NBA All-Star 2025: Stephen Curry makes spectacular backward, no-look half-court shot at practice
NBA All-Star weekend is supposed to be fun, right? Stephen Curry reminded fans at his former home arena of Oakland's Oracle Arena during practice and media availability on Saturday, swishing a shot that many of us would try but not even come close to making.
While goofing around, Curry hit a no-look backward shot from half-court. Of course, the Golden State Warriors superstar made it look easy too. And right after former teammate Kevin Durant airballed his attempt of the same shot.
Curry's jubilant skip around the court after hitting the fancy trick shot added to the joy of the moment. This man is enjoying his basketball life.

A slightly wider look of the shot shows Damian Lillard attempting to look unimpressed. Maybe he knew he wouldn't make that circus play. Or perhaps he was focused on Saturday's 3-Point Contest and winning for the third consecutive year.

Curry, 36, isn't participating in the contest which he's won twice. Nor will he compete against New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu in a rematch of their 3-point shootout from last year's All-Star weekend. Yet as the NBA is looking for more exciting events to boost All-Star festivities, maybe Curry's dazzling shot reminded the league that bringing back the H-O-R-S-E competition would be fun.
Or would Curry just win a H-O-R-S-E contest every year? He'd probably do so even after retiring as an active player.
A H-O-R-S-E competition was once part of NBA All-Star weekend, but for only two years. Durant won both of those contests. Yet it hasn't been part of the festivities since 2010. (Curry was a rookie that season.) NBA players did participate in a virtual H-O-R-S-E contest during 2020 while in quarantine at their homes. Mike Conley Jr. beat Zach LaVine in that challenge, which raised $200,000 for charity.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Tuesday that the Knicks fired Thibodeau despite leading the team to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000. "I guess he kind of adds to complete that every coach of the year, from '18 to '23 has kind of found degrees of success," Johnson continued. "Kind of in the midst of it, being let go, but you kind of got to look at it from a team-building perspective. That team is a really good roster, and they're really close. So, I guess maybe ownership, front-office is just looking at it like, What can get us over the hump? I guess that's the best solution they had." As Johnson alluded to in his reaction, Thibodeau continues a line of coaches that have been fired recently despite either having good track records in their career or with their team having a good record. Since the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign, Thibodeau joins Mike Brown, Taylor Jenkins, Mike Malone, and Mike Budenholzer as the coaches that were shown the door. While Thibodeau had his flaws when it came to distributing minutes amongst his rotation and adapting to adjustments made by opposing teams in real-time, he still took the Knicks farther than they had been in a quarter-century. Johnson, who is paying attention to the NBA outside of his involvement with the Nets, understands that Thibodeau may have needed to go, but also sees that the Knicks may be close enough that a coaching change could be all that is needed for New York to get to the Finals eventually.

Miami in the thick of it for in-state WR Somourian Wingo Jr.
The Miami Hurricanes have hosted Somourian Wingo several times over the last two years. But last weekend he was able to take in campus in an official visit capacity and it offered more depth for the St. Augustine (Fla.) High School wide receiver to take in. Advertisement "In the meetings, spending time with academics and going over all of that gave a better understanding of how it would be," Wingo said. "All the people stood out -- the staff, the players. It's always a good time being here spending time with the players and coaches, it's a blessing more than anything. "It was about adding on to what we know, plus that I'd have a lot of fun here. It was more about having fun instead of being strictly a football player. They showed that." The well-rounded trip to South Florida also came with more sit-downs from assistant coaches under Mario Cristobal, including wide receivers coach Kevin Beard. "The bond always strengthens when I'm around KB," Wingo said. "Especially this weekend, being around him with my family. Showing that he can be that same person around my family, my siblings... "Now everywhere I go they got to know they have to give it 110 percent and show they really want me just as Miami did."
