
Axis-REIT lodges RM3bil Sukuk programme for expansion
KUALA LUMPUR: Axis Real Estate Investment Trust's (Axis-REIT) trustee, RHB Trustees Bhd, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Axis REIT Sukuk Two Bhd, has lodged a Sukuk Programme with the Securities Commission Malaysia with an aggregate nominal value of up to RM3 billion.
In a Bursa Malaysia filing today, Axis-REIT said that the Sukuk Programme, based on the Shariah principle of Wakalah Bi Al-Istithmar, allows for the issuance of Senior Islamic Medium Term Notes (Senior Sukuk) and Subordinated Perpetual Islamic Notes (Perpetual Sukuk).
"The proceeds to be raised from the Sukuk issuance will be used to, among others, support Axis-REIT's capital and development expenditure, working capital requirements, refinancing its existing or future Islamic financing, as well as other general corporate purposes," it said.
Leong Kit May, chief executive officer and executive director of Axis REIT Managers Bhd, the manager of Axis-REIT, said, "We have secured our maiden credit ratings from RAM Ratings Services Bhd, which recognises Axis-REIT's resilient fundamentals and steady growth trajectory over the years.
"The Sukuk Programme forms a key part of our prudent capital management strategy as it allows us to diversify our funding sources and optimise financing costs in a disciplined manner," she said.
RAM Ratings has assigned long-term ratings of AA2(s) for the Senior Sukuk and A1(s) for the Perpetual Sukuk, both with a stable outlook, reflecting Axis-REIT's strong credit profile and proven operating track record.
This also marks a significant milestone for Axis-REIT as it is the first time it has received inaugural credit ratings based on its corporate credit strength.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — A Tan Sri under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for alleged misuse of sukuk funds involving a Klang Valley highway project is expected to be questioned soon. The individual, believed to be a highway concession holder, was recently discharged from a private hospital and is also being probed over foreign assets and high-stakes gambling activities involving millions of ringgit. According to a report by Astro Awani, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the Tan Sri has not yet given a statement due to his recent medical treatment. 'A statement has not yet been recorded from the Tan Sri, but I have been informed that doctors have recently allowed him to be discharged. My officers will be contacting him soon to arrange an appointment,' Azam said yesterday. He added that although the Tan Sri is considered a key individual in the case, MACC has already recorded statements from 45 other witnesses. 'He is indeed one of the individuals we have yet to question, but we already have testimonies from other witnesses. I cannot confirm whether additional witnesses will be required after his statement,' he said. Sources said MACC had obtained medical confirmation from the doctor on the Tan Sri's condition before arranging to question him. The investigation centres on the suspected misappropriation of sukuk bond funds that were meant for the construction of a highway. On June 3 last year, MACC disclosed that it had seized about RM143 million in assets from the individual as part of its probe. The seized items included 14 personal bank accounts with RM4.5 million, eight company accounts holding RM33 million, a luxury condominium and a parcel of land worth RM24.5 million, nine luxury vehicles valued at RM7.65 million, designer watches worth around RM25 million, handbags worth RM3 million, and jewellery and diamonds estimated at RM6 million. MACC also seized four horses valued at RM400,000, high-end alcoholic beverages worth RM3 million, foreign assets estimated at over RM15 million, and assets linked to gambling activities involving about RM20 million. Azam said asset declaration notices have been served to the Tan Sri and other related parties.

CPO Futures likely to trade with slight downside bias next week
KUALA LUMPUR: The crude palm oil (CPO) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives is expected to trade with a slight downside bias next week, amid rising output and stock levels, said a trader. Palm oil trader David Ng noted that the market is currently entering a seasonally higher production period, which typically begins in April and extends through September or October -- a period during which output typically increases, leading to a corresponding rise in stock levels. "We expect the commodity to trade between RM3,720 per tonne and RM3,950 per tonne," he told Bernama. Meanwhile, Interband Group of Companies senior palm oil trader Jim Teh expects the market to experience profit-taking, with prices likely to trade between RM3,700 per tonne and RM3,800 per tonne. "Stock-wise, the market will be closely watching the Malaysian Palm Oil Board data, which is scheduled for release on June 10," he said. In terms of demand, Teh noted that physical buying is expected from China, India, Pakistan, the Middle East, the European Union countries, and little buying from the United States. "Production-wise, the good weather conditions suggest that CPO output is likely to increase," he added. On a Friday-to-Friday basis, the spot-month June 2025 contract rose RM23 to RM3,911 per tonne, while July 2025 and August 2025 added RM39 each to RM3,930 per tonne and RM3,917 per tonne, respectively. September 2025 rose RM36 to RM3,906 per tonne, October 2025 increased RM29 to RM3,899 per tonne, and November 2025 went up RM25 to RM3,899 per tonne. The weekly trading volume advanced to 290,679 lots from 281,987 lots the previous week, while open interest edged down to 241,688 contracts from 241,994 contracts. CPO Futures End Lower On Rising Output Concerns

He said weaker soybean oil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade during Asian trading hours also weighed on market sentiment. 'The rising production is mainly due to seasonality. We see prices supported at RM3,800 per tonne and resistance at RM4,000 per tonne,' he told Bernama. At the close, the spot-month June 2025 and July 2025 contracts dropped RM42 each to RM3,904 per tonne and RM3,923 per tonne, respectively. August 2025 fell RM45 to RM3,903 per tonne, September 2025 and October 2025 declined RM47 each to RM3,890 per tonne and RM3,886 per tonne respectively, and November 2025 reduced RM40 to RM3,891 per tonne. Trading volume improved to 64,761 lots from 59,422 lots yesterday, while open interest edged up to 245,562 contracts from 245,345 contracts previously.
