Major Samsung Galaxy Watch One UI 8 leak just tipped three big upgrades

Samsung is reportedly launching One UI 8 this summer for its smartphone devices, but wearables won't be left behind.
Earlier this week, leaker DevOfIpos revealed a number of One UI 8 features including an improved DeX. They also apparently found firmware for One UI 8 Watch and posted some their findings on X.
It looks to be a fairly substantial update for Samsung's Galaxy smartwatches. You may like
For starters, Samsung appears to be skipping versions 6.5 and 7 and heading straight to version 8.
Part of the leap includes new icons with the rounder style that Samsung introduced in One UI 7 for its handsets.

They also posted that Google's Gemini AI bot is replacing Google Assistant in the One UI 8 Watch update. It's been expected that Gemini will make its way into Wear OS, and it looks like Wear OS 6 will be the first inkling of that. Reportedly, Gemini is functionally the same app as Assistant.
As part of the leak, APKs from the update were also put up by Ipos, which Android Authority went through. If you're interested in the code, they beak down APKs on a regular basis.

On a simpler level, the APKs reveal strings that hint at how Gemini will work, which seems a lot like how Assistant currently operates but with new AI tools.
The code has "Gemini Actions" listed, which include standard Gemini features like email summarization, managing calendar events or getting weather updates via queries. Antioxidant Index

Beyond Gemini, the APKs also revealed a new "antioxidant index" in the Samsung Health app. This measurement would allegedly measure beta carotene levels in your skin.
You would need to press that pad of your thumb against the back of your watch to trigger the measurement.
This feature is supposed to help you tailor your nutrition based on its measurements.
Interestingly, one of the code strings reads, "'Keep in mind that antioxidant index measurement is for fitness and wellness only, not for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition. If you're concerned about your antioxidant level, be sure to see a medical professional.'"
The APKs apparently held some images showcasing how this feature will work.
Google's annual developers conference, Google I/O 2025 is coming up at the end of the month and we expect to hear more about Wear OS 6 then, which One UI 8 Watch will be based on.
From there, Samsung should launch its Galaxy Watch 8 series of smartwatches, likely in July alongside One UI 8 and its foldable phones the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. More from Tom's Guide

Meanwhile, there are a few more details about the normal Flip 7. It's said that this foldable features 256GB and 512GB storage options, which is the same amount of storage in the Flip 6. Apparently, there are three available colors, which include blue, black, and 'Coral Red.' The Fold 7 may also come in three color variations, including 'Blue Shadow,' black, and silver. There's no information on the storage configurations for the Fold 7. Moving on to the smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 8 is reported to be available in 40mm and 44mm sizes and comes in 'Graphite' or silver. The Classic version, on the other hand, may sport black or white colors. Android 16 QPR1 may stop HDR 'flashbangs' with enhanced brightness controls

This upcoming feature will include both a toggle to disable HDR support entirely and a slider to adjust the intensity of HDR effects. It aims to prevent jarring brightness shifts from HDR media, a solution Samsung users already have with a similar feature in One UI 7. When you're using your smartphone at night, you probably prefer to keep its brightness low to avoid blinding yourself or disturbing your partner. However, if you come across HDR media at night, your phone may automatically boost its brightness to display the content properly. This sudden brightness shift can be jarring, which is why some apps offer options for disabling HDR media support. Google now aims to address this problem at the system level in an upcoming Android 16 release. Google is currently testing an 'Enhanced HDR brightness' setting that will allow you to control how much HDR content brightens your Pixel phone's screen. This setting, expected in an upcoming release under Settings > Display & touch > Enhanced HDR brightness, will include both a toggle to disable HDR support entirely as well as a slider to adjust the HDR effect's intensity. Demonstrating this feature on camera is challenging, but it's easy to describe what it does. Samsung Urges Galaxy Users to Update Anti-Theft Tools
Samsung is urging (literally) Samsung phone users across the UK to enable and update the latest anti-theft tools now available on Galaxy devices as part of a new public safety campaign. This week, over 40 million Samsung Account holders in the UK will get a public safety security message through Samsung's customer communication channels and the Samsung Members platform. Samsung has started to bring One UI 7 with security updates to quite a few Galaxy devices, and with this, they have added new theft-protection and security delay anti-robbery tools. These updates began with the Galaxy S25 series in February and are now reaching more Galaxy smartphones, including the S24, S23, S22 series, and Galaxy Z Fold and Flip models. The company is said to be working closely with the Home Office and industry partners to help address mobile phone theft and improve user safety. The One UI 7 update builds on existing protections with new anti-theft tools such as identity check, biometric authentication, and security delay. The new Theft Protection suite is made to keep personal data safe even in probable theft situations. It includes Theft Detection Lock, which uses machine learning to spot theft-like motions and instantly lock the screen, and Offline Device Lock, which locks the screen if the device is offline for a long time. Remote Lock lets users secure a stolen device using their phone number and a quick verification step. Anti-robbery additions in One UI 7 include Identity Check, which requires biometric authentication for sensitive changes in unfamiliar locations, and Security Delay, which triggers a one-hour pause before biometric data can be reset, giving users time to lock a stolen device from another device. Samsung says these tools are now available on several flagship devices, with additional updates planned.
