnette said with a laugh. 'That's the perfect Morrissey story. Didn't even need to meet him. It's the fact that he was there and left.' Wallows are currently gearing up for their summer festival run, which includes their third appearance at Lollapalooza. Bob Vylan Axed From Radar, Kave Fest After Glastonbury Backlash
Bob Vylan have been removed from the lineups of England's Radar Festival and France's Kave Fest as backlash continues from their Glastonbury set. The London punk-rap duo also lost their U.S. visas and representation with United Talent Agency following their politically charged West Holts Stage appearance, where frontman Bobby Vylan led the crowd in chants of 'Free, free Palestine' and 'Death to the IDF.' The Eure department and the city of Gisors have informed us they will oppose Bob Vylan's presence at Kave Fest. We fully support freedom of expression for ALL artists around the world. Our thoughts are with the victims of war in Palestine and their families. We stand firmly against all acts of war and hatred.' A statement posted on Radar festival's Instagram account also confirmed their removal, saying, 'Bob Vylan will not be appearing at Radar festival this weekend.' Bob Vylan responded defiantly to the cancellations in a statement shared to Instagram on Tuesday (July 1), captioning the post, 'Silence is not an option.' Text shared on the post read, 'Today, a good many people would have you believe a punk band is the number one threat to world peace. Last week it was a Palestine pressure group, the week before that it was another band. 'We are not for the death of Jews, Arabs or any other race or group of people,' the statement continued. 'We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine. A machine whose own soldiers were told to use 'unnecessary lethal force' against innocent civilians waiting for aid. A machine that has destroyed much of Gaza.' They added, 'The more time they talk about Bob Vylan, the less time they spend answering for their criminal inaction. We are being targeted for speaking up. We are not the first. We will not be the last. And if you care for the sanctity of human life and freedom of speech, we urge you to speak up, too. FREE PALESTINE.' Earlier this week, Bob Vylan's U.S. visas were revoked, forcing the cancellation of their planned North American tour dates. Meanwhile, U.K. police have jannounced that they have opened investigations into both Bob Vylan and Kneecap's Glastonbury performances. 'Video footage and audio from Bob Vylan and Kneecap's performances at Glastonbury Festival on Saturday has been reviewed,' said the police force in a statement as per Deadline. 'Following the completion of that assessment process we have decided further enquiries are required and a criminal investigation is now being undertaken. A senior detective has been appointed to lead this investigation.' 'This has been recorded as a public order incident at this time while our enquiries are at an early stage. The investigation will be evidence-led and will closely consider all appropriate legislation, including relating to hate crimes.' Raekwon Announces New Album ‘The Emperor's New Clothes' Featuring Ghostface Killah, Nas & More
Raekwon announced that he's dropping off his highly anticipated new album, The Emperor's New Clothes, later this month, and the set is stacked with features. The Wu-Tang Clan member finally revealed the release date for his new project on Tuesday (July 1), and it will feature appearances from Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Nas, Westside Gunn, Benny the Butcher, Conway the Machine, Stacy Barthe and Marsha Ambrosius. Production will also be handled by Swizz Beatz, Nottz, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and Frank G and Roadsart. The album is set to drop on July 18 via Mass Appeal, and will be Raekwon's first release since 2017's The Wild. Raekwon was on that list, which also included Nas and DJ Premier, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, Big L, De La Soul and what the brand calls an 'epic return by a surprise guest of honor,' according to a press release. Among those projects will likely be Ghostface Killah's long-rumored Supreme Clientele 2. As for the De La Soul and Mobb Deep records, they'll be the first release since the deaths of Trugoy The Dove and Prodigy. No more details were made available, but the new Nas record will be the rapper's first since his 2023 run, during which he dropped off King's Disease III, Magic 2 and Magic 3. Raekwon is currently on tour as part of the Wu-Tang Clan and Run the Jewels' The Final Chamber tour. The trej will head to Denver's Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre on July 4.
