Giants vs Bills weather: Latest details for Saturday's preseason game

Yahoo09-08-2025
The Buffalo Bills will be without quarterback Josh Allen for their first preseason game on Aug. 9, which should be a sweltering one.
It will be the last first preseason game at Highmark Stadium when the Bills take on the New York Giants. It's also going to be amid afternoon summer heat, with a 1 p.m. kickoff and highs in the upper 80s.
Orchard Park weather for Giants vs. Bills game
The National Weather Service in Buffalo predicts temperatures of 84 degrees at kickoff, with a sticky dew point and sunny skies. Winds will be mild, with single-digit winds out of the south.
The AccuWeather forecast predicts temperatures of 85 degrees at the start of the game, with partly sunny skies and a very high UV index, so Bills Mafia should be sure to pack their sunscreen. The RealFeel temperature is a simmering 92 degrees, with wind gusts of 12 to 13 mph during the game.
How Giants vs. Bills weather will impact odds, betting
While cold weather and precipitation affect offensive efficiency, there's little evidence that heat affects the product on the field for the NFL. So this preseason matchup won't be impacted much by weather (though much more by the absence of the reigning league MVP). Passing yards do trend slightly upward as temperature increases, while rushing yards tend to decrease a bit, based on an analysis in The Athletic.
The region is seeing a notable increase in average temperature over the course of the season, although it's New York so there's always a chance for late season snow in Buffalo. Average temperatures from September to December in Buffalo have increased 3.2 degrees since 1970, according to Climate Central.
The Bills are favored by 1.5 points in the preseason bout with the Giants, giving a narrow edge to the home team. The over/under is set at 37.5 points.
The Bills lead the all-time series against the Giants, 8-7, including the Super Bowl XXV loss in 1991. The Bills won the regular season matchup between the teams on Oct. 25, 2023 in Orchard Park, 14-9.
The Bills and Giants play Saturday, Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. The game will be broadcast on local CBS affiliates, including WROC Channel 8 in Rochester. Andrew Catalon and Steve Tasker will call the game with sideline reporter Maddy Glab.

Cardinals place outfielder Victor Scott II on 10-day IL with left ankle sprain

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Victor Scott II on the 10-day injured list before Sunday's series finale against the New York Yankees. Scott had an MRI and it revealed he has a left ankle sprain. He collided with the outfield wall in pursuit of Aaron Judge's home run in the third inning of Saturday's game, a 12-8 Yankees victory. Outfielder Nathan Church and left-handed pitcher Anthony Veneziano have been selected from Triple-A Memphis. Right-handed pitcher Roddery Muñoz was optioned to Memphis. Church will start in center and hit ninth. Scott was hurt when he was trying to rob Judge of a home run. Scott almost brought back the Yankees slugger's first career home run against the Cardinals after going high above the center-field wall with his glove. He landed awkwardly on his left ankle. Scott has played in 116 games this season. He is hitting .223 with five home runs and 35 RBIs. Scott has 31 stolen bases. Two starters also remain out of the St. Louis lineup — first baseman Willson Contreras (right foot contusion) and second baseman Brendan Donovan (left foot/groin soreness). Contreras was hit by a pitch on the foot Tuesday and hasn't played since. Alec Burleson has started each of St. Louis' four games at first base since Contreras has been sidelined. Donovan has been dealing with leg and foot injuries since being removed from a game against Toronto on June 10 with a sprained capsule in his left big toe. He has not played in the series against the Yankees. ___ AP MLB:
