NDA is best place to install statue of warrior Bajirao Peshwa: Amit Shah
Shah was speaking to a gathering after unveiling the statue of Thorle Bajirao Peshwa within the NDA premises. "Peshwa was entrusted with the title by Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj at the age of just nineteen. He transformed Swarajya into an empire," Shah said.
"Bajirao Peshwa fought 41 wars in his 20-year tenure and won all of them. I don't think any other warrior has such a history", Shah said.
The war strategy of the great Bajirao Peshwa is timeless, he said. "If we study it and decide our strategy, no one will look at India with an evil eye", said Union Home Minister.
He said Punyanagari (Pune) is the land of heroes. "Lokmanya Tilak gave the first call to fight against the British for freedom from Pune. Veer Savarkar showed how much a single person can do for the country," he added.

Anti-Maoist Operations Aimed at Enabling Corporate Loot, Violence Must End: Joint Statement
Citizens, tribal rights activists and organisations urged the Union and state government to stop repression and violence in Adivasi areas. Illustration: Pariplab Chakraborty. New Delhi: In a joint statement released on Saturday (July 5), citizens, tribal rights activists and organisations called for an end to the 'repression' and 'violence' in predominantly Adivasi areas across the country, especially in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. More than 40 organisations are signatories to the joint statement, including the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Jharkhand; the National Alliance for Climate and Ecological Justice; the Adivasi Adhikar Manch, Jharkhand; and the National Alliance of People's Movements. Individuals who are signatories include poet and writer Jacinta Kerketta and economist Jean Dreze under the banner of the Jharkhand Janadhikar Mahasabha. Violence and repression in the name of 'eradicating Maoism' have increased in predominantly tribal areas such as Bastar, Chhattisgarh in recent years, the statement said. However, civilians are also killed along with Maoists in these operations. Moreover, the government's attitude is against the peaceful and democratic protests of indigenous communities against displacement, forced mining, forced camp construction and militarisation, the statement said. 'The Adivasis have been fighting against forced land acquisition, eviction from forests and arbitrary mining for decades. They are fighting for a dignified life and constitutional rights. Even then, the widespread violation of PESA, Fifth Schedule, Forest Rights Act and constitutional rights of the Adivasis is increasing,' the statement read. The fifth schedule of the constitution aims to protect tribal autonomy and their rights over land in areas notified as part of this schedule. The districts of Surguja, Bastar, Raigarh and Raipur in Chhattisgarh, for instance, come under the Fifth Schedule. The Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996, meanwhile extended the provisions of gram sabhas or panchayats to the tribal areas of nine states that have Fifth Schedule areas, including Chhattisgarh, in an effort to enable tribal self-governance in these regions. The Forest Rights Act – officially the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 – recognises the rights of tribal and other forest dwellers to their ancestral lands within forested areas and proffers them rights to live on the land, sustainably use forest resources, and protect and conserve these areas. The July 5 statement claimed that the 'real objective' of anti-Maoist operations in states such as Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand is to enable 'corporate loot': 'Big business houses have their eyes on them. The disagreement of the Gram Sabhas, various movements of non cooperation and resistance of the Adivasis, progressive organizations fighting for the poor and the Maoists stand against this loot. And naturally, the government comes forward to protect corporate interests, administratively suppresses these protests.' Though the insurgent Communist Party of India (CPI) (Maoist) has expressed its intent to engage in peace talks, Maoist elimination campaigns still occur. Most recently, security forces killed 31 people – including Maoists and, allegedly, unarmed tribals – in the Karregutta mountain range of Bastar in Chhattisgarh, the statement said. In many of these cases, the dead bodies have not even been handed over to their families, it claimed. 'This shows that in the name of 'eradicating Maoism', the government is set out to destroy the constitution, international laws, humanity and social cultural customs,' the statement said, adding that this was a 'blot on our democracy and constitutional system'. The signatories called on the state and Union governments to put an immediate stop to armed aggression and violence in these areas and implement a 'credible ceasefire'. It also urged that authorities engage with local indigenous communities on their issues, and start a dialogue with the CPI (Maoist). A tribal youth organisation in Bastar, the Moolvasi Bachao Manch, which was fighting against forced camps and displacement, has been banned and its leaders arrested under 'fake charges'. This needs to be undone by withdrawing the charges against its leaders and releasing them, the statement said. It also urged the governments to remove all armed force camps, camps built without the consent of gram sabhas as well as camps setup in schools, apart from ensuring the proper implementation of laws such as the PESA, the fifth schedule and Forest Rights Act in these areas. So near, yet so far: Vijayvargiya lost yet another political race
