I am the shark whisperer — but my critics call me ‘plain old crazy'

Times07-07-2025
From the brilliant azure of the Pacific Ocean emerges a giant of the deep, its black eyes and pale belly gliding silently through the water.
For most, the sight of an approaching great white shark would trigger terror and an urge to escape as quickly as possible.
But Ocean Ramsey is not like most swimmers. She is a 'shark influencer', a former model who posts viral videos of her petting the terrifying maneaters to her 2.2 million followers on Instagram.
Now her work is the subject of a Netflix documentary by an Oscar-winning director, titled Shark Whisperer, that has drawn withering denunciation from critics.
In the eyes of her fans, she is a heroic campaigner for animal welfare. To wildlife experts, she is a shameless self-promoter who glamorises reckless risk-taking and puts lives in danger.

Justin Bieber impersonator tricks his way in Vegas nightclub and performs for crowd

A man has been banned from all Wynn properties after successfully convincing management at the XS Nightclub in Las Vegas Saturday that he was Justin Bieber - then taking the stage in the pop superstar's name. The impersonator was indefinitely banished from re-entering any of the company's portfolio of properties, Wynn officials told TMZ in a statement on Monday. 'As soon as the error was recognized, he was removed from the resort and denied future entry,' Wynn officials told the outlet. The situation involving the doppelgänger of the two-time Grammy-winner, 31, unfolded in Sin City over the weekend, Wynn officials said. The impersonator and his collaborators reached out to people at the club with an 'elaborate and multi-step ruse' to convince them the impersonator was really Bieber, Wynn officials told the outlet. After the impersonator and his team successfully persuaded club management that the man really was the Canadian superstar, 'the impersonator was granted access to the XS stage,' officials said. They told club officials Bieber would be on hand - and was interested in getting involved in that night's show, according to DJ Gryffin, who worked at the XS Nightclub this past weekend. Gryffin had a sense of humor about the incident as he took to Instagram with a narrative of the strange series of events. The DJ, 37, conceded that even he was convinced that he was crossing paths with the Peaches vocalist. Gryffin welcomed the impersonator into his DJ booth at the trendy venue. Eventually, club staffers caught on to the ruse and ejected the impersonator from the property. Gryffin had a sense of humor about the incident, sharing a narrative of what had happened by Instagram. Gryffin said that 'the place went wild' for who they thought was Justin Bieber, and expressed his own level of shock when he was informed of the elaborate prank. The incident also had fans on Reddit talking, with the prevailing sentiment that having slightest resemblance to a famous person can work wonders during one's trip to Sin City - a city renown for playing host to big name stars from all around the globe. 'I knew someone who went to Vegas once and EVERYONE thought he was James Blunt, so he pretended he was and got VIP treatment in a bunch of places,' one user said in reference to the You're Beautiful singer. As autumn approaches, it's safe to say Bieber is wrapping summer on a strong note in the wake of the release of his latest album Swag; and a newfound solidarity in his marriage to wife Hailey, 28. The Peaches vocalist currently appears to be on much firmer ground with the supermodel, with whom he shares son Jack, who celebrates his first birthday August 22. While Hailey had been seen in public without her wedding ring in June, the couple appeared to be on affectionate terms when they were seen in Switzerland in July. This past May, reps for Bieber issued a clear denial that he had been abused by Sean ' Diddy ' Combs when he was younger. Bieber was among the guests in attendance at a raucous 2014 bash attended by Diddy, Cassie, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and a number of other celebs in shots Diddy posted and deleted more than a decade ago. On May 15, Bieber's team issued the following statement to TMZ amid Combs' ongoing criminal trial. 'Although Justin is not among Sean Combs' victims, there are individuals who were genuinely harmed by him,' a rep for the musical artist told the outlet May 15. 'Shifting focus away from this reality detracts from the justice these victims rightfully deserve.' Bieber sold rights to his catalog for $200 million in 2023, the Los Angeles Times reported. Bieber's most recent studio album prior to Swag was Justice in 2021. The album garnered critical acclaim and spawned successful commercial tracks such as Peaches, a Billboard Hot 200 chart-topper; and the top 10 hits Holy, Anyone and Ghost. Bieber in February of 2023 officially canceled the remainder of his Justice World Tour after the singer said he was diagnosed with the condition Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which can lead to facial paralysis. Bieber had previously had to cancel shows on the tour in the fall of 2022, explaining his absences from the stage in an emotional post on his Instagram Stories. 'Earlier this year, I went public with my battle with Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome, where my face was partially paralyzed,' he said. 'As a result of this illness, I was not able to complete the North American leg of the Justice Tour. He said that he suffered health woes after performing a set at the Rock in Rio festival. 'After getting off stage, the exhaustion overtook me and I realized that I need to make my health the priority right now,' he said. 'So I'm going to take a break from touring for the time being. I'm going to be OK, but I need time to rest and get better. 'I've been so proud to bring this show and our message of Justice to the world. Thank you for your prayers and support throughout all of this! I love you all passionately!'
