Noida cop murder case: Ghaziabad police announces rewards for those on run
The Ghaziabad police on Saturday announced a reward of ₹25,000 each for information leading to the arrest of four absconding suspects allegedly involved in the mob attack that led to the killing of Noida police constable Saurabh Kumar on the night of May 25 in Nahal village, officials said.
A seven-member Noida police team had arrived at Nahal village around 11pm on May 25 to arrest Qadir, who was a suspect in the theft of a music system and ECM from a Verna car. The theft allegedly occurred on the night of May 2–3, and a first information report (FIR) was lodged at Phase 3 police station in Noida on May 21 against an unidentified person.
The Noida police, in their FIR lodged at Masuri police station in Ghaziabad on May 26, stated that they were attacked twice by a mob that resorted to indiscriminate firing, during which Constable Saurabh was shot in the head and killed.
'The CCTV footage which we recovered has indicated that there were about 25–30 persons in the mob. They resorted to pelting stones at the police team. The videos available with us to date show that no one had any firearms or weapons with them,' said Surendra Nath Tiwary, DCP (Rural Zone), Ghaziabad.
Tiwary added that 15 people, including Qadir and his brother Adil, have been arrested, while four others remain absconding. 'We have announced a reward of ₹25,000 each for their arrest,' Tiwary said.
The Ghaziabad police maintained they were not formally informed by Noida police about the operation. They also said that only one bullet casing was recovered from the scene, even though Saurabh was shot from close range, according to the autopsy report.
'So far, we do not have evidence that could indicate that any of the arrested suspects fired a shot at Saurabh. Our investigation is continuing with eight teams, and we have roped in informers to locate any other video footage or clues,' Tiwary added.
The FIR has been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including murder, attempt to murder, rioting, assault on public servants, criminal conspiracy, and criminal intimidation, along with provisions under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act.

‘No locker breach': SBI denies jewellery theft allegation by Bengaluru woman
The State Bank of India (SBI) has refuted allegations of missing valuables from a locker at its Dollars Colony branch in Bengaluru, stating that all items reported as lost were later found during a police-led inspection. The clarification comes after a 54-year-old homemaker, Bindu CD, filed a complaint alleging that 145 grams of gold and diamond jewellery stored in her bank locker had gone missing. The bank said that certain items had been 'inadvertently overlooked' by the complainant as they were stored deep within the locker. The entire process was videographed by authorities to ensure transparency. Following standard procedure, the locker contents were temporarily taken into police custody, the statement said. 'All locker access protocols and security procedures at the Dollar Colony Branch were fully operational and uncompromised at all times,' the statement added. Earlier, Bindu had approached the bank multiple times and even escalated the issue to SBI's chief vigilance officer after she claimed the staff had not responded adequately. BERHAMPUR: Vigilance officials on Sunday arrested an assistant executive engineer of Roads and Buildings (Division-1) in Berhampur for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets worth around Rs 5 crore. Following a tip-off, Vigilance sleuths conducted simultaneous raids at multiple locations linked to the accused, N Dillip Kumar Choudhury, and his family members on Saturday. Sources said assets worth over Rs 4.9 crore were detected, which is around 119 per cent more than his income. Some of Choudhury's assets unearthed by the anti-corruption agency include a double-storeyed residential building in Berhampur's Mayuree Vihar valued at around Rs 1 crore, a three-BHK flat in Evos Exotica apartment in Bhubaneswar's Saheed Nagar worth over Rs 1 crore, a two-BHK flat at Spectrum Royale in Berhampur's Dharma Nagar valued at around Rs 50 lakh, 11 plots in Berhampur and its adjoining areas estimated to be worth Rs 2 crore, bank and insurance deposits amounting to around Rs 30 lakh, two two-wheelers and household articles worth over Rs 16 lakh. A case was registered against the engineer under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 following which he was arrested. 'Further investigation is underway to trace more undisclosed assets and determine the full extent of the financial irregularities,' said Vigilance officials.

Delhi Police Special Cell arrests head constable for stealing Rs 51 lakh cash, jewellery
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested Head Constable Khurshid for stealing approximately Rs 51 lakh in cash and valuable jewellery from their Maalkhana at Lodhi Road, while separately, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force apprehended a Nigerian national with 282 grams of cocaine in Tilak Nagar. The theft at the Special Cell's Maalkhana was discovered when Khurshid, who was recently transferred to East Delhi after being previously posted at the Maalkhana, escaped with the stolen items on Friday night. The Maalkhana in-charge quickly detected the theft, and authorities identified Khurshid through CCTV footage. The Special Cell team acted swiftly and arrested him on Saturday.
