Penfield's Emling tops Section Five Best

Yahoo28-05-2025

Patrick Emling had himself a week. So did his Penfield baseball team.
The Patriots senior had a run and an RBI–all the offense in a 2-0 win–that helped Penfield to a round one sectional win on Thursday. He scored the winning run in Penfield's extra inning stunner against top seeded Athena Friday. Finally, Emling went 3-3 with two RBIs and twirled a complete game with seven strikeouts as Penfield won for their third playoff game in three days.
By the way, the Patriots are the 16(!) seed in the Class AA playoffs and now sit two wins short of an all-time Cinderella story.
That's not all the greatness for this week's edition of Section Five Best. Cal-Mum's Emma Brogan won the high jump and triple jump at the Livingston County meet last week. She added a runner-up in the 100 meters. It all was good enough to earn Brogan LCAA Female Track Athlete of the Year honors.
In lacrosse, Connor Moore had an eight goal explosion for Irondequoit last Wednesday. He followed with four goals and three assists over the weekend as the Eagles won both games. Kiera Gioseffi closed her regular season with a pair of five goal games helping Canandaigua head into the playoffs hot.
Aimee Turner keeps getting her name called this spring. The Arcadia quarterback marched the titles into the flag football finals with a three touchdown performance in the semis that featured 250 total yards, including 179 on the ground.

Rams hold the NFL record for the most times as the last unbeaten team during a season

Rams hold the NFL record for the most times as the last unbeaten team during a season The Los Angeles Rams have been a very successful franchise throughout their time in the NFL. Although they have just two Super Bowls since 1999 and none before it, the Rams have been in the playoffs a lot. One of the more specific accomplishments the Rams have held is being the last unbeaten team in a season. According to FOX Sports' Ralph Vacchiano, the Rams have found themselves as the last team without a loss in any given season nine different times since 1965. Now, they've never gone undefeated (only the 1972 Miami Dolphins did that), but the Rams have been one of the best teams in those seasons they stood atop the standings. 1969 Los Angeles Rams : Started the season 11–0 but lost the final three regular-season games and lost in the playoffs to the Minnesota Vikings. : Started the season 11–0 but lost the final three regular-season games and lost in the playoffs to the Minnesota Vikings. 1970 Los Angeles Rams : Began the year 3–0 but faded down the stretch, finishing 9–4–1 and missed the playoffs. : Began the year 3–0 but faded down the stretch, finishing 9–4–1 and missed the playoffs. 1978 Los Angeles Rams : Jumped out to a 7–0 start before their first loss, ended the season 12–4 and lost in the NFC Championship Game. : Jumped out to a 7–0 start before their first loss, ended the season 12–4 and lost in the NFC Championship Game. 1985 Los Angeles Rams : Opened 7–0, ended 11–5 and reached the NFC Championship Game. : Opened 7–0, ended 11–5 and reached the NFC Championship Game. 1989 Los Angeles Rams : Went 5–0 to begin the season, finished 11–5 and lost in the NFC Championship Game to the eventual Super Bowl champion 49ers. : Went 5–0 to begin the season, finished 11–5 and lost in the NFC Championship Game to the eventual Super Bowl champion 49ers. 1999 St. Louis Rams : Began 6–0, finished 13–3 and won Super Bowl XXXIV over the Titans. : Began 6–0, finished 13–3 and won Super Bowl XXXIV over the Titans. 2001 St. Louis Rams : Started 6–0, finished 14–2 and lost Super Bowl XXXVI to the Patriots. : Started 6–0, finished 14–2 and lost Super Bowl XXXVI to the Patriots. 2018 Los Angeles Rams: Opened 8–0 before a shootout loss to the Saints; finished 13–3 and lost Super Bowl LIII to the Patriots in a low-scoring affair. Will the Rams add to this list in 2025? It will be tough considering they play the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.

Defensive coach filling in as Patriots DC revealed as longtime assistant

Zak Kuhr has taken over some of the defensive coordinator duties with Terrell Williams out due to health reasons. There is currently no timeline for Williams' return, although he has stayed in contact with the coaches and players through Zoom. However, Kuhr noted that he was an extension of Williams and Patriots coach Mike Vrabel, and he has worked hard to echo their message. Advertisement Kuhr was an assistant under Vrabel with the Tennessee Titans as a quality control coach and an assistant inside linebackers coach. The two reunited with Vrabel landing the job in New England and Kuhr being brought in as a defensive assistant. This news comes in the final week of OTAs for the Patriots. There is hope that Williams makes a full recovery and returns as the defensive coordinator, but Kuhr's role could be extended if that isn't the case. The personnel on defense has improved significantly, but Kuhr and Williams will have their work cut out for them in turning things around. The Patriots ranked 22nd in total yards allowed per game with an average of 342.9 yards last season, and they also ranked 22nd in points with an average of 24.5 points allowed per game. Advertisement They will have a chance to turn the page with both Vrabel and Williams being strong defensive minds. However, while Williams is gone, Kuhr has a chance to add his imprint on the unit early ahead of training camp. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
