Delhi's 3rd Ring Road to open by August

The six-lane Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2), planned as Delhi's third Ring Road, is set to open by August, effectively cutting travel time from Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to parts of south-west and north-west Delhi — and the Haryana border — by 40–60%, officials aware of the project have said.
Over 95% of the construction is complete, with sections passing through Najafgarh, Mundka and Alipur already operational. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which is implementing the project, presented its progress status during a recent meeting between Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari and Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta and her cabinet colleagues.
According to officials, Delhi-NCR is currently seeing road infrastructure projects worth ₹34,589 crore underway across 594km, while another ₹23,850 crore has been earmarked for 128km of roadworks that are about to begin.
Originally conceived under the Delhi Master Plan Road 2021, UER-2 was later notified as a national highway to be readied in five construction packages. Spanning 76km — of which 54.21km lies in Delhi and 21.5km in Haryana — the ₹8,000 crore corridor is being funded by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for its Delhi section and built by NHAI.
'The UER-2 will offer faster connectivity between Chandigarh, Gurugram and IGI Airport. It has also opened up access to previously underserved parts of Delhi such as Najafgarh, Mundka, Karala, Alipur, and Bawana, enhancing links to south Delhi, Noida, Faridabad, and major highways like NH-48,' a report from the Union road ministry, shared with the Delhi government, noted.
During the Lok Sabha campaign in January, Gadkari had highlighted the reuse of two million tonnes of legacy waste from Ghazipur landfill in UER-2's construction — a move that reduced the height of the landfill's trash mountain by seven metres.
In a related development, the underpass stretch of the Dwarka Expressway near IGI Airport — which connects with UER-2 — is nearing completion and expected to open in the next 15 days. The expressway will serve as a bypass to NH-48 and improve access between the airport, UER-2, Dwarka and Gurugram. It will also offer a direct link to Yashobhoomi in Sector 25, Dwarka.
'The Dwarka Expressway has significantly eased travel from parts of Delhi such as Mahipalpur, Dwarka, Vasant Kunj and Najafgarh to Gurugram and IGI Airport. The Haryana section was opened in March 2024, while the Delhi stretch, which includes a tunnel and underpasses, is likely to be operational by mid-June,' an official said.
The 28-km-long Dwarka Expressway, built at a cost of ₹8,611 crore, is now 98% complete.
Officials added that NHAI is increasingly using inert material recovered from legacy waste through biomining for road construction — including projects like the DND–Faridabad–Ballabhgarh–Sohna bypass and UER-II. The use of silt, stones, and construction debris is aimed at cutting landfill volume, conserving natural resources, lowering construction costs and reducing emissions.
The 28-km-long expressway, built at a cost of ₹8,611 crore, is now 98% complete.
Officials added that NHAI is increasingly using inert material recovered from legacy waste through biomining for road construction — including projects like the DND–Faridabad–Ballabhgarh–Sohna bypass and UER-II. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has filed a complaint with the Hyderabad police in connection with a deepfake video of him promoting investment scams. The deepfake videos of Owaisi promoting the scam has been circulating online. The AI-generated fake video fraudulently used Owaisi's image and name. The fake video promised returns of ₹ 53,000 daily. Police said that the video has been made to mislead the public into believing that he is promoting an investment scam. 'The video was created and uploaded along with malicious content to lure innocent people and to make false propaganda in my name,' Owaisi said in his complaint. The video leads people to a website that promotes investment scam. The Hyderabad MP complained that it was putting innocent individuals at risk of losing money. As per police, the deepfake video also comes with AI-generated clips of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, billionaire industrialist Mukesh Ambani and Infosys founder Narayana Murthy. Owaisi requested the police to issue directives to social media platforms to take down the fake video, register a case and investigate and trace the origin of the video. Hyderabad police on June 5 registered a case based on the complaint filed by Owaisi. As per a report by The Times of India, the case has been registered under sections 66C (identity theft), 66D (cheating by personation), and 66E (violation of privacy) of the IT Act, 319(2) (cheating by personation), 336(3) (forgery for purpose of cheating), 336(4) (forgery for purpose of harming reputation), and 356 (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation is on including removal of the video from the social media platform, an official said, according to PTI. Further investigations are on, the official said. AI-generated videos and audios of Pope Leo XIV are populating rapidly online, racking up views as platforms struggle to police them. An AFP investigation identified dozens of YouTube and TikTok pages that have been churning out AI-generated messages delivered in the pope's voice or otherwise attributed to him since he took charge of the Catholic Church last month.

To address traffic congestion problems at Kalindi Kunj intersection here, authorities are planning to construct an interchange facility and a flyover. According to sources, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will hire a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the construction of the structures regarding the improvement of the poor traffic movement at Kalindi Kunj bridge connecting the Delhi-Noida road and Agra Canal Road near Okhla Barrage. According to the plan, a 500-metre-long interchange facility is being planned, having an estimated construction cost of Rs 500 crore. At the Kalindi Kunj intersection, traffic from south Delhi, Noida and Faridabad all merge at one point, causing major traffic congestion during morning and evening rush hours. "In 2022, the UP Public Works Department conducted a feasibility study for addressing the problems faced by daily commuters, and the report recommended the construction of interchanges and flyover at the Kalindi Kunj intersection to eliminate the conflict of traffic," says a government document. Live Events The study was carried out by the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) using Kalindi Kunj metro station and those travelling between Delhi, Noida and Faridabad areas. Recently, during a meeting between Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the matter was discussed. "In the meeting, it was emphasised to address severe traffic congestion at Kalindi Kunj and it was suggested to NHAI to prepare a DPR for an interchange at Okhla Barrage," sources said. Based on the suggestions from the CRRI's report and other remedial actions, the NHAI has invited bids from consultants to prepare a project report. "Interchange facility is a road intervention made to separate the traffic. The Kalindi Kunj intersection, which is connected to the bridge over Yamuna, has been a major traffic congestion point for years. "So, a flyover or a grade separator like the one at Modi Mill flyover in Delhi could be a solution," said S. Velmurugan, Chief Scientist and Head of the Traffic Engineering and Safety Division (CRRI). Currently, the tender for preparation of the DPR has been invited with a deadline of June 23. PTI

Destroy: Drones armed with laser-based hard-kill technology and RF jammers in the system can be destroyed in the air itself. Defend: Ensures the protection of sensitive areas from any remaining drone or swarm attack. China considers Taiwan as its part and has clearly stated that it does not mind using force to merge Taiwan with China. In the last few years, China has increased its military exercises and drone surveillance in the Taiwan Strait. Since 2024, the PLA has doubled the number of surveillance and attack drones near the Taiwan border. In such a situation, there is a great need for a first-rate anti-drone system for Taiwan.
