Jet2 has stepped in with an offer of £100 off holidays to Bulgaria, aiming to assist customers affected by the sudden shutdown of Balkan Holidays. The deal is designed to simplify the process for those looking to rearrange their travel plans.
Balkan Holidays, an award-winning operator established in 1966 and known for its focus on the Balkan region, including Bulgaria, Croatia, and Montenegro, announced its immediate cessation of operations on April 24. Despite the closure, the company assured that holidaymakers currently abroad would not face any disruptions.
A spokesperson for Balkan Holidays stated: "We regret to inform you that Balkan Holidays Ltd has, as of 24th of April 2025, closed for business in the UK. Clients currently on holiday will be unaffected."
They added, "The company remains solvent, but has ceased trading, however all forward holiday bookings have been cancelled."
The spokesperson also requested patience from clients awaiting refunds and expressed gratitude for past business, along with apologies for any disappointment caused, reports the Manchester Evening News.
In response to the situation, Jet2holidays has introduced a special discount, offering £100 off Bulgarian getaways this summer and the next for myJet2 account holders, with a slightly smaller discount of £90 for non-members. Additionally, this saving can be used in conjunction with Jet2's Free Child Place Holidays promotion.
Jet2holidays CEO Steve Heapy commented on the closure, saying: "The closure of Balkan Holidays is very sad news indeed, and our thoughts are with everyone who is impacted.
"We know there are many customers wanting to enjoy their well-deserved holidays to the Bulgarian sunshine, so we are making it easier for them by offering them money off, as well as a simple and easy way to book."
