Legendary coach warns Dodgers why they're risking Shohei Ohtani's future by letting him pitch
Ohtani is one of the greatest talents to ever wear baseball cleats. Not just because he is an exceptional hitter, but because he is an All-Star-level pitcher. The Japanese superstar loves doing both, and the team has allowed him to work his way back to the mound to be a part of the pitching staff. However, legendary pitching coach Dr. Tom House believes he and the team are playing with fire by still thinking he has a future on the mound.

'No,' Dr. House said when asked by Pablo Torres recently if Ohtani should keep pitching. 'I think he's a hitter. He's proven all he needs to as a pitcher. I think his value to the ball club is on the field every day. I hope I am wrong [but] I don't think his shoulder can handle it… It's a combination of a bunch of stuff.
'Primarily, the thresholds with heavy weight training are good for hitting, but not for pitching. The everyday stresses of throwing downhill. When you throw on flat ground, the most energy you develop is four times body weight. It's four pounds of energy. When you go down a mound, you get about six times body weight. I don't think his shoulders can handle the deceleration.'

Dr. House admits he hasn't worked with Ohtani and is only seeing things from afar. He does believe his mechanics are sound and his mental makeup is strong. But he doesn't feel his body can hold up doing both. The doctor and former pitching coach's opinion should be taken seriously.

Dr. House is a legend in MLB circles and is known as the 'father of modern pitching mechanics' and a 'professor of throwing' due to his expertise in blending pitching with the science of arm mechanics. During his career, he worked with Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan and even NFL legends Drew Brees and Tom Brady.
Ohtani has made four appearances as a reliever this season. There have been rumblings that his future could be as a closer. However, there have been many around the game who have previously suggested he should not pitch. And instead, play the outfield. His arm and athleticism could make him a gold-glove winner.
It is something the team should seriously consider, especially if experts suggest there are huge dangers in his pitching. The Dodgers still have eight more seasons and over $500 million invested in the three-time MVP.

Minnesota Twins pitcher David Festa talks tweaks to his game
Every big leaguer has a different plan for the All-Star break. Minnesota Twins pitcher David Festa's itinerary features a return to the Garden State. "I'm gonna head home to New Jersey, where I'm from," said Festa. "Hang out with some friends, my girlfriend. And then go down to the shore for a couple days, the Jersey Shore, which is where I loved spending my summers when I was younger. It'll be cool to relax for a couple days. But you know, get right back to work." Festa has been working. Recently, making a lower body mechanical tweak, that has helped him allow just six total runs over his last three starts. "Overall, I think it's helped with command and efficiency. Just happy I'm able to lately go deeper into games," said Festa, who made his major league debut last summer. "Obviously, the results are better, too. Bouncing back after that Milwaukee outing, I'm happy with how things are going." Festa has been called up twice this year from AAA St. Paul. The most recent extended stint with the Twins has included two disastrous games with eight runs allowed in each. "Those type of outings happen," said Festa. "But it's about stacking good ones. For me, I still think I'm a little too inconsistent right now. But I think I'm not too far off for where I can find my stride. Go on a good run." With two Twins starting pitchers (Zebby Matthew and later Pablo Lopez) set to return from injury in the second half of the season, Festa needs to hone in on every detail to make ensure his spot in the rotation is safe. "The littlest things matter. Especially for me, someone with a lot of moving parts in his delivery," said Festa. If I'm off a little bit, it's good for the staff of somebody to remind me or cue me back up."

NFL top 10 QBs: Kyler Murray misses the cut but gets votes
Some believe that Murray is a top10 quarterback in the NFL. Opinions about Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray vary widely. Many think he is too short and that, while talented, he simply hasn't done enough and don't believe he can do enough to be a truly successful quarterback. Head coach Jonathan Gannon is a huge fan of his starting quarterback. In rankings of the top 10 quarterbacks in the league from ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, based on votes by coaches, scouts and executives, Murray is not in the top 10 of his position, but there are those who do believe he is. Of course, Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes is at the top, followed by the common three of Josh Allen , Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson. Murray did not make the top 10 and did not appear as one of the two who received honorable mention, but he was the first quarterback listed as one who also received votes in the top 10, joining Brock Purdy, Dak Prescott, Aaron Rodgers, Bo Nix and Tua Tagovailoa. 2025 is a big season for Murray. We have seen his MVP ceiling from his play in 2020 and 2021. Since then, his play has been inconsistent, sometimes playing at an elite level and other times very league average. The roster appears set for him to lead the Cardinals to the postseason. Can he turn back the clock to 2021 and find himself in the top 10 in 2026 when Fowler does this series again? It is certainly possible. There is also the possibility that the Cardinals move on from him next year.
