Guernsey residents urged to help hedgehogs during hot spell
A hedgehog preservation group has urged islanders to put out food for the animals during the upcoming spell of dry Hedgehog Preservation Group is asking people to put cat biscuits, or small bite dog biscuits out each evening, and to put dishes of fresh water around the group added that in addition to a number of hedgehogs being taken in to be cared for with strimmer injuries, it had seen an increase in hedgehogs which were emaciated and said: "With the prolonged dry spell and higher temperatures set to continue it really is a matter of life or death for our hedgehog population." To deter seagulls and cats, the group said islanders could place the food under a box with a CD size hole in it for the hedgehog to enter.

Public health advice issued to islanders ahead of hot weather
Public Health Jersey has issued advice to islanders ahead of the forecast hot are due to reach the high 20s this weekend and into next week in have been urged to take cold baths and showers, drink plenty of water and to even avoid going outside when the weather is at its peak, from midday to 18:00 to keep homes cool by closing curtains, opening windows and using fans has also been issued. Director of Public Health, Professor Peter Bradley, said: "While the warm weather is enjoyed by most, extreme heat can cause harm to health including heat exhaustion, heatstroke and dehydration, particularly to the most vulnerable in the community. "I encourage all islanders to take precautions and stay safe in the hot weather."
