SCCL CMD N. Balram announces special committees to address losses in Shanthikhani and Adriyala Longwall Projects
Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) Chairman and Managing Director N. Balram has underscored the need for ramping up efforts by SCCL's General Managers to secure the mandatory permissions, mainly forest clearances, for new mines without delay.
Mr. Balram on Tuesday held one-on-one meetings with the General Managers of the 12 Areas of the company at the SCCL's head office in Kothagudem of Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
Key aspects related to the company's expansion plans, strategies for enhancing coal production with utmost priority for safety of the workforce and future plans were discussed extensively during the review meetings conducted by the SCCL CMD. The lengthy interactive sessions lasted for over 10 hours covering a thorough review of the current status of coal mines in all the 12 Areas of the company and the future mining projects, SCCL sources said.
He made it clear that without new mines, SCCL's areas like Yellandu, Manuguru and Bellampalli in the coal belt will face an uncertain future. It is imperative that the GMs play a proactive role to obtain the necessary permissions for the new mines swiftly, he told the GMs during the interactive sessions.
Highlighting the need for preventing losses in underground mines, he announced the formation of a special committee to address losses in the Shanthikhani and Adriyala Longwall Projects. He emphasised the need for optimum utilization of heavy machinery to boost productivity.
He also reviewed the status of coal production at Naini coal mine in Odisha.
He further suggested exploring the possibility of establishing a coal washery at Sathupalli in Khammam district.

2 arrested for trafficking drugs & arms near Bithoor
Kanpur: The crime branch arrested a gang leader and his accomplice near the Jungle Water Park in Bithoor for trafficking smack and charas from Barabanki, and arms from Munger, Bihar, on Tuesday. The gang leader, Balram Rajput, had previously sustained leg injuries in police encounters at Rail Bazar and Chakeri. He continued his illegal activities after being released on bail. Masquerading as a journalist, he was caught possessing 27.50 grams of smack, 920 grams of charas, two Munger-made pistols, and a news portal identification card. Both suspects were arrested on Tuesday. DCP Crime SM Qasim Abidi said that the suspects, Balram Rajput and Rajat Verma alias Howrah, hail from Lal Bangla Kazi Kheda. Balram, the operation's kingpin, had been trafficking narcotics from various regions for a decade, with recent supplies originating from Tikra village in Barabanki. After a six-week search by the crime branch and narcotics team, he was located near Chiran village in Bithoor. During interrogation, Balram disclosed his business model--purchasing hashish at Rs 1.30 lakh per kilogram and retailing it for two to two and a half lakh rupees. He acquired smack at Rs 1.10 lakh for 50 grams, selling it for Rs two lakh. Additionally, he revealed meeting Anshu, a Buxar resident, while in prison. This connection led to Balram's involvement in arms trafficking, making over ten visits to Buxar and procuring more than 20 pistols from Munger. He purchased each pistol for Rs 35,000 and sold them locally for Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000.

Plans are afoot to expand the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) on a global scale in a phenomenal manner, said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, also Energy and Finance Minister. Speaking after inaugurating the SCCL General Manager's office and a workshop in the coal town of Kothagudem, on Saturday, he said, 'We have appointed experts to gather the necessary information and make recommendations for this expansion. Once we receive the report, we will initiate the action plan.' Mr. Vikramarka said, 'SCCL, with over a hundred years of experience in coal mining, is being considered for profitable ventures in technical and mineral excavation.' New mines are ready to extract 22 million tonnes of coal over the next 30 years, he noted, referring to the expansion and diversification plans of SCCL. Emphasising on the safety and welfare of the workforce, he said, 'The primary goal is the safety of Singareni workers – business comes only after that. SCCL is providing ₹1 crore accident insurance cover along with compassionate appointments to SCCL workers.' Meanwhile, addressing the Telangana Adivasi Congress workers' meeting in Palvancha, he hit out at the previous BRS government accusing it of failing to utilise the SC/ST Sub-Plan funds. 'In the current Praja government, we are spending every rupee of Sub-Plan funds with precision. Under the Sub-Plan, ₹17,169 crore has been allocated for tribals this fiscal. Additionally, ₹1,296 crore unspent funds from the past have been carried forward,' he said. In 2006, the then Congress-led Central government issued land titles to tribals cultivating forest lands, he recalled, adding that the current Congress dispensation in Telangana allocated funds for tribals to live with dignity in line with the party's Nallamala Declaration. He reminded that during his tenure as Deputy Speaker in united Andhra Pradesh, he ensured that the SC/ST Sub-Plan Act was passed in the Assembly. He added that the Indira Saura Giri Jala Vikasam scheme envisages irrigation facilities to 6.7 lakh acres of tribal land besides offering free pumpsets and plants like avocado and oil palm.