Bhopal: On Feb 26, Union home minister Amit Shah who was in Bhopal to address the valedictory function of the Global Investors' Summit delayed his return from Bhopal airport and met Kailash Vijayvargiya at the state hangar for about 20 minutes. Vijayvargiya was also caught unawares as he was travelling to Indore when Shah's phone call came and he rushed to Bhopal airport to meet him. The 20-minute meeting between the two fuelled speculations that Vijayvargiya might be entrusted the charge of BJP state president as VD Sharma had already completed his term. Shah came out of the meeting, resting his arm across Vijayvargiya's shoulder. The body language of both Shah and Vijayvargiya made people believe that the announcement is imminent. But days turned to weeks and months and though Vijayvargiya remained in the race for state president, when the announcement finally came on Wednesday – it was MLA from Betul assembly seat Hemant Khandelwal who made the cut to the top. The ascent of Kailash Vijayvargiya, MP's urban administration minister and Malwa strongman from a BJYM leader in the 1990s to BJP's national general secretary in-charge of West Bengal state has been dramatic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Beyond Text Generation: An AI Tool That Helps You Write Better Grammarly Install Now Undo So has been his failure to make the cut to the top. Over the years Vijayvargiya has seen many a slip between the cup and the lip. For most observers the state BJP presidentship race turned out to be a recap of the 2023 assembly election. Kailash Vijayvargiya was one of the front-runners along with former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Prahlad Singh Patel for the post of MP chief minister. But, when the party announced the name of Mohan Yadav, it left everyone surprised. The question is, why is Kailash Vijayvargiya, a BJP stalwart in the state who never lost an election has not been able to get onto a bigger role. When he left the state in 2015 to join the central leadership under former BJP chief Amit Shah, Vijayvargiya was the minister for urban administration in the state govt. He was given charge of West Bengal, a place where politics is blemished with violence and bloodshed. With Vijayvargiya as the national general secretary in-charge of West Bengal BJP, the party secured just three seats in 2016 assembly elections. By 2019 Lok Sabha elections, West Bengal gave BJP 18 of the total 42 seats and a vote share of 40%. This made Kailash Vijayvargiya gain indisputable trust with Amit Shah. Then came the assembly election 2021 and deaths of party workers were reported by BJP every other day in TMC-governed West Bengal. It was a do or die fight for the saffron party. Though TMC retained power after securing 216 seats out of 294, BJP became the official opposition with 77 seats, a gain of 74 MLAs in five years. But violence was uncontrollable in West Bengal and BJP state chief Dilip Ghosh reported the deaths of 37 workers in post poll results. After the defeat, BJP organization was badly hit as most of the TMC leaders who joined the party before the polls returned to the TMC fold. Vijayvargiya had to take responsibility for all allegations that came from the organization and in 2023 returned to MP. Along with former Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel, Faggan Singh Kulaste – Kailash Vijayvargiya was also asked to contest the assembly elections from Indore 1 seat. A reluctant Vijayvargiya, wanted a ticket for his son Akash Vijayvargiya, who was MLA for one term, a demand which the which the party supposedly shot down. Though in the race for chief minister, he was back to where he left in 2015 – made cabinet minister for urban administration. Speaking to TOI, a senior office-bearer of the state BJP argued, "It is not just Kailash Vijayvargiya. It is party's policy that new faces should be brought forward and given the opportunity. Kailash Vijayvargiya, Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel and Narottam Mishra have had their time in the party. Their contribution is respected by all, but time has come for generational change. No single person is being targeted. " BOX... THE ENIGMA: WHY HE FAILS 1. When it came to the CM's post, BJP has always appointed an OBC since more than 50% of voting population in the state comes from that community. Hence, Uma Bharti, Babulal Gaur, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Mohan Yadav. Vijayvargiya being a Marwari Baniya, got beaten in the caste calculation. 2. Kailash Vijayvargiya is now 69 years and though he is a seven-time MLA, he like other senior party legislators is not getting preference because of the age factor. Internal policy of the BJP is to build new leadership with younger faces. 3. West Bengal assembly polls 2021 did not go well for Vijayvargiya despite attaining the status of the second most important party in the state. Allegations were levelled against him by BJP veteran Tathagata Roy 4. Hemant Khandelwal as state BJP chief was the choice of CM Mohan Yadav. Appointing Khandelwal as organisation head ensured there is no conflict between the party and the govt
