Hyderabad: In case of denial of President's appointment, Telangana Congress leaders, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, will be organising 'Chalo Rashtrapati Bhavan' on Thursday.
According to party sources, the leaders are still optimistic about the appointment. But in case President Droupadi Murmu denies, the next plan of action would be marching towards the official residence of the President. 'Our next plan of action in case an appointment is denied will be building further pressure. We shall be holding a dharna at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
'Chalo Rashtrapati Bhavan' will be the next idea to highlight the issue of BC reservations in the national capital,' said a BC leader in Delhi. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi who could not attend the Mahadharna at Jantar Mantar as he was attending final rights of Shibu Soren urged President Droupadi Murmu to give her assent to Telangana's reservation bills. "The Telangana Government and Congress sat on a dharna in Delhi today, demanding President's assent to the law reserving 42% for backward classes in education, employment and local government.
This law is a major advance towards the Constitution's vision of social justice, grounded in data from the caste census," the Congress leader posted on X.

'India must retaliate': Shashi Tharoor says ‘hidden message' in 50% US tariff

Delhi: On US President Donald Trump announcing additional 25 per cent tariff on India, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor outside Parliament in New Delhi.(PTI) "It will have an impact because we have trade of about $90 billion. If things will get costly by 50 per cent then people will also think before purchasing them. If our competitors Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China will sell products at a lower cost... it will have an impact. The additional 25 per cent tariff has been added on the pretext that we are buying oil, petroleum products from Russia, however, China is purchasing almost double... and they have been giving 90 days while India has been given just three weeks. There seems to some other hidden message from Washington. The government should respond after carefully understanding the situation. We should also impose 50 per cent tariff on US goods." Average of Indian tariff on US goods is 17%, he said.

Kharge, Sonia other Opposition MPs protest against SIR in Parliament

Several MPs of the INDIA bloc parties, including Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, staged a protest in the Parliament House complex on Thursday (August 7, 2025) against the Election Commission's voter roll revision in Bihar. Holding banners and posters against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Samajwadi Party's Dharmendra Yadav, TMC's Sagarika Ghose, as well as other opposition MPs, raised slogans and demanded a rollback of the SIR as they staged their protest near Parliament's Makar Dwar. Follow the Parliament Monsoon Session Day 14 LIVE This was the 12th day of their protest, with only one day gap in between on Monday when the Opposition skipped their protest in view of the demise of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren. There was a huge banner in front of the protesting MPs which read 'Discussion not deletion'. Another banner carried by the protesting MPs read 'SIR - Silent Invisible Rigging'. With 'Stop SIR' placards along with posters, alleging collusion between the ECI and the government, in hand, the MPs of the opposition, including those of the Congress, DMK, TMC, and Left parties, among others, participated in the protest. The opposition has been protesting in both Houses of Parliament against the SIR, alleging the EC's exercise was aimed at "disenfranchising voters" in Bihar ahead of the Assembly elections. They have been demanding a discussion on the issue in both Houses. There has been a logjam in Parliament over the SIR in Bihar. Barring discussions on Operation Sindoor in both Houses, Parliament has seen little business ever since the Monsoon session began on July 21 due to repeated adjournments, mostly over the SIR issue.

'No Country Can Threaten Us Like This': Shashi Tharoor Slams Trump's 50% Tariff On Indian Goods

Last Updated: Shashi Tharoor has slammed Donald Trump's 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods, urging India to retaliate with equal tariffs on American exports. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has strongly criticised US President Donald Trump's decision to impose an additional 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods, effectively raising the total tariff to 50 per cent, in response to India's continued purchase of Russian crude oil. 'It will definitely have an impact because we have a trade of 90 billion dollars with them, and if everything becomes 50 per cent more expensive, buyers will also think, why should they buy Indian things?" Tharoor said. He also urged the Indian government to respond firmly by imposing tariffs on American goods. 'It is not that any country can threaten us like this," he added. view comments First Published: August 07, 2025, 13:08 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
