(Reuters) -London-based financial technology giant Revolut is in talks to secure new funding at a valuation of $65 billion, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The company is in discussions to raise about $1 billion via newly issued shares and the sale of some existing stock, the report said, adding that U.S.-based investment firm Greenoaks is in talks to lead the private funding.
Revolut declined to comment on the report, while Greenoaks did not immediately respond to a Reuters request.
Last year, Revolut was valued at $45 billion through a secondary share sale to new and existing investors. It has emerged as the most successful of the handful of European fintechs founded in the past decade with a digital-only model.
The company in April reported a more than twofold surge in last year's pretax profit to 1.1 billion pounds and said it expected to start operating as a UK bank in 2025.

Asia stocks mixed, currencies steady as markets eye Fed, Ukraine summit

HONG KONG: Emerging Asian stocks were mixed on Tuesday, while most currencies held steady, as investors looked to a pivotal Federal Reserve meeting and developments from a White House summit with European leaders that could shape the Ukraine war. Stocks in Philippines and South Korea dropped 0.8 per cent and 0.4 per cent, respectively while shares in Taiwan shed 0.3 per cent. On the other end, equities in Singapore and Malaysia both gained 0.6 per cent. Poon Panichpibool, markets strategist at Krung Thai Bank, said Asian equities were largely mixed as investors awaited outcome from the Jackson Hole symposium for further hints on the US interest rate trajectory. He added that markets were also booking profits after strong gains in recent months, trimming exposure ahead of clearer signals on potential Fed rate cuts. The Federal Reserve's annual symposium through Aug 21–23 is in focus, with Chair Jerome Powell due to speak on economic outlook and the central bank's policy framework. "Powell will likely calibrate his message, keeping the door open for an insurance cut to avert a sharper deterioration in the labour market, while cautioning against excessive or rapid rate cuts that may undermine the need for vigilance against tariff-induced inflation," analysts at DBS said in a note. "Markets will also scrutinize how far US President Donald Trump has tilted the Fed's internal balance away from Powell's cautious stance," the note added. The cautious mood ahead of the event kept the dollar index steady, while markets also awaited developments following a White House summit with European nations that could shape the next phase of the war in Ukraine. Asian currencies were largely muted against a steady dollar. Philippines' peso inched 0.2 per cent lower while the Taiwanese dollar lost 0.1 per cent. Other currencies in the region were largely flat. Meanwhile in Indonesia, the rupiah dropped 0.5 per cent as markets reopened after a long weekend, with investors awaiting Bank Indonesia's policy decision on August 20. The benchmark stock index edged 0.1 per cent lower. The central bank is expected to pause its easing cycle on Wednesday to gauge the impact of earlier rate cuts, as inflation has picked up and economic momentum stayed solid last quarter, a Reuters poll showed. "The fiscal authorities are looking to improve budget disbursement and implement another stimulus package but the risk of revenues undershooting targets poses a constraint," analysts at Nomura said in a note.

Zelenskiy says Ukraine security guarantees expected within 10 days

KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday after his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders that security guarantees for Kyiv will likely be worked out within 10 days. 'Security guarantees will probably be 'unpacked' by our partners, and more and more details will emerge. All of this will somehow be formalised on paper within the next week to 10 days,' Zelenskiy said at broadcast press briefing after his meetings. Trump told Zelenskiy on Monday that the United States would help guarantee Ukraine's security in any deal to end Russia's war there, though the extent of any assistance was not immediately clear. 'It is important that the United States is sending a clear signal that it will be among the countries helping to coordinate and will also be a participant in the security guarantees for Ukraine,' Zelenskiy said. 'I believe this is a major step forward.' Although a peace deal appeared far from imminent after the meetings in Washington, Zelenskiy said his Monday meeting with Trump was his 'best' so far. He also said Ukraine was ready to meet with Russia in 'any format' and that territorial issues would be discussed on a bilateral level with Russian President Vladimir Putin - but no dates for a possible meeting with Moscow have been scheduled yet. 'The question of territories is something we will leave between me and Putin,' Zelenskiy said. He added that a part of security guarantees for Ukraine is a package of U.S. weapons 'which primarily includes aircraft, air defence systems,' among others. 'There indeed is a package with our proposals worth $90 billion,' Zelenskiy said. 'And we have agreements with the U.S. president that when our export opens, they will buy Ukrainian drones. This is important for us.' - Reuters

OpenAI rolls out cheapest ChatGPT plan at $4.6 in India to chase growth

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/ File Photo (Reuters) -ChatGPT maker OpenAI on Tuesday launched ChatGPT Go, a new India-only subscription plan priced at 399 rupees ($4.57) per month, its most affordable offering yet, as the company looks to deepen its presence in its second-largest market. Global companies often offer cheaper subscription plans for India's price-sensitive market, targeting the nearly one billion internet users in the world's most populous nation. The plan allows users to send up to ten times more messages and generate ten times more images compared to the free version, while also offering faster response times. Message limits increase with higher-tier subscription plans. ChatGPT Go is designed for Indians who want greater access to ChatGPT's advanced capabilities at a more affordable price, the Microsoft-backed startup said in a statement. The top-tier version of ChatGPT - ChatGPT Pro - is priced at 19,900 rupees/month in India, while ChatGPT Plus, its mid-range plan, costs 1,999 rupees/month. Earlier this year, CEO Sam Altman met with India's IT minister and discussed a plan to create a low-cost AI ecosystem. India is OpenAI's second-largest market by user base after the United States and may soon become the biggest, Altman said recently.
