Recently, Bihar has witnessed a spike in the shooting incidents, with the latest being reported in Chapra district four days back, where a local hardware shop owner was shot dead.
A local scrap dealer, identified as Gulab, was shot dead in Muzaffarpur, sparking an outrage in the area. Locals of the area protested by placing the victim's body on National Highway 28 (NH-28), effectively blocking the road and disrupting traffic.
The situation quickly escalated as an agitated mob later set the house of the accused on fire. Police teams from several nearby stations, along with SDPO Town 2, Vineeta Sinha, rushed to the scene to control the crowd.
The police are currently investigating the matter, and efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible for the violence.
The incident comes only four days after a hardware shop owner was shot dead in Chapra district on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Roshan Singh, a resident of Hansrajpur village.
Several similar incidents have been reported across the state recently.
On July 4, BJP leader and businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead outside his residence in Bihar's Patna
Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital for emergency care.
In another shooting incident in Bihar, a murder convict, out on parole for medical reasons, was shot dead inside a top private hospital in Patna. He was identified as Chandan Mishra. The police arrested all four accused on Sunday.
'On 17th July, Chandan Mishra was shot dead in the hospital. The shooters fled to different places after committing the crime. While starting the investigation, raids were conducted by the Patna Police at various places, and many people were questioned. The main shooter, Tausif, was arrested in Kolkata. Kolkata Police and Kolkata STF gave us very commendable support, and due to that support, Tausif was arrested in Kolkata. Along with Tausif, 3 other people were also found there who had a role in this conspiracy…He has been booked in NDPS, Arms Act and attempt to murder cases in the past. Nishu Khan has also been booked in extortion and Arms Act cases in the past, with him his Harsh and Bheem arrested…All 4 of the accused have been arrested in Kolkata…," SSP Kartikey K Sharma had said.

Opposition parties satirise Suresh Gopi's ‘absenteeism' from his constituency; KSU files missing person complaint

The ruling front and opposition in Kerala are resorting to biting political satire to turn a harsh spotlight on Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Suresh Gopi's, allegedly high levels of absenteeism from his Lok Sabha constituency in Thrissur and the MP's 'noticiable silence' on the arrest of Kerala nuns in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Chhattisgarh on 'dubious' charges of human trafficking for conversion to Christianity. The Kerala Students' Union (KSU), affiliated to the Congress, filed a missing person complaint at the East Police Station in Thrissur on Sunday (August 10, 2025). KSU activists will paste look-out notices for Mr. Gopi across the Lok Sabha constituency. The KSU will file a writ of habeas corpus in the High Court on Monday (August 11, 2025), seeking the 'missing MP's' production in court. Church leaders also chimed in, with the Thrissur Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church Metropolitan, Yuhanon Mar Meletius, sarcastically quipping on social media: 'We in Thrissur elected and sent an actor to New Delhi. He has disappeared since. Wondering whether we should inform the police'. General Education Minister and Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State committee member V. Sivankutty wrote on Facebook: 'Posters are appearing in Thrissur for a missing person'. KSU district president, Thrissur, Gokul Guruvayoor, told The Hindu that Mr. Gopi had denied his constituents committed representation. He said the veteran actor had won the constituency by leveraging the Christian community's electoral influence in Thrissur and projecting his on-screen persona as a hyper-masculine superhero fighting injustice. 'However, Mr. Gopi has remained defiantly silent about the unjust arrests of the senior sisters. The pro-Christian image Mr. Gopi and the BJP sold to voters through demonstrative acts of piety in Churches, including offering a golden circlet to Mother Mary, seemed not to match reality,' Mr Gokul said. Mr. Gokul said KSU activists had enquired about Mr. Gopi at the latter's local office at Perinkavu. 'The staff had no clue about Mr Gopi's whereabouts, and their answers seemed desperately opaque. Thrissur voters feel betrayed', he said. BJP leaders appeared to be loath to comment on Mr Gopi's alleged truancy publicly. Nevertheless, a party insider conceded that the 'escalating campaign' targeting Mr Gopi might not augur well for the BJP's strengthening relationship with the Church. 'Mr Gopi's constitutional office prevents him from publicly commenting on a matter still sub judice. However, like his fellow Union Minister from Kerala, George Kurian, Mr. Gopi might have personally reached out to Church leaders and members of the laity', he added.

Teenager electrocuted on school campus to get new house in Kerala

Kollam (Kerala), Aug 10 (PTI) The family of a 13-year-old student who was electrocuted at an aided school campus last month will soon get a new house, with Kerala General Education Minister V Sivankutty laying the foundation stone here on Sunday. Mithun, a student of Thevalakkara Boys High School in Kollam district, died after coming into contact with a live electric wire on the school premises. Opposition parties had criticised the state government and the General Education Department over the incident. The new house will be built in the same locality where the family currently lives, the minister's office said in a statement. The project is being implemented under the aegis of the Kerala Scouts and Guides, of which Sivankutty is the state president. The 1,000 sq ft house, comprising three bedrooms and other amenities, will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh. The government aims to complete the work and hand over the keys within four months. Apart from the house, the government has announced various financial assistance measures for the family. These include Rs 10 lakh each from the state government and the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), Rs 11 lakh from the Kerala School Teachers' Association (KSTA), and Rs 3 lakh from the General Education Department. The educational expenses of Mithun's brother will also be fully covered by the department, Sivankutty said. Local representatives and officials were present during the foundation stone ceremony.
