B.C. Highway Patrol dashcam captures consequences of unsafe driving
A patrol officer was driving on Mackenzie Avenue South on July 20 when they noticed two drivers passing them who were not wearing seatbelts.
The officer turned around to pull them over and then watched as the driver of a Toyota Camry drove into the back of the Ford F250 in front as both of the vehicles stopped on the side of the road.

The 28-year-old man behind the wheel of the Camry failed a breathalyzer test.
'The BC Highway Patrol officer started by checking the driver of the Toyota Camry,' Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol said in a statement.
'His head was bleeding liberally after smashing his own windshield. The driver blew two fail readings on an Approved Screening Device. Those readings were evidence that he was impaired by alcohol.'

The driver is facing a driving prohibition and two tickets and his vehicle was impounded.
The driver of the truck was ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt.

Prosecutors stay charge for man convicted in 1987 killing, says Innocence Canada
The group representing an Alberta man who spent decades in prison for the death of an Edmonton woman says his charge has been stayed. Innocence Canada says Roy Allan Sobotiak was to appear in court Friday to set a date for his new trial, but says the Crown Prosecution Service stayed his second-degree murder charge. BC Highway Patrol seeking witnesses after fatal Vancouver Island crash

(CTV News) Mounties in the Comox Valley are asking the public for help as they investigate a fatal collision that occurred near Fanny Bay Thursday afternoon. The multi-vehicle crash occurred on Highway 19A around 4 p.m., the B.C. RCMP said in a news release Friday evening. Police did not specify how many vehicles were involved, but said two of them were towing trailers. 'One man was badly injured in the collision and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries,' the release reads. 'A suspect was arrested on scene, and it is believed alcohol was a factor in the collision.' The suspect has since been released, police added. BC Highway Patrol Campbell River is leading the investigation, which is 'currently in its infancy,' according to police. 'We are seeking any witness or people with dash camera footage who have been travelling on Highway 19A in Fanny Bay between the Fanny Bay Wharf and the Rosewall log sort,' said Cpl. Brett Urano, in the release. 'If you were travelling in this area on July 31 between the hours of 3:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. and have not spoken to an investigator please contact us at 250-286-5690.'
