Akasa Air, Adani Airports enter partnership
Pune: Akasa Air on Friday announced its strategic partnership with Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL), the largest operator of PPP airports in India, to commence commercial flight operations from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
As one of the early airline partners to confirm operations from NMIA, Akasa Air reinforces its commitment to shaping the future of Indian aviation through enhanced connectivity and sustainable expansion, further strengthening India's dual-airport strategy for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Akasa Air will operate 100+ Weekly domestic departures initially, scaling up to 300+ domestic and over 50+ international departures weekly in the winter schedule.
As part of its broader network strategy, the airline is also set to ramp up to 10 parking bases by the end of FY2027, with a focused international expansion into key Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian markets.
The addition of NMIA to Akasa Air's growing network reflects the airline's long-term vision of providing more options and seamless travel experiences for its passengers, while also contributing to the continued development of India's aviation sector.
Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO, Akasa Air said: "Our foray into Navi Mumbai International Airport is a strategic step aligned with Akasa Air's long-term vision to build a future-ready airline that is responsive to the evolving needs of Indian travellers. No airline in India will have a larger percentage of its fleet and operations based out of NMIA than Akasa Air. Enhanced connectivity from Navi Mumbai will not only strengthen our network in the western region but also help fuel India's economic engine by improving connectivity, stimulating regional development, and ensuring that the benefits of aviation-led growth reach every corner of the country.
This move supports our commitment to supplement existing capacities, unlock new demand centres, and enable sustainable growth'
'NMIA represents the future of Indian aviation, and our presence from the outset aligns with our vision to serve India's emerging demand with agility, accessibility, and customer-first innovation. We appreciate our continued partnership with Adani Airports, offering expanded connectivity from this state-of-the-art airport while supporting the broader goal of regional and national aviation growth across our nation', Dube added.
Arun Bansal, CEO, AAHL, added: "We are pleased to welcome Akasa Air as one of the inaugural airline partners at Navi Mumbai International Airport. Their rapid growth and forward-looking approach make them an ideal partner in NMIA's journey to becoming a key domestic and international hub. Our collaboration aims to offer a seamless and enhanced travel experience for millions, with NMIA playing a central role in reshaping Mumbai's air connectivity ecosystem.

'Supremacist and racist mentality': Iran slams US travel ban; cites 'deep hostility towards Muslims'

Iran on Saturday condemned the US travel ban targeting Iranians and citizens of 11 other mostly Middle Eastern and African countries, calling it a reflection of a "supremacist and racist mentality. " These remarks came following US President Donald Trump 's executive order reinstating broad travel restrictions, citing national security concerns after a recent firebomb attack at a pro-Israel rally in Colorado. It is "a clear sign of the dominance of a supremacist and racist mentality among American policymakers," director general for the Department of Iranian Affairs Abroad at Iran's foreign ministry, Alireza Hashemi Raja said in a statement released by the ministry. He further stated that "US government's decision to ban Iranian nationals, solely based on their religion and nationality, not only reflects deep-seated hostility toward the Iranian people and Muslims but also constitutes a violation of fundamental principles of international law, including the prohibition of discrimination and basic human rights." The US travel restrictions, starting June 9, will apply to citizens of Iran, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo-Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Hashemi-Raja further indicated that, "depriving hundreds of millions of people of the right to travel to another country solely based on their nationality or religion is an example of racial discrimination and systemic racism within the American ruling establishment." The ministry official noted the ban's discriminatory nature would "entail international responsibility for the US government", without providing details. The minister also declared that Iran would take all necessary steps to protect the rights of its citizens against the impact of the US government's discriminatory decision. Diplomatic relations between Iran and the US ended shortly after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, with tensions persisting since. The United States hosts the largest Iranian diaspora globally. Tehran's foreign ministry data shows approximately 1.5 million Iranians resided in the United States in 2020. Trump's directive followed Sunday's incident at the Colorado rally, where officials reported over a dozen injuries. The accused is an Egyptian national who remained after his tourist visa expired.

Dark patterns alert: CCPA tells e-commerce platforms to self-audit for deceptive design practices; violators already under scanner

In a move to bolster digital consumer protection, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has directed all e-commerce platforms to conduct self-audits within three months to identify and eliminate 'dark patterns' — manipulative interface designs that mislead users into unintended actions. Issuing an advisory on Saturday, the Consumer Affairs Ministry said platforms must evaluate their digital interfaces for any features that could undermine consumer choice or amount to unfair trade practices. 'All e-commerce platforms have been advised to conduct self-audits… and take necessary steps to ensure that their platforms are free from such dark patterns,' the ministry said, as quoted PTI. Dark patterns include practices such as false urgency messages, hidden costs, forced subscription sign-ups, and disguised advertisements. In 2023, the government notified guidelines identifying 13 such deceptive tactics, including basket sneaking, confirm shaming, drip pricing, and interface interference. Platforms are also encouraged to submit self-declarations confirming that their services comply with these standards. The CCPA said such declarations would help build consumer trust and contribute to a more transparent digital marketplace. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Descubre cómo Amazon CFD puede ayudarte a invertir como un pro Empezar ahora Subscríbete Undo While the regulator did not name specific violators, it confirmed that notices have already been issued to platforms found breaching the anti-dark-pattern norms. The advisory follows the formation of a Joint Working Group comprising officials from government ministries, regulators, consumer groups, and legal academia. The group will monitor violations and recommend awareness initiatives aimed at curbing the spread of dark patterns in India's fast-growing e-commerce space.
