Celebrity Big Brother star turns down Gladiators stint 'I've got a mortgage to pay'
The One Show presenter Angellica Bell has turned down an opportunity to appear on Celebrity Gladiators after a personal invitation.
The celebrity spin-off of the beloved BBC programme made its debut last year with Louise Minchin, Joel Dommett, Rob Becket and Ellie Taylor.
It came after the return of Gladiators, with the BBC reviving the series for the first time since it aired on ITV in 2000, with a new batch of superhumans showing off their speed, skill, stamina and strength.
Bradley Walsh and his son Barney took over from the likes of Ulrika Jonsson in presenting the new series, and are now returning to the arena for its third season this year.
Before that though, a second series of Celebrity Gladiators has just finished filming starring Joe Wicks, Sam Thompson, Nicola Adams and Vogue Williams.
Teasing the competition during an appearance on The One Show, host Bradley revealed: 'They were fantastic, it was closer than you could possibly imagine.'
'You are going to be surprised, it's a brilliant show,' he teased. 'They're really competitive.'
He then probed Celebrity Big Brother star Angellica on a future appearance, though she quickly insisted she'd never do it, as did The One Show co-host Clara Amfo.
'Yeah you would,' Bradley replied.
'No, I've got a mortgage to pay! I want to keep my teeth in check,' Angellica quipped.
Ahead of the new celebrity version, the stars taking part shared their excitement and competitiveness, with Joe saying: 'Gladiators is one of the most iconic shows of all time, and I'm absolutely buzzing to be taking part. I grew up watching it, so to now step into the arena myself is going to be an incredible experience. I know it's going to be tough, but I'm ready to give it everything I've got."
Sam shared: 'Just when I've finished one challenge I'm onto the next, and this time I'm up against real life Gladiators! Bring it on and get me up that travelator! But on a serious note, I genuinely can't wait to take part, I'm so excited. I grew up watching the show, so to now be taking on the Gladiators in real life is really cool.'
Nicola added: 'I'm absolutely buzzing to be part of the Gladiators Celebrity Special! It's such an iconic show and growing up, I loved watching the epic battles and strong personalities. Now, getting the chance to step into that arena myself, it's a whole new kind of challenge. I may be a champion in the boxing ring, but this is different. I'm ready to give it everything I've got!'
And Vogue said: 'This is wild. I have loved this show since I was little and I'll be living out my childhood dream just stepping into the arena. But I can't quite process how I'll actually face these amazing Gladiators. I'm just delighted to be a contender!'

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed they are investigating drug related offences following an inquiry into hit BBC show Strictly Come Dancing before the series launch Police have said they are investigating drug allegations on Strictly Come Dancing. This weekend, it was reported that the BBC called in the cops after lawyers began an inquiry into the hit dance competition. It followed an inquiry into the show amid claims two of its stars had used cocaine. Strictly has been marred by controversies over the past few years, with the latest coming just weeks before its return to screens. Earlier this month, the BBC enlisted the services of top legal firm Pinsent Masons to investigate recent drug accusations. Former participants, professional dancers and crew members have been invited to speak with solicitors to voice any issues they might have had. Now, the Metropolitan Police have issued a statement to the Mirror as they said: "On Tuesday 12 August, the Metropolitan Police received an allegation about drug-related offences. "Police are assessing the information, and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed. We won't be commenting further at this time.' A source said: 'It's a significant new development in the BBC's recent string of crises that they have now got the police involved in investigating allegations surrounding Strictly. "This is a very dramatic turn of events. Despite all the show and its team have been through over recent months, it's hugely controversial that you've now got Scotland Yard detectives probing Strictly. They added to The Sun: 'This is their biggest prime-time family entertainment show, so it's not a good look for the BBC.' It is believed this is the first time the BBC has been in contact with the police over allegations linked to the show. When approached by the Mirror yesterday, the BBC said they wouldn't comment on any police investigation. A BBC spokesperson said earlier this month: 'We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further.' Earlier this month, the BBC reportedly enlisted the services of a top legal firm to investigate accusations of cocaine use by two stars, with reports suggesting their substance abuse was an open secret on the show. According to The Sun, one of the allegations involves a Strictly star who allegedly commented on another individual's dilated pupils, hinting at drug intoxication. They said: "Have you seen their pupils... they're off their face". Since then, it was reported that bosses have offered those stars the chance of rehab. It was also claimed there could be random drug tests added to the upcoming tours, which are known to include after-parties. The Mirror has contacted the BBC for comment.

Servants' bells and car from Downton Abbey among props and costumes at auction
Fans will be able to purchase a dress worn by the late Dame Maggie Smith, who starred in the ITV programme's six series and two of its films as Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham. Other lots include the wedding dress Michelle Dockery wore as Lady Mary Crawley when she married Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens), the distinctive bell wall from the servants' hall, and the Grantham family car, a 1925 Sunbeam Saloon. The car, which auction house Bonhams say is one of about 45 of the vehicles which survive, has an estimated sale price of £25,000 to £35,000. A script from series one, episode one, signed by cast members including Dame Maggie, Hugh Bonneville and Samantha Bond, is listed for an estimated £600 to £800. The set pieces, props and costumes will be on display at a free exhibition at Bonhams sale room in New Bond Street, central London, frin Monday until September 16. Proceeds from the auction will go to Together for Short Lives, a charity supporting children with life-limiting conditions and their families. 'The world of Downton Abbey is beloved around the globe for its rich, timeless storytelling,' Gareth Neame, the show's executive producer said.
