Carolyn Hax: Feeling pressured by new boyfriend's big rush to move in together

Washington Post19 hours ago
Hi, Carolyn: I've been dating 'Kevin' for a while (about seven months) and am really enjoying it, except that he has been pushing a conversation about moving in together since approximately Month 4. He lived with roommates until last year and I think he is feeling the pinch of living alone, which I don't think is a good enough reason to combine households.

Serena Williams has officially joined Ritual as the brand's first-ever Women's Health Advisor. The announcement, which was made earlier this week, will see a partnership between the brand and Williams for their ultimate shared mission: to bring clarity and credibility to women's wellness, an industry that is often filled with confusing claims and lacking real transparency. To kick things off, Williams has curated a collection of her favorite Ritual products that support her daily routine and help her perform at her best as a mom and businesswoman. This includes the Women's Multivitamin 18+, which is clinically backed and formulated to help fill nutrient gaps in diets for women between the ages of 18 and 49. Also included in the tennis legend's daily vitamin routine is the Synbiotic+, which blends prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics to support a balanced gut microbiome, and the Hyacera, another clinically effective product proven to reduce wrinkles and fine lines and improve skin smoothness, all in one daily capsule. MORE: Kelsey Plum just unveiled her new bubble gum-inspired Under Armour PEs Ritual is one of the only brands conducting clinical research on its finished formulas, and Williams is helping to shift the conversation around women's health from confusion and stigma to clarity and evidence-based empowerment. Don't Get Ripped Off. What to Pay for Stylish, Quality Menswear in 2025.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American man spends $553 total on apparel and footwear each year. More money doesn't necessarily buy better style, but men who don't have an eagle eye for thrifting will likely need to spend $1,200 to $2,500 a year to look good, said Lauren A. Rothman, a stylist in Washington, D.C. To budget effectively, she advises shopping only twice a year, 'once when it gets hot and once when it gets cold.' That approach reduces the risk of random impulse purchases. Building a wardrobe from scratch? Expect to pay $4,000 to $5,000, said New York stylist Turner Allen. Geoff Haggray, a well-dressed photographer in New York, estimates that he spends $2,500 a year on his closet. The 26-year-old buys some designer items but said he's relatively thrifty. 'I either wait for a sale or a really good deal where I'm like, OK, I have to get this,' said Haggray, who hits up the Brimfield flea market in Massachusetts for workwear jackets. At the extreme end of the spectrum, Larry Curran, a dapper stylist and fashion consultant in New York, spends 'in the low six figures' on his wardrobe annually. His big-ticket items: bespoke sunglasses from Maison Bonnet and rakish suits by luxury labels Husbands Paris and London's Adret. 'I pick out things that are special to me,' said the 40-year-old.

So, invite your partner to join you. Create a cozy space in bed, by the fireplace, or on the couch, and spend the day snuggling and snoozing together. Stroll Around the Bookstore If you're longing to get out of the house but keep the approach gentle, try a bookstore stroll. You can grab a decaf coffee and wander through the children's section together as you dream about reading to your little one later in the year. Quick Tip Look for books you both enjoyed as children and revisit the whimsy together or make a list of books you would love to share with your child. The second trimester means your morning sickness and longing for naps could be decreasing and your energy levels are shooting up. You've got that gorgeous pregnancy glow and you're ready to show off your growing bump. Go Dancing If your energy is back and you want to show off that budding bump, a night of dancing might do the trick. Show off your bump and your skills in a fun outfit and go out dancing with your partner. Just use caution on your more adventurous dance moves. Try All the Food Spots A lot can happen while you're getting through the first trimester. Once your appetite is back, hit up some new local spots or try some new foods together. You might be able to satisfy some of those pregnancy cravings while you're at it. Quick Tip While there are tons of foods to enjoy while you're pregnant, there are a few that medical professionals recommend avoiding, so just know what to watch out for before you hit the restaurant. Make Mocktails at Home You're living the mocktail life for the next few months, so you may as well embrace it. Spend an evening making pregnancy-friendly mocktails and enjoying each other's company at home. Helpful Hack Add romance to the evening and share your mocktails under the stars or snuggled up in bed. Try a Double Date With your energy climbing and your nausea subsiding, you might finally feel like the company of friends. Plan a double date for food, a movie, or an exciting activity to catch up with your pals while spending quality time with your partner. Related: You might be slowing down a bit during the third trimester, but you can still enjoy some exciting dates that help you prioritize rest. For going out or staying in, give these pregnancy-friendly dates a try. Schedule a Couple's Massage Your growing baby means growing strain on your body, especially in the third trimester. Ease your discomfort while spending time with your sweetheart and schedule a couple's massage. Need to Know You can ask for a prenatal massage so your experience is specifically catered to your pregnancy needs. Take a Dip Together The extra weight you're carrying in the third trimester is all for the benefit of your baby. But it can start to feel uncomfortable. Spend some time in the water with your partner to ease your joints and spark a little romance. Have a Great Conversation on a Walk Walks are great throughout pregnancy. You might be moving a bit slower in your third trimester, inviting plenty of time for great conversation with your partner as you stroll along. Related: Make Doctor Appointments Fun The final weeks of pregnancy usually bring more frequent doctor appointments. Make these prenatal obligations more exciting by bringing your partner along and carving out some extra time for food, rest, and fun. Pregnancy is a different experience for each person and each pregnancy. If you're trying to prioritize your relationship while on bed rest, try these easy at-home date ideas. Make a Message for Baby If you're staying in bed or trying to move around as little as possible, now is a great time to create future messages for your little one. Spend time with your partner writing letters to your baby or creating a video where you both tell the story of how you met or how excited you are to bring your baby into the world. Watch the Sunset When you're stuck in bed you might appreciate the smaller things in life a little more. Move near a window or a comfortable outdoor space and enjoy watching the sunset with your partner. You can include favorite foods or mood music to add more romance to the occasion. Try a Date Night Subscription Box If you can't go out and have fun, let the fun come to you. A date night subscription box provides everything you need for a date night in the comfort of your own home. Try Date Night In Boxes for creative and themed date nights or Datebox Club for playful dates you can do in the comfort of your own home. Even when you're not feeling your best, being pregnant can be a special time for you and your partner. No matter what date night you choose, there are sure to be some sweet moments you can share as a couple while you're little one is kicking and growing. Solve the daily Crossword
