‘She doesn't eat dhoklas': Mahua Moitra fires back after PM Modi invokes Maa Kali at Bengal rally

Mint19-07-2025
Trinamool Congress party (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra took a sharp jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for invoking Goddess Kali while addressing a rally in West Bengal's Durgapur on Friday, calling his attempt to woo Bengali voters a 'bit late," and that the Goddess 'does not eat dhoklas.'
Shifting from his usual 'Jai Shri Ram' to greet crowds, PM Modi addressed the Bengal rally with 'Jai Maa Kali, Jai Maa Durga.'
Taking a swipe at the same, Mahua Moitra posted on X: "Bit late in the day to start invoking Maa Kali for Bengali votes PM Modi. She doesn't eat dhoklas and never will." Mahua Moitra's post on X
In 2022, Mahua Moitra sparked a political firestorm when she described Goddess Kali as a 'meat-eating and alcohol-accepting' deity — a remark that triggered nationwide outrage and led to an FIR being filed against her. The comment drew sharp criticism from BJP leaders, who accused her of hurting religious sentiments.

'I will not speak in English': BJP's Nishikant Dubey on Tamil Nadu MPs request in LS amid glitch in translating system

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, on Tuesday, refused to speak in English, rejecting Tamil Nadu MPs request in Lok Sabha amid a glitch in translating system. He further claimed that the MPs 'only had a problem with Hindi.' The BJP MP made the comments in the Lok Sabha after after Tamil Nadu MPs requested Nishikant Dubey to speak in English following a a technical glitch in the translator (system) in the Lok Sabha. Responding to them, Dubey said "...It would have been better if you had asked me to speak in Tamil or Bengali. English is a foreign language, and your insistence on it reflects your mindset. Someone spoke in Bengali for half an hour, yet Tamil Nadu MPs didn't object. You only have a problem with Hindi. Congress and its allies don't like North Indians or Hindi. If you keep promoting English, we'll end up becoming England. 'Hum phir se gulaam ho jayenge' (We will become slaves again)..." During the Monsoon Session of the Parliament on Tuesday, several leaders launched scathing attacks on the government about India's Operation Sindoor in the aftermath of the brutal Pahalgam terror attack in April that killed 26 people. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said the launch of Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam attack was a "symbol of the government's intelligence failure". Uttar Pradesh's former chief minister also said that India's foreign policy has 'completely collapsed,' while labelling China as a 'monster' that will "gobble up our (India's) land and market". "Who will take responsibility for the intelligence lapse in the Pahalgam attack?' Akhilesh Yadav said about the tragedy. Rahul Gandhi also took a swipe at the government, daring PM Modi to call 'Trump a liar,' referring to the POTUS's repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. While India has consistently denied these assertions, the US President continues to highlight his alleged role in de-escalating tensions between the two nations following the Pahalgam terror attack. Following Rahul Gandhi's claims, PM Modi while addressing the Lok Sabha, refuted claims made by US President Donald Trump regarding his role in halting India's military action against Pakistan. He said said no world leader asked India to stop its military action against Pakistan during 'Operation Sindoor' after four days of conflict in May in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.

No trafficking or conversion: Kerala BJP backs nuns arrested in Chhattisgarh

The Kerala unit of the BJP has come out in support of the Malayali nuns who were arrested in Chhattisgarh, asserting that the incident was neither a case of religious conversion nor human trafficking, but a misunderstanding caused by technical state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, addressing the media and posting on social media platform X, said he had spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and received complete clarity on the case. 'I have 100 per cent belief that it's a misunderstanding and a case of miscommunication,' Chandrasekhar said. He added that while the case was initially treated as human trafficking, the situation appears to be a lapse in registration under the Private Placement Agencies Regulation I understand is that they have not registered on the required portal. But it is certainly not a case of trafficking or religious conversion,' he clarified. This statement comes shortly after Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai defended the arrests, citing the state's anti-conversion law, which is in place due to its significant tribal Chandrasekhar also said the Kerala BJP has taken proactive steps, with State General Secretary Anoop Antony already in Chhattisgarh to offer legal and logistical support to the arrested nuns. 'We are committed to ensuring that all necessary assistance is provided to secure justice for the nuns under arrest. The BJP will stand by the nuns until they are released and justice is delivered,' he said.- EndsMust Watch IN THIS STORY#Kerala
