Bengaluru resident's viral social media post sparks interest in walking commute trend
The individual, who lives approximately 5 km from their office, shared that they now walk to and from work three days a week — clocking a total of 30 km weekly. Though initially sceptical about the idea, their experience quickly turned into something much more positive.

'I started walking 30 km a week instead of using a auto/cab — here's what I noticed,' the resident posted on Reddit. They cited health improvements, saying, walking 10 km per day reportedly helped burn 500–600 calories and improved digestion and energy levels. 'I can feel the difference in my stamina' the resident noted.
'Better digestion, less bloating in the morning, and I feel more energetic during work hours,' they added. Walking also helped reduced stress, they wrote, saying that it became a mental reset, offering time to clear their mind before and after work.

The switch also led to a noticeable drop in daily commute expenses, resulting in financial savings, they said, and cheerfully pointed out one of the unexpected bonuses: no more fare haggles or quarrels with drivers.
Humorously describing the experience as equivalent to a 'free gym membership', they questioned, 'Has anyone else here tried walking to work regularly? How did it work for you — physically and mentally?'

The post amassed several replies from fellow Bengalureans, who said the city is unwalkable as its footpaths are torn up or encroached, and streets are ridden with potholes and traffic.
Some took a funny route, writing, 'Little do people know this is a healthcare policy being promoted by BBMP.'

What Is Graysexuality? Uncovering The Latest Trend Sweeping Gen Z
A growing number of Gen Z individuals are identifying as graysexual, a term describing those who experience sexual attraction infrequently, inconsistently, or only under certain conditions, according to New York Post. This identity lies within the "gray area" between being allosexual - someone who regularly experiences sexual attraction - and asexual - someone who does not. The graysexual community is expanding online, particularly on Reddit's r/Graysexuality subreddit, which now has over 8,300 members. Users share personal experiences, challenges in relationships, and moments of self-discovery related to their sexuality. One Reddit user, @The_Archer2121, revealed they believed they were simply a "late bloomer" for much of their life. Their romantic attractions were rare and short-lived, and they often felt little to no sexual attraction - even toward long-term partners, as per the NYPost. The increased visibility of graysexuality reflects a broader shift among Gen Z toward nuanced sexual identities and open discussions about attraction, intimacy, and personal boundaries. "Graysexual... is not 'I just don't fancy it tonight'. For me, it's being completely devoid of sexual desire in bouts, which can last months, and then one day waking up and realising that instinct has returned," Dan Beeson, a graysexual man from London, told Cosmopolitan UK. "I'd been aware my drive for sex wasn't as regular as others, but I just put it down to my own relationship with sex. That may still be true, but finding out others were having similar feelings and there was at least a community of some number of us was reassuring," he added. What Does 'Graysexual' Mean? Understanding This Rare Form of Sexual Attraction 'Graysexuality', sometimes spelt 'greysexual', refers to a spectrum of limited or infrequent sexual attraction. Though there's no universally fixed definition, graysexual individuals typically experience sexual attraction very rarely or under specific, often uncommon, circumstances. According to Healthline, graysexuality can also involve experiencing attraction with very low intensity or only in particular emotional or relational contexts.

1,254 infant, 45 maternal deaths in Koppal over three years
Koppal: Govt hospitals in Koppal district reported 1,253 newborn and 45 maternal deaths over the past three years, with one infant death occurring in a private hospital. Premature births and health complications were cited as causes. Health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao disclosed these figures in response to BJP MLC Hemalatha Nayak during question hour in the legislative council. The health minister stated that a total of 1,253 newborn deaths were reported, including 446 in 2022-23, 491 in 2023-24, and 317 in 2024-25. Except for one infant death at a private hospital in 2023-24, all cases occurred in govt hospitals in the district. Additionally, 45 maternal deaths were recorded between 2022-23 and 2024-25, attributed to various causes such as high blood pressure and bleeding during pregnancy. "These cases are an example of the state of the health sector in the district," criticised B Girishanand, district president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV). "The number of deaths in private hospitals is not easily available. Therefore, only one infant death has been shown. In reality, it cannot be ruled out that at least half of such deaths might have occurred there," he alleged. Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao identified premature birth, asphyxia during birth, complications due to low birth weight, lung infections, pneumonia, sepsis, jaundice, congenital problems, and heart and nervous system defects as causes of infant deaths. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He also noted that maternal deaths resulted from high blood pressure disorders during pregnancy, bleeding, sepsis, heart-related diseases, multiple organ failure, and abortion infections. Rao detailed actions taken against doctors in other districts of the state regarding maternal and infant deaths in govt hospitals. Show cause notices were issued to a total of 11 doctors from hospitals in Davanagere, Yadgir, Tumakuru, Shivamogga, and Bengaluru Rural districts, including four in Kalaburagi and two in Ramanagara. The health minister emphasised that there is a system for conducting impartial investigations into such incidents. "The state-level maternal mortality analysis committee analysed 530 incidents last year. Accordingly, the infant mortality rate in the state is decreasing, and according to the SRS report of 2022, the infant mortality rate came down from 19 to 14 per 1,000 live births," he explained. Despite the high number of deaths in Koppal district, "no medical institution or doctor has been identified and disciplinary action has been taken," stated the health minister. There is considerable discontent in the district regarding the high rates of maternal and child fatalities and the govt's lack of disciplinary measures. "Numerous media reports have highlighted irregularities in Koppal's govt hospitals. The response from the health minister has confirmed this. So, who is accountable for this situation, and what repercussions will arise from these failures?" asks B Girishanand. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
